  • In this episode, we start our second batch of steel in the cementation furnaces, and then we get down to business! These chisels aren't going to wear themselves down to nubs, and I have a feeling our foundry can help with that! The foundry needs a wall, some greenery, and an interior, so let's get to it!

    The great thing about games with small communities is just how much soul they have compared to larger brands, and how much more personal related channels and content creators feel. It's a real nostalgia trip to the old days of RUclips.

    Interesting take on the lore.
    Personally, my working theory is that we're dealing with the aftermath of a medieval, alchemy-based AI project gone wrong, that messed with the flow of time and caused the rot or rather, the rust, by weakening the barrier between our world and the rust world.
    But then again, you've probably read more lore than I have.

    I got into gardening in the summer of 2021 and even though ive enjoyed growing things for years, it never became serious until now. I then joined some FB groups that trade seeds and now I am coming up on 1000 varieties of seed. I've traded with 13 countries and almost 2/3rds of the US states. I guess you could say I love what I do.

    I watch these videos between working, since my broke artist ass was working from home before it was cool. I want to say that this playthrough is exactly my kind of thing, and I'm glad I found it. I'm so used to either hyper-energetic creators appealing to young audiences, or long-winded, meandering playthroughs without much structure, or which take too long to get to the point. I subbed when I realized you make neither of those things, but also, because you're a builder like I am, have the kind of deadpan sense of humor I appreciate, and are very easy to listen to. It's a shame the videos so far do not reach more than 200 likes.
    Edit: Also, you're just a really interesting person and it shocks me how often you randomly bring up something I know about that I assume is niche or forgotten, or at least something I'd never expect to hear come up in s series like this. (Ex: a Steins;Gate reference, haha.)

    • @Kurazarrh
      @Kurazarrh  2 года назад +2

      :D Thank you for such a kind comment! I'm really glad you're enjoying my creations here on the channel.
      Your comment is also some great feedback on the way I designed the series--I explicitly wanted it to blend tutorial-style how-tos, as well as survival-oriented Let's Plays, and it sounds like I'm hitting the right notes. So, thanks for letting me know how I'm doing!
      As for bringing up niche/forgotten things... I'm like... really old. I think I lost count of the years after I turned 250 or so. ;P Nah but seriously, I grew up with a SNES and generally got at least one console of each generation (though usually only one console of each generation), so a lot of that stuff is just baked into my life at this point!

    • @MidoriMushrooms
      @MidoriMushrooms 2 года назад +1

      @@Kurazarrh Pretty sure by this point we're around the same generation tbh, though I grew up with PC gaming until the playstation so most of my early knowledge is like, H.E. games, point and click games like LOOM and Toren's Passage, a bunch of edutainment games, Chip's Challenge, and those tonka sandbox/activity games haha.
      But yes, I do enjoy this series a lot. Especially the fine chisel work that makes it apparent you care about authenticity. I can sort of imagine you get a lot of references for builds and the like, and I appreciate the attention to detail.

      @@Kurazarrh Yeah, it's a definite improvement! Not entirely perfect yet - I paid extra-special attention, and there were noticeably loud pops at 4:55, 11:50, 12:23, 14:20, 14:50, 15:54, and 15:57. But none of them as bad as in previous episodes, at least.
      I'm not a creator myself, I know nothing about how to do good audio recordings. But hopefully those timestamps will help in some way...?

    • @Kurazarrh
      @Kurazarrh  2 года назад

      @@streetwind. The reality is, my setup isn't entirely ideal, and without major changes to my life outside of Vintage Story, I probably won't be able to eliminate them entirely (and you'd be surprised how many creators with orders of magnitude more subscribers than me still have tons of pops in their audio). I have to record with a headset, which puts the microphone barely more than an inch away from my mouth. I've been through a few headsets, and the one I'm using now (Sennheiser PC37X) is currently the best balance I've found between comfort and recording quality, without breaking the bank on professional-quality gear.

    A quick lore-speculation regarding comparison with Steins Gate and so forth
    Have you seen the film Primer?
    If you haven't, then, you must cancel your appointments and see it. It is not only a low-budget film (under 1 mil, I do believe) that became something like a sleeper hit, it was also filmed in my home town of Dallas, Texas (My actual home town is in the suburbs of Dallas, to be specific, but, later on I did have an apartment directly in Dallas itself) But also, the film does really work as a science fiction piece, and it has this very "Microsoft-era, geeks-in-the-basement" aesthetic. What impresses me the most about it is how carefully the story is told, with admittedly way too much dialogue and not enough "dramatic telling." but, when you are dealing with time travel, you can get away with more talk, as, it's really hard to "demonstrate" time-travel related shenaniganry.
    I actually have not completed the visual novel Steins Gate (a game available to play), but I want to now that you mention it.
    I've seen Primer maybe 4 times, typically to show it to someone. And I am someone who almost never watches a movie more than one time.
    Anyway, so, check out Primer, especially if you like time travel stories. (p.s., it's around 10:50 where you talk about the game's lore)
