When you burn coal you get carbon monoxide not carbon dioxide. The monoxide is the more poisonous gas of the two.
you didn't do a GCSE in chemistry?
you only get carbon monoxide if there is insufficient oxygen. if the there is enough you ay get a small amount but it will be primarily carbon dioxide.
