    I have built and epic 580 in olive for my sons first birthday. I cannot wait for the day I watch him cast his rod. I dream we spend many trips and share many memories flyfishing. I wish he learns that we flyfish not for the fish only, but for the bond of father and son.

    After wanting to build my own rods for a very long time now, a lot of videos give instructions but are very overwhelming. This video just gave me the confidence to build my own!

    Need to pack the thread every few wraps so the wraps have virtually no space in between them. Why not use fast dry spar urethane to secure guides?

    Why is the reel seat in this video not available anymore? I saw the kits with a plain old round reel seat.

    Nice master class!
    What do you use as a thiner for the first coat?
    Thanks.

    Turned out well... aren’t you supposed to not wipe on the first coat of finish and instead dab the finish on? Did you get many shiners from brushing it on like that?

      No, this is the way we do it always

    How long does the whole process take? Can it be knocked out in a day? Less?

      Given that time needs to be allowed for epoxy and finish to dry no - 24 hrs at least. There's around 6 - 8 hrs involved in building a fly rod with our kits

      I'm going to use the same epoxy on my 1st Rod what is the mixture of Resin/Hardener and alcohol to thin is down. Thanks

    Why do you build on the spine? For casting, or fighting the fish? I understand building a golf club on the spine because you hit the ball on the swing plane every time. Fighting a fish is never in the same plane 2x’s so it doesn’t make sense to me. Why not build on the straightest axis?

    • @epicflyfish
      @epicflyfish  3 года назад +1

      We don’t actually recommend spining a fly rod, we build for straight

    Did I see a 3rd part added to the first batch of epoxy?

  • @Honkus

    Did you use the same epoxy for tip-top as the reel seat and cork?

    • @epicflyfish
      @epicflyfish  5 лет назад +1

      No, hot melt glue is used to tip tops to enable easy replacement
