Joshua DeLap haha yeah it was really tough goin the first couple days. Im going to release a couple more videos that show when we finally got into the mac’s.
@SeaSpanker - great video. Any other Lake Tahoe honey hole recommendations on the lake when vertical jigging for Macks? We are looking to do the same in the Spring/Summer and would be departing out of the Keys which seemed to be where you left from.
There are two spots I usually go when im jigging; the opening of Emerald Bay (where this video was filmed) and a place called the “hump” I believe. The hump is about 1/4 mile north of the marina entrance. So if your coming out of the keys its off to the right. Its a huge underwater hump thats only about 80 feet deep as I remember. The macs hang out on all sides of it. If those spots dont workout just look for high points underwater, youll see the macs there.
Rick Lopez year round is good at Lake Tahoe it just depends what fish you really want to target. July into August is really good for the Kokanee salmon. The Mackinaw are good year round but they are just deeper in the warmer summer months (100-400ft) and you can top line troll for rainbows and browns year round. Best times of day are early in the morning (5 AM) until about 10-11AM after that the lake gets busy with boats and the bite shuts off. Late afternoon to sundown is pretty good but the morning is always best. I will be posting a couple more videos in the coming days covering deep water trolling for mackinaw. Additionally going out with one of the charter boats is a good way to learn as well.
Rick Lopez thanks, great time of year to be up there. If you have any more questions between now and then or find something out let me know. I’m still learning how to fish that lake myself haha
hektaah I honestly dont have a specific brand of jig that I use. I just look for 3-4 oz vertical jigs in a variety of shapes and colors. Some are kinda shaped like fish and some look like torpedoes and it doesn’t matter if it has a treble hook or a single hook or two single hooks. The jigs are designed for ocean fishing but happen to work well when the mackinaw are holding deep. Colors that work well in my experience are white, green, blue, and purple. I hope that helps.
That lake looks amazing!! I definitely wanted to see what you were pulling up on the first one Damnit! Glad you guys were all out together!!!
