My father, two uncles and my son served in the USAF. My son is still currently serving. My Dad made me go to College. Thank you for your recognition and appreciation for their commitment and all others that did the same. God bless our country!🇺🇸
First off...thank you so much for the shout out! We really do have a great community of builders on here and I absolutely love watching your videos! We have maybe 2 feet of snow now and the lowest temp so far this season was -17f earlier this week....I will take the snow over the cold though hahahahh. Now....if you want to catch some salmon in the summer, give me a shout.....I am a 5 minute walk from the Kenai River and late July is epic sockeye catching!!!...and it's warmer! Again, thanks man...oh! If the cabin will be dark I would go with a natural finish ro highlight the wood!
US NAVY here 1970--1976 EM 2 ,29 + years American Legion ,lots of learning for a young person fresh out of high school. Thanks to everyone that has served our great Nation.
Hate to say it, but stain that door flat black to match the windows and to "hide" the black weather stripping. You'll have the inside to stain to match or accentuate the color of the wood inside!
My Uncle, my cousin (Uncle's son), my brother, 2 husbands and my son. Uncle & cousin are deceased, but x-husbands and son are veterans from the Navy - USS New Jersey, USS Ranger, USS Enterprise, USS Shiloh, USS Chandler and USS Carl Vinson. They thank you for thanking them for their service! ♥
If you are painting the cabin black, definitely stain the door a pretty wood color. I liked the color you choose for the deck. I know the stain company isn’t sponsoring the deck but you can find any color close to that👍🏻 The door looks gorgeous❤
For ripping small strips like this with a circular saw you can buy a cheap device called a "circular saw rip fence", your saw might even have come with one and it's sitting next to the instruction manual in a drawer right now, or you can just use a clamp and piece of angle.
i made a countertop for my pantry with red oak....I mixed Jacobean and Ebony stain and love the dark color it made the counter. Then I sealed it with Waterlox (Food grade, but easy to sand and reapply to small areas if there's a scuff or blemish). 6 years and it still looks great.
I am planning on building a box truck mini home in the next 2 years and going to document the build on youtube, will definitly be a first for me on both parts but will be alot of fun, going to take my son on an across canada and then across the Us when he is done high school, I should bring down some good 'ole Molson Canadian and have a BBQ party on the deck
Hi, i never see anyone install a door without a door frame. In Europe we use adjustable screws installed in the frame so you can adjust the frames for door and windows when ever you need it. The frames hang on the adjustable screws. Never use spray foam bec it could put pressure on the frame so you can not adjust, use soft insulation. Normal is to install front door going out and door inside going in to the room. The job you did looks great.
My thoughts are stain door black BUT, stain/paint the trim around door and windows a red cedar and then rest of house black also...would look sharp. Have a great blessed rest of the week!
Ridh Burgundy ish Brown Door, and use similar color for the area under and inward of the seal , around the door, the area inward of the seal needs to be painted to resist moisture and Rot.
I just realized that the first thing you will see when exiting your cabin door is the Dukie Den! hmmm... Oh and I spent 24 years serving in the US Navy
Hope you feel better soon bro. Being sovk sucks. Woke up this morning with a random coughing spell that i slowly seem to have gotten out of throughout the day. Must the changing weather. Everytime i see someone with a bad cough, i take a moment to reflect how nice it is to not be sick at that moment. Cuz im sick way too often. Get well.
Most of China's Douglas Fir comes from Russia. It used to come from the Pacific Northwest of The USA but not so much anymore. Washington, Oregon, and Alaska exported a lot to China in the 80s and 90s. British Columbia continues to export raw logs to China. You did an excellent job of installing that Chinese made Doug Fir door. You can always put a steel plate on the bottom 18 " to prevent animal damage.
This is a lot of work! I was expecting modification of a pre-hung door! Wild that things made in China, i noticed the pre-primed 1x pine trim I buy is usually made in China too.
That door looks fantastic! I’m reading that a gel stain is best for an exterior Douglas fir door but I’ve got no experience with it. A nice dark hickory stain would rock that door imo. Either way, it will look great. 👊🏻 We just had remembrance day in Canada as well. My grand dad was a veteran of both world wars, dad was a Korean War vet, and I have lots of servicemen in the family. No more important day on the calendar than Nov 11th.
Love the solid wood door but installing it without and actual door box isn't recommended. Personally I would install a 32 inch door with the box. Leaves you plenty of room for adjustment as well as spray foam insulation.
Okay just checking I seen a lot of things going around from Spotsylvania County working up north working down south I see a lot you do what you got to do
Curious as to why you didn't just remove one of the 2x4's from one side of the door frame to give you a little room for casing etc... Regardless it turned out awesome!
Doors: I'm going to move my front door, whoever designed this is probably dead and gone but I'd like to tell them they did a 'crappy' job... literally! I live in 750 square feet, 2 bedroom, one bathroom and I've had guests walk in the front door for the first time and say, "Wait, is that your bathroom???" TRUE!!! My bathroom door is lined up exactly with the front door, so you could sit on the 💩'er and wave at folks as they drive by a mere 55' away. So, I'm going to move the front door, and that is something I've never done... so get busy, I'm taking notes! LOL!!!
Multiple Generations from the War for Independence to active service 5 years ago family member... although i have never served every generation in my family has had at least 1 member active. My brother and daughter have been the most recent.🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
His earlier video stated that he had made the opening too small and for this reason and the strength to support the beam precluded the use of a smaller prehung.
You will regret not sealing the door, from behind the hinges, to every live edge. Please make it a habit to cover your mouth every time you hack -up whatever whatever is in your lungs. 😂

Still serving in the army of your homeland, keep up the good work and keep on dancing

You're a true carpenter when you can successfully hang a door!! But you were clearly already there. You toy with us by acting new at it :)
❤️❤️❤️
Ps... Sean in Alaska is a great RUclips friend!! 😎👍 I'm sure he'll appreciate the nod, he loves your channel too
Great job on the door. The black trim matches the window trim. Love to watch you work.........
Two Friday posts in a row! Don't have to wait until Saturday morning for my Woodness Goodness fix. Love it!
US NAVY here 1970--1976 EM 2 ,29 + years American Legion ,lots of learning for a young person fresh out of high school.

Thank YOU for serving!

Hearing the introductory music, I thought there would be a "River Dance" on the wooden deck, featuring the Lord of the Build.
I think it may have been dedicated to @SeanInAlaska, based on his heritage. Just a guess though.
Don’t tempt me

I watch Sean in Alaska. I live in anchorage so it’s cool to see people around me on RUclips. The door looks beautiful. Nice work!

it's a cross and bible door...cross above, open book below. A classic!
Outstanding job on the door Graeme !!!!! Never doubt yourself you are doing a good job 👍
You flew on the door like a magic carpet ride😂 SHAZAM!!!

Your intro shots are the best. That is all.
Love that new music along with the good old one. Sounds like you have a nasty cold. Take care of yourself.
Boooya! Just raw dogging those cuts on the door with no edge guide. You animal! THE DR IS IN!
My thoughts are stain door black BUT, stain/paint the trim around door and windows a red cedar and then rest of house black also...would look sharp.
Have a great blessed rest of the week!
Irish music..... nice!
IMHO, nothing looks better against black siding than a door painted red.
Ridh Burgundy ish Brown Door, and use similar color for the area under and inward of the seal , around the door, the area inward of the seal needs to be painted to resist moisture and Rot.
I wish someone mentioned the term "prehung door" earlier. Nice work, Mon Capitan.
I just realized that the first thing you will see when exiting your cabin door is the Dukie Den! hmmm... Oh and I spent 24 years serving in the US Navy
It’s a work of art!
That’s a nice looking door ❤. I’m thinking another color other than black for the door color…but, black would look really nice too.
Hope you feel better soon bro. Being sovk sucks. Woke up this morning with a random coughing spell that i slowly seem to have gotten out of throughout the day. Must the changing weather. 'Lest We Forget' 'We Will Remember Them'
Excellent choice of tunes!!!
Take care of yourself Please !!!!🥑🥃🥃🙏🇨🇦
Nice job on the door. Looks great.
Insert very dark rich brown non-prehung door here. I would match the window frames. :-)

Haha, I’d recommended the backwards hole saw way back on the cedar shakes of the first cabin! 👏
You! You are forever in my mind. Thank you!!! ❤️❤️❤️
"Wang jangle" is now immediately one of my favorite phrases.
You need to watch Wild Woman Off-grid, also. Sean in Alaska is awesome 👍. Very nice door 🥰. Oak stain would be nice.
Parabens ficou excelente, obrigada por compartilhar até o próximo video
Door looks great!
Let the goodness of the woodness shine through. Cherrywood stain or cedar.
I say if your going with a lot of black siding use Varathane dark walnut on the door to soften the look 😉🫶🏻
This is a lot of work! I was expecting modification of a pre-hung door! Wild that things made in China, i noticed the pre-primed 1x pine trim I buy is usually made in China too.
Almost ready for sleepover time!!!
Router easier than circ saw for hinge mortising
Yea I totally forgot it!
Be sure to seal top and bottom of door as well.
Awesome work on the door.
Super great save and fantastic job dude!
Great job!
Graham, just a note to suggest a lever knob for the door might be easy bear entry..
Dark red door! 🏠
Black paint /stain on the siding, redwood colored trim, and door, the deck color.
Beautiful work sir! Lovin' the cabin!
You can do it.
I already watch Sean in Alaska... Gettin off grid~ great channel
❤️❤️❤️
Fur Wood Turns Dark With Age So Just Clear Coat With Marine Spar Varnish

Gonna be blasphemy, but I'm going with bright f'n yellow paint!
If your going a dark colour for the rest of the cabin then offset that with light coloured stain for the door and trims.
Thanks from Israel ❤
❤️❤️❤️🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
@WoodnessGoodness You are the best 🤗🔥
Good work! Love what you do!
I served, so you're welcome 🎉
❤️❤️❤️
Good afternoon 🖐😎👍
Great job by the way man!
4:03 "I got the black lung"
Graeme, you've only been working on that door for a day...
Looking sick 👏
Got to quit the weed before carrying a door up hill!!
Wow you must be from Northern Virginia with your door thoughts God damn it's funny
Hahaha not from NOVA
Okay just checking I seen a lot of things going around from Spotsylvania County working up north working down south I see a lot you do what you got to do
A dark burgundy for the door
In America a RED door means paid for property❤
Let's GOOOOOOO
Antique yellow for the door........
Looks real good, beauty job eh :)
Thanks, man! 🙏🏼🙏🏼

Are you going to put a dead bolt on the door?
🤝
Door color should be chosen by,,, Bob or your Daughter :)
😂😂
❤
never seen someone install a door without jams around it
why not buy a pre-hung door
His earlier video stated that he had made the opening too small and for this reason and the strength to support the beam precluded the use of a smaller prehung.
What he said! Haha
Leave that sucker more of a natural tone!
Crazy..😂😂😂
no black
Loving the content. Loving the shoutouts. @SeanInAlaska You guys are all doing great stuff. Thanks for sharing your journey every week. ❤
Deep rich red it means welcome
