- In part 4 of the Epic fly rod build I wrap the guides on to the blank using silk thread, pale yellow and goldenrod with black tipping. I apply the first coat of finish over the threads to achieve a clear, transparent effect. Thank you for watching and subscribing.

Great video, I’ve read a few books but it’s nice to see someone do the wraps and confirm my technique.
Great work!! Can you share what kind and what thickness silk you use? I really struggle with transparent wraps. Thanks in advance.
Awesome thanks for sharing. How do you, or how do others do the small black line, or black single wrap in the middle of the clear silk thread?
That's a great question and thanks for asking. On those clear silk thread wraps, it's done by coloring a section of the thread with india ink. It will stay that color while the rest of the wrap goes transparent when applying the finish. I hope that helps.
Hello watching all the videos, did you add 1cc of alcohol to the epoxy? If so and why...do you do this to all your epoxy wraps..Roy
Roy, only with silk wraps when I am going for a transparent result...and only with the initial coat. Transparent silk wraps requires thorough saturation. The alcohol thins the epoxy enough to do that.
@@waywardangler8318 thank you for that...
Nice presentation. Suggest you look at my book for making a "continuous" wrap instead of 2 separate thread wraps. It is a lot easier and you will have fewer "tags" to deal with. L. A. Garcia, author, "Handcrafting a Graphite Fly Rod".
