  • Seasonally-themed songs and verses are a wonderful way for children to experience the rhythm of the year. In this week's "Sunday with Sarah," I share a few of my favorites for autumn. Enjoy!
Words to the songs and verses are posted below. Have your own favorites? Share them in the comments!
WAY UP HIGH IN THE APPLE TREE
Way up high in the apple tree
Two little apples smiled down at me.
I shook that tree just as hard as I could
And down came the apples, and "Mmm," they were good!
    JACK-O-LANTERN
    Jack-O-Lantern, Jack-O-Lantern
You are such a funny sight
As you sit there in my window
    Looking out at the night.
You were once a yellow pumpkin
    Growing on a sturdy vine
    Now you are my Jack-O-Lantern
    Let your golden light shine.
    LANTERN WALK SONG
I go with my bright little lantern,
My lantern is going with me.
In heaven the stars will be shining,
On earth shines my lantern for me.
The lights grow dim as we go in
    La-bimba-la-bomba-la-boom
The lights grow dim as we go in
    La-bimba-la-bomba-la-boom.
    MEAL TIME SONG
Blow winds blow, and go wheel go
That the miller may grind his corn
That the baker may take it and into bread bake it
And bring us a loaf in the morn, bring us a loaf in the morn.

I would love to have a song/verse video before each season. It's nice to have someone sing them aloud so you know how they are supposed to sound :) love your videos!

Five little pumpkins sitting on a hill
The first one said, "I feel winter's chill."
The second one said, "There are ghosties in the air."
The third one said, "Well, I don't care."
The fourth one said, "Let's have some fun!"
The fifth one said, "We will have a downhill run!"
Then WHOOSH went the wind and
    out went the light,
    then five little pumpkins
    went rolling out of sight!

Thanks for sharing, Rong Liu! I used to sing a very similar version of this that went:
Five little pumpkins sitting on a gate
First one said, "Oh my it's getting late."
Second one said, "There are witches in the air."
Third one said, "We don't care."
Fourth one said, "Let's run and run and run."
Fifth one said, "We're ready for some fun."
Ooo-ooh went the wind and out went the lights
And five little pumpkins rolled out of sight!

It's STUPID to talk about ghosts with kids or even teenagers so your song is utterly stupid.

I’m new to Steiner and I work in a mainstream Kindergarten/pre-school (4-5 year olds) in Australia, however I implement many Steiner practices within my work. It is nearly Summer here. I would love to hear some Summer verses I could do with my kinder kids 😊 I would love to watch videos with verses for each season. Would you make some more videos like this? I really enjoy watching them!

What are some ways in Waldorf you introduce or learn about the weather and seasons? I teacher Kindergarten and am looking to incorporate anything that will get my students more involved or engaged. Do you have anymore songs or specific books you would recommend? Thank you!
