    The biggest pain in the ass with "Entombed" is getting snagged on the corners when trying to maneuver the maze. Otherwise it's not a bad game. As an overall company I'd say that U.S. Games is closer to the top than the bottom as far as quality goes.

      @@TheLairdsLair I think I paid something like $2 for the cartridge from a "sale" barrel at a store. To be fair, considering how incredibly limited the system was and how difficult it was to program, I tip my hat to anyone who create any kind of reasonably complex game on it.

    I have all but the first game. I hold the World Record on "Space Jockey" Game 1 emulated difficulty B/X (Novice/B) at Lvl Up Score (MarkMSH) AND High Score (Mark) with 453,955 points. It took me hours! On actual hardware my high is 264, 455 points (placing me 2nd) at High Score with the same difficulty. Both runs I got tired of playing and gave up with maximum lives.

    I actually liked hide and seek. You had to mute the TV so your opponent (who left your living room so you could hide) wouldn't figure your room by the song. Hilarious side note: you can actually hide under the couch!😂 The songs (though slughtly annoying and repetitive) were actually good

    I played a lot of Commando Raid and Towering Inferno when I was a kid. They were among my favorites and I still play them both.
    My little sister was 3 or 4 at the time Sneak 'n' Peek came out. My parents bought it for her and the two of us had a lot of fun playing it together. These days not so much!

    I loved Gopher as a kid, but its premise always seemed to be too violent for me, haha. I didn’t want to bash gophers in the head, Ack! But it’s very well executed with good gameplay and a rich sense of pacing and tension.

    U.S. Games could be found at our local grocery store. They were cheap $, and what we considered "bad" Atari games. Most of these games made me feel sick. They game concepts were knock-off's of games already knocked off several times - or at least it seemed that way.
    Fast forward to today; I really like Raft Rider, Entombed, and Towering Inferno. The remaining U.S. Games, minus Space Jockey, are actually well made and quite fun! In 1983/84, in context with the time, they seemed awful.

    • @TheLairdsLair
      @TheLairdsLair  2 года назад +2

      Yeah, I think they are mostly good games actually, especially when compared to the likes of Apollo, Data Age and Mythicon who are also lumped in that same category. I am particularly fond of Commando Raid personally.

      @@TheLairdsLair Commando Raid could've been really good, had the collision detection been better. It's too difficult to shoot the Paratrooper's. Also, I wish the paddle controller was utilized instead of the joystick. The game graphics are quite nice!

    I have about four or five US Games for my Atari 2600 VCS and I still regularly play about two or three of them. The US Games video games are not either the best or the worst ever made, but they did sort of range in both directions in their quality of play mechanics.

    I grew up with the 2600 . And these are mostly just pre-video game crash which was when I was getting a weekly allowance for chores and had some birthday/Christmas money that I was decent at not blowing ( I noticed the sale tags on many) oddly I think I ever only saw Space Jockey ( good) Towering Inferno ( good, in a way) and Word Blaster ( a complete dud: atari 2600 sucked for anything remotely educational! I never saw the other titles, that I can remember.
