This is EXACTLY what I needed to know about these places, thank you!
Glad it was helpful!
Great๐thank you for this video, brought back nostalgic memories
My pleasure ๐
Food: we visited restaurants in Zipolite that punched way above their weight for a small beach town. Last December, our dinner at Bacco was one of our best anywhere of 2019. When we were there, there was a mirador on the headland between the main beach and Playa del Amor. It had a restaurant that served drinks at happy hour -- spectacular. Also, the swimming at Playa del Amor was fantastic!
Thanks for sharing Dan
Great video! Answered all of my questions, thank you ๐
Great to hear!
Fav line..........We had front row seats to the nude parade:)
Full on spread eagle ... a slim female that was very flexible.
I used to hang out in zipolite back in the late 70's..wow it's so built up now!
Hello Palawan Curtis! Thank you for taking the time to share. We loved Zipolite. :-) Our RUclips channel grows when people like, comment, or subscribe. It is like you are giving us a pay raise every time! So we really appreciate your help!
Best, Dan
You got that right. I was there in the 70s as well.

There used to be a nice Hotel and restuarant at the end of Zipolite called Shambala a pretty big place I remember staying in Puerto Angel and visiting Zipolite back in the 80s nice place to rest and relax.
Yes. very slow pace. :-)
Hello guys, itโs Steve. Wanted to thank you for your videos, continued videos, and I found this one Rigers regarding Mazunte and Zipolite. Iโm sure itโs more expensive now but appreciate the baseline that you took three years ago.
Our pleasure!
That was a pretty cool VLOG ๐
Thanks ๐
Mazunte, Zipolite, and Puerto Angel in the state of Oaxaca are not overrun by tourists like the country's more famous beaches, so they are great places to have a more local experience while enjoying the sand and surf. Mazunte and Zipolite are known for their laid-back attitude and hippie spirit.
You are a genius travel techies. :-)
My plan is to retire in Mexico so I especially like your Mexico retire cheap videos. Though, all of your videos are jam packed with pertinent information. I can see myself living in a subtropical highland climate like Puebla or Oaxaca city and visiting Zipolite or Mazunte or Huatulco for a beach fix ๐ด
Awesome, thank you! We have a series of videos on each country even Mexico! here is the full catalog: ruclips.net/user/VagabondAwakeplaylists
Stayed at Hotel Gloria in spring of1979. Gloria's was the only "hotel" on the west headland of the beach -- actually just a collection of a few large huts. On the opposite eastern headland was a small 20 room hotel. On the beach were only two
small huts that sold beer and tacos --nothing else, just wild horses running up and down the beach
In 1979 beer was 3 pesos or 30 cents each. Made several saves in surf of swimmers in trouble in the two days I stayed.
Thank you for the wise thought Texas Yankee. Listen to Yankee, hist last sentence above. The undertow is very serious here. I couldn't have said it better myself. And thanks for taking the time to share. When you share here RUclips shows my video to more people and I get paid more. So by sharing here, you are paying me for my creative energy. So, thank you, :-) Dan
Was there in 1974, nice to see its still going on.... love OAXACA โฆ๏ธโฅ๏ธโฆ๏ธ๐ท๐ค
Sure is, We had a nice time.
1974? I'm sure you wouldn't recognize it now
Very interesting Dan. looks like a very cool place to visit but not for long term. I will be back in the States to visit family and friends in December for 2 weeks then back to Playa Del Carmen. I am Going to look closer at other options as I will now have the qualification as a dive guide too.
Sounds great! We are loving it here and we also love it there. Beaches are nicer there for sure. But it is much cheaper here. :-)
Great video, Dan. Thanks once again. I trust we will fly again, but the airlines are talking regional flights for the first part of next year. I hate to sound like an "Old Guy" but I would prefer going back to flights all over the planet. Peace
You have my vote Eric!
thanks for the vids. Recent subscriber.. Had to see this one. Visited zipolite in the early 90s.. don't remember seeing a naked person or smelling marijuana.. and.. WOW! has it changed. .. buildings and all. Used to be hammocks and nothing much else. Probably my part of the Pacific coastline - and for the feeling of vacation. But again. The Riviera Maya wasn't even a thing either back then.. I suspect you are correct about all the info on this place, and that makes me think I will NEED to visit the Malaysian and Philippino places in our recent list of top places. As that seemed to be an excellent update, from a connoisseur of the Asian options ๐
Thank you eyeam9key! Thanks for watching and commenting. :-) Dan
I like Zipolite. Maybe I'm a "closet" hippie:)
Me to. But I was less closet in my day. I rode a chopper to high school.
eric, Iam thinking on retiring there ( Zipolite) . is it hard to find a place to rent ? keep the cost down
@@billjones744 No clue Bill.......You can ask Dan & Qiang, they run this channel.
I think i found my new home!!!!! wow!! good one ...
The exploratory visit is the next step Marc. :-)
@@VagabondAwake Yep!! looks so chill and amazing ....thanks!!
Hi Dan; love your videos; thank you so much for all of your thoughtful shares with all of us.
I am currently looking at visiting Mexico for hopefully a few months, and have been most drawn to Mazunte, and Puerto Morelos, as I have almost no interest in the high tourist zones, and instead am looking more for quiet, meditation, the healing arts, etc...
Anyway, It looks like it's been a year since you guys were there, but I'm curious if you remember when visiting Mazunte, how noisy it was/is there, as well as Puerto Morelos. I ask because I tend to be very sensitive to noise, and specifically things like construction, electrical equipment used for landscaping, and heavy bass frequencies from music.
In any case, I would so appreciate your feedback on this whenever you have a moment.
And either way, I just liked and subscribed; thanks again, and all the best to you and Qiang; you are a really cute couple.
dmrgtwaves, In either Mazunte or nearby Zipolite, there are areas where there is music for much of the day. But if you get rent a scooter and get back into less populated areas, you should be okay. I would suggest the same with Puerto Morelos. The colonia side has some quiet areas but best to investigate before booking long term. Here is how we find cheap apartments all over the world now. Watch the video and read the text to get all of our tips:

@@VagabondAwake Thank you very much Dan, and I very much appreciate the prompt response as well. Will check out your suggestion.
And one last question, was your experience that it was safe to walk at night in both the Colonia side of Puerto Morelos, and also inland in Mazunte/Zipolite?
And just fyi, I would be alone.
Blessings man ๐โค
Hi Dan think I would spend alot of lazy days @ the beach sightseeing ๐๐๐

The second Zipolite youtube I have seen. Most appears about folks on land. What about sailboat cruisers. Do see vessels at anchor in the bays, lagoons and marinas? Thx.
We did not. Only fishing boats there. Nearest larger boats are in Huatulco.
Hi Dan and thanks for the video. I am going to visit Zipolite this month and would like to know what the name of your hotel was. Unfortunately, the link does not work. Thank you and keep up the great work. Be safe!

Booked myself for one week this month. Can't beat price and location. Thanks for the info, Dan.
You didnt mention the Mazunte Jazz Festival in November every year.
Dan I noticed that you said you have Irish ancestry. If you have an irish-born grandparent you can get Irish citizenship.
I know. My sister got an Irish passport and she workd in the EU now. :-) Thanks for sharing.
I love Zipolite, but I really hate that they paved it. It was much nicer when it was a sandy dirt road.
Hahahaha... that was cute, "... burn off private parts..."
lol.
You weren't able to pronounce the name Zee-po-LEE -tay correctly after being there for some time?
I spent new years eve 1980 with my then 12 yr old daughter on Zipolite. We consumed some cubensis stropharia and experienced a most memorable time . (magic schrooms)
Dan, I was confused about one of your statements. Were you saying to book a place for a few days, pay that regular AirBnb price and THEN for the FOLLOWING days you negotiate a better price?
Or were you saying book for a few days on AirBnB and somehow negotiate (not sure if that's even possible) even that EXISTING booking that is the initial few days?
Thanks!

Hi Iโm just curious Qiang Hui: May I ask how tall you are? Iโm 5โ9โ and you look like you might be a fellow tall chic!โบ๏ธโบ๏ธ
Youโre beautiful, whatever your height.๐โ๏ธ
Yes and yes. Qiang is 182 CM which is 5 foot 11.5 inches. :-)
Well Q, youโre a world class beauty, girl!!!! I know it probably comes across as geeky, but I just love learning about other tall women enjoying doing their thing in this world. There was a time in my youth when I was embarrassed of my height, and it became important (at that time) for me to find other tall women as roll models. Now I try to be that positive example for any younger girls who feel similarly today... so itโs great to find another positive example!
Must say that I did wonder whether youโve ever done any fashion modeling (runway maybe?), but I donโt want to wander too far outside the scope of the macro-conversation... admittedly, I was wondering whether you and I may have ever crossed paths in that world. โบ๏ธ
Anyway you guys rock, keep up the amazing content!
And maybe 1 day our paths will cross in our travels, since you guys seem to have the globe-trotting bug, same as I do!
Wishing you both love, light, health and success today and in future days to come!!๐โ๏ธ

So what happens when a natural disasters hit the place? I gauge that when planning to retire overseas...

You Appear To Have Rented An Auto While Staying There???? You Apparently Don't Get Much Sun. You Never Seem To Tan At All. You Mention Living Like A Local Alot But We Don't Get To See Much Of That In Your Videos These Days.

PLEASE learn how to say the town name correctly. It's so rude to keep saying it wrong in a video this long. You say it in numerous different ways, as if you don't even speak Spanish. If you stay in a place for a while enough to make a video, learn the language at least a BIT.

@@VagabondAwake I forgot to mention that your video was one of the most informative, but I hate to watch individuals acting as film stars while stealing the joy from the video itself. You are not alone as most or all of such you tube videos do, including documentaries on Nat.Geographic and Discovery Science TV channels. In my opinion, the best videos are when the commentator keeps his face behind the camera. However, there is no such thing on You Tube, so it seems.
