Pete, it was a different subject a year maybe a year & one half ago, but I saw your big 10” on the roll cart on a grinder. I new what it was but suggested a video on shrinking metal. I saw the guy who perhaps invented these in a video, but regardless, thanks for showing us as this repair was perfect for the tool. Glad to see adds running, I let them run all the way thru letting get some coin. I ordered the Astro Pneumatics Euro Pro HE with 1.3 mm tip and a 5/8”-11 stud extender for my buffer. I purchased a 3/16” stroke-stroke palm sander air powered for clear coat. I cannot thank you enough for trials, reviews, tips and techniques for doing it right. Unfortunately it’s 10 degrees high temp all week in a February in NE. Who’s a thunk it. Send Sammie up here to warm it up. Love the intro! Is Minnie learning well in her Catholicism classes? God bless both! Wrap your finger. You, I and other know, it ain’t the last time we’ll spring a leak and drip red stuff on the floor. I want to by a color SWRNC “Tee” shirt that is color in XXL for us big 6’3” guys. Get caught up onTetanus shot, flu shots, previnar 13, they need a booster. We all just want you around for a long long time! Thanks Pete

    Hi Pete
    Great channel with excellent tips.
With the shrinking disc you need the right spacer so that the thread does not protrude. You can then hold the disc flat on the panel . Will help the process much better.
    Cheers Eddie Ryan

You totally reminded me to get the contour tool. I'm working on practically the same car 1974 280C. The front passenger fender had rust rot from the headlight bezel back about 8". After cutting the rust off and getting all the fender glue out of the way, I welded in a patch I made using my home made anvil. I have the contour at Looks about right, but, I want it to be a perfect match. Other than that the rest of the car is in pretty great shape.

Been watching a lot of your videos. Good advice. I have a door that I am reskinning about 3/4 of it. It had about a .250 + bondo in the upper part of the door. I cut the rusted door skin about 2 inches below the body line. There is no damage on the upper part but the reason someone put that much bondo on was the door skin is radiused inward instead of outward and bondo the crap out of it to get the contour it should have. I can pull it out where is need to be but goes right back to its relaxed position. It's like it's been leaned against and the metal formed to a inward radius. Would shrinking this from inside the door panel cause the metal shrink and and hold the outward contour it should have? Hope this makes sense.

Alot of these guys that show you how to use a shrinking disc have these multi million dollar shops with every metal working tool known to man.. These type of guys laugh at you and me because we use bondo, and they think they're above us! I HATE PEOPLE like this that think they are better.. Use the Disc to your advantage weather you use bondo or not.. Thanks for watching.

Re that sharp edge. I've just bought some silicone U shaped edge protector It fits an edge 1mm to 2mm thick so ideal for this. On my application I will glue it on with Bondic which is UV cured. The UV light will shine through the clear silicone.

using a torch is for caved in metal not crowned metal.. Torch heat is for shrinking "oil canned area's" vs the shrinking disc is for shrinking high spots and crowns such as what you see here.. If you use a torch on this type of repair you will make things worse..

When I was restoring my AD truck, the side bed panels were really banged up. I tried straightening one side with a hammer and dolly, but I ended up stretching the metal like a balloon.
So I ended up using a torch, getting it red hot and then soaking it with water. And it actually work. But it was so much trouble to get it straight (a neighbor called the police on me, because of the noise from the pounding. And they lived across the street). I ended up buying a reproduction panel for the other side.
