This game was played 1 week after the suicide massacre, terrorism in Jonestown, Guyana. An atrocity committed by brain damaged cult leader Jim Jones against 900 people including children. An Alameda county congressman by the name of Leo Ryan was also shot and murdered by the alter boys with assault rifles. San Francisco mayor George Moscone and city supervisor Harvey Milk were shot by demented former San Francisco supervisor Dan White, the day this game was played. Was only a little kid but remember well.

White served 5 years for his crimes then a year and a half after he was released he killed himself.

+@@JahNuhThunDeeTheOneAndOnly Correct. Kinda like Doomsday Cult Shik Anrikio Tokyo, poison gas in Tokyo Subway 1995. Deranged Cult leader Asahara. Of course deranged Psyco David Koresh, Waco Texas. 51 days to come out with his hands up. Like battling Al Queda or Hezbollah. Thought he was going to take on 101st Airborne and win. Madman! So other madman Timothy McVeigh blows up 168 Americans. Turner Diaries. Race War.

Bull!.....as in 49ers QB Scott Bull. The 49ers were no where near greatness in 1978. San Francisco's next coach was working 30 miles south of Candlestick that year

Bill Walsh himself had 3 losing seasons his first 4 in San Fran. But won it all that 1 winning season.

Crazy to see how the NFL used to have white players.

Not only that, but your heaviest offensive lineman usually weighed around 285 lbs. and at around 6’ 3”…. that was considered a HUGE offensive lineman in those days. Pittsburgh’s average weight at this time was around 265 to 270 lbs
But today, a tackle at 6’ 6” and weighing 320… that’s so run of the mill
Also, today’s offensive lineman… if anyone, usually only the center and maybe 1 or both guards wear a number in the 50s range. Back in those days… it wasn’t uncommon to see tackles wearing a number in the 50s. the Steelers had a tackle that was either number 54 or 55

@@classicsports5057 ok thnx I had seen a few games of 49ers and used to look up the stats . O.J. actually had a few productive games his last year. I didn't check the box score on this one but didn't notice him in the game. My initial year being an NFL fan was 1978 I was 9 Yrs old . I was a Steelers fan and dad was a Cowboy Fan. Lynn Swann was my First Favorite Player. Steelers & Cowboys went Super Bowl and Beat the Cowboys. Was awesome..Steelers Won the Next Yr vs Rams. My favorite Baseball Team was Pittsburgh Pirates and they Won the World Series "We are Family" Willie Stargell Etc. What a Way to Become a Sports Fan. Spoiled Rotten. I've seen most all the 1978: Steelers Games available. But I'm a Big Fan of anything 1975-83. Payton, Wes Chandler, Air Coryell, Early Montana, Cowboys Dorsett Years, Earl Campbell Early Yrs. Baseball 1977-85. It's all good. You've always been a "1ST BALLOT YOU TUBE HOF FOOTBALL CHANNEL." THNX FOR RESPONDING
