- The McLaughlin Group episode for Friday, June 8, 1990. (That's my guess on the date anyway, given the mention of Barbara Bush's birthday at the end of the show, which is on June 8th. And the channel that I watched the show on aired the program at 7:30pm on Fridays.) This is a bit of a boring episode, focused mainly on foreign policy. Jack Germond predicts at the end that Arkansas Governor Bill Clinton will have a "squeaker" being re-elected.

Really, you did not know about it? It was a great discussion show - long before SNL did a parody of it.
I didn't have cable TV as a kid and there's two shows I remember watching, the McLaughlin Group and Siskel and Ebert... they don't make them like that anymore

It's amazing they're essentially asking "what will we use our military for now that the cold war is ending?" and 2 months later we started the gulf war with Iraq.
Thank you for the upload! It's great to be able to go back and watch what politicos were talking about at this seminal turning point in history.

Around this time I used to watch this how with a next door neighbor. Every week she predicted Jack Germond was going to die any day of heart failure. He fooled her and lived another 23 years :-)

Saddam Hussein must have been watching, because he invaded Kuwait less than two months after this program, believing the US would not intervene. This led to American troops in Saudi Arabia, which was the primary reason Osama Bin Laden attacked the World Trade Center in 1993 and again in 2001. This idea that the cold war is over and the US can pull back internationally led directly to war in Iraq and ultimately 20 years of war in Afghanistan. And ironically, our disastrous pullout from Afghanistan signaled weakness to Putin and led directly to Russia's invasion of Ukraine. Foreign Policy has consequences and we have come Full circle.

even if you disagreed with them, the pundits Cliff, Barnes and others...they were intelligent and good speakers, communicative. and McLaughlin MADE THEM discuss the important and intelligent REAL issues of the days. That is NOT happening on CNN and Fox and MSNBC. Propganda, mocking, personal attacks, blatant lying, etc. BORING and predictable. AND THEN, the constant rants by Fox News and CNN and others.

I got to find the one where I don't even remember his name the commentator was on the McLaughlin group the first time and he was a skinny little guy with glasses I'll figure out his name anyway he gives his opinion about whatever the issue was and McLaughlin leans back and gives a long pause and says your schizophrenia is overshadowed only by your ineptitude and the dude loses his marbles I mean you can see him just defecate on camera it was the funniest thing I've ever seen I love that show
