- Sitcom pilot produced by Jim Henson that never got picked up for a series for reasons that shall become increasingly apparent as you watch. Unsurprisingly, Richard Hunt's character is the highlight.

Wow I love seeing Hunt be a person playing around with his puppet while being involved in conversations. Such a wonderful bit! But yeah the overall writing of the show... aw.
"aw" as in adorable or "aw" as in awful?
Richard Hunt is really funny on camera. He did a couple of face cameos on Sesame Street that were hilarious. A shame he didn't do more face acting.
He was in Trading Places as Wilson, the buyer for the Dukes.
He died way too soon
I'm pretty bummed this didn't take off. Even just for one season. Richard Hunt was so great on camera, and Fred rocked. Too bad.
Richard Hunt was a riot in this! I still miss him...
Fred Newman was pretty good too!
Richard sure knew how to work the camera and just make people smile and laugh
@@mesquitegirl2013 You know Fred could easily have worked for the Muppets, his voice and humor fit in with them.
Fun Fact: Fred Newman and Steve Whitmire are from the same state (which is why they sound similar if you close your eyes)
The dragon puppets remind me a bit of the one you'd see on Eureeka's Castle/Wimzie's House, those look like something Jim Kroupa would make.
It's a shame this pilot didn't go off the ground. Richard Hunt looked like he was having a lot of fun with his role. Plus Fred Newman and his sound effects are a delight.
I wish Richard Hunt had done more on-screen acting, he has a very charming stage presence.
He had a small part in the movie Trading Places.
0:26 Burns was previously the head writer for the first season of The Muppet Show, and co-wrote The Muppet Movie with Jerry Juhl.
It's Dr. Liz from "Garfield & Friends!" She also did Lanolin in the "U.S. Acres/Orson's Farm" segments, too. RIP Richard Hunt.
love any hunt i can get.
I forgot to mention something in my last comment. That little dragon at the end of the show has got to be the CUTEST dragon I've ever seen!
this is a surprising turn for Jim. Nonetheless, it's a cute special and it's sad that no one got it.
I'm pretty sure I worked on this pilot when I was a studio engineer at ABC TV.
Frankly, I think that this show is a missed opportunity. There is so much untapped potential! Especially since Richard Hunt has been gone for nearly three decades, rest his soul...!
Richard sure loves working the camera :)
Those INSUFFERABLY cheerful '80s sitcom themes!!!
"hey Valentine, you two gonna built a wedding cake?"
Im pretty sure I worked on this pilot when I worked for ABC TV in Hollywood.
Wouldn't you be able to remember if you were involved in something this big?

Yes I Ride an Elevator XD
LOVE Butane, the lead dragon; Earl, Butane's goofy sidekick; AND CLYDE THE DRAGON
Fred Newman was so underrated
How in the world did no network pick this up? This is funny!
hey maybe we can make a petition of making puppetman into a full ledge series
How can we? Richard Hunt is dead!
@@yosefdemby8792 mayabe another puppeteer/actor
@@wk2172 David Rudman, perhaps? He inherited Scooter and Janice
What will it be like if this show was already picked up and became a timeless full-fledged sitcom? If so, the show would've run for more than 8 successful seasons.
Lol it’s the voice of Skeeter from Doug. HONK HONK! Imagine if this pilot actually got picked up and it ran for 8 seasons!!! I wish they still had these kinds of summer “dumping grounds” for unsold pilots. But since we have literally any show we want at our fingertips, we’re already entertained enough, especially during the summer when most shows are on hiatus.
Or until Richard Hunt’s death.
If this series ran for 8 seasons, do you think Richard Hunt's character would have been killed off or replaced by another actor?
@@wickedsistah4703 I’m not sure.
Question does Fred do anymore voice acting or is he retired from the business
@@mickys411 He does do anymore voice acting.
hopefully abc , nbc or cbs will make this piolt in to a tv seriers for 2020
I think it's still wonderful i just wish he could visit his family & friends
Ironically, this happened before that Katy Perry episode on Sesame Street.
What do you mean "increasingly apparent as you watch"? It seemed like an awesome idea. What ideas did you not like?
Probably because it's playing things way too safe with it's jokes and focus.
They had to pull a lot of strings to get this show in the air. Gotta hand it to em though
This should've been co-produced with Lorimar-Telepictures. Why? Every show produced by Lorimar/Warner Bros. from 1978-2003 always said "Executive in Charge of Casting Barbara Miller."
i would see all the puppet at the jim herson museum`s or seame place museum!!! more originals big bird and dragons seame street muppets puppets
I hope they clean this up and include it as a bonus in the 4th or 5th Muppet Show box set
That's never coming on DVD. It's available to watch on Disney plus.
Damn.
Dragontime might be real.
love it like dragon show!
