Two errors worth noting are at 10:10, Tywan scores one point but gets two, going from 5-9 to 7-9, and at 43:43 the linesman called out and Tavo returned the ball anyway, but Tywan got a point for that bringing him from 22-21 to 23-21.

Didn't he also call 3-2 twice on tavo? A 3rd point. Also ball was clearly out a 1:57 I can't believe tavo didn't see it. Also at one point even tywan says "that was out?" On the same exact left line to line shot he hit a couple shots earlier. And this is just at the very start of the game. I don't even want to continue analyzing it's so hard to stomach. I didn't see Tywan get a bad call anywhere. It's insane.

They need separate scorekeepers like other sports because I seen it happen way too often so many videos Man. At one point the Ref says 6-9 and tywan says waht and then the ref says 7-9. I think table must have just been nervous and so it is game since this was an important match in his whole family say that he wasn't thinking about refereeing at the same time. I still feel players shouldn't have any say except appeals if handball wants to get as respected as other sports.

Crazy Tavo one of the most respected players. Plays with anyone and never cheats or argue idk if it was a ton of bad luck or favoritism but Tavo is kotc on my book.

This is why handballl has been a dead sport. Apparently the ref in his brother with two of the biggest cheetahs in Handball years ago, now he's the biggest ref. There really is no hope for the game it's been too corrupted for way too long. I stopped playing 20 years ago for these reasons and now I don't even think I can watch it on RUclips.
@@cooloutac I agree that the sport will not prosper as it is presently organized. If you see the events in Europe or other parts of the world, despite the divide in talent, they are organized in such a way that even someone who has never seen the sport before can see that it is efficiently and well run; NY handball needs help in this regard. Spectators too close to the players on either side, no redundancy with the score keeping, obvious side betting influencing officiating..etc...etc..etc... NY has the best players in the world but with this type of shoddy malfeasance there is no hope for quality sponsorship to take it to the next level. All of the cameras there and no one could show the footage (with the score counts) to the organizers to correct this blatant screw job. If they can't run it back perhaps Tywan could, at the very least, publicly acknowledge the discrepancies and perhaps split the purses as a good faith gesture. Either way this is just a bad look for the sport.
@@skilletsauce I think Tywan has turned into Timbo bro. For example when he lost the volley and the ref called a screen. Tywan was actually calling for a point arguing Tavo made a bad call. The one call Tywan made during the Pito game didn't sit well with me either when he tried to say Pito pushed his leg into the ball lol. Basically the guy is going to argue and cheat his way to a victory every time, if he acknowledges this was a rigged match by the refs it would be surprising to me. I can't blame him though, I mean arguing every call like a soccer player faking an injury is unfortunately part of the game. Its why I stopped playing 20 years ago. Part of the game Which Tavo did not even engage in the first 30 mins trying to be professional which I guess was naive. Only sport I know of where players and not refs even make calls. Thats the first problem right there. Only thing should be out of their mouth is a certain amount of appeals to the cameras.

Epic match but too many errors on calls. Something else that needs to be fixed, Tywan took too many breaks. Constantly going to "dry off" and then the fact that he took a big break to switch shirts while Tavo gains momentum to get to the 23rd point should be the biggest thing to take note of. Theres NO reason why Tywan, with no more time outs should be able to take that break and switch shirts. That's what time outs are for and he lets Tavo cool down and took momentum away. FIX THAT! Also, TOO many people walking on the court. The game should be respected more. Shout out to both champions who made it to the finals of the biggest stage in Handball.
@reign_tv it is no longer the biggest stage the number one tournament is the US Open. You ask any player which tournament they want to win they will tell you the 10k tournament. Even a "B" player will tell you that.

@cooloutac I arrived in time to watch the semi-finals and the final. I did not see them there. So I will assume they did not attend. I also do not think Migz attended cause I did not see him there.
That was some serious bullshit with that change of shirt Ty pulled after a wipe the previous play and a timeout before that "his last one"... He effectively created another timeout... The ref though likeable is horrible. Unless he told Tywan to change his shirt which I don't believe he did, he should've told him "where you going? Get back on the court especially as that was a pivotal moment where Tavo was gaining a more positive momentum as he gets dejected from blatant errors like many peeps... Is it possible that this referee does not realize he showed his hand, his favoritism while calling a championship game?
I'm boycotting handball until they play this game over with a different ref. Probably won't happen, so Peace. I suspect even less A players next year. Maybe it will be a half a day tournament lmao... Can't put this all on the ref though . Even the PHantom Screen ball call, Tywan looked at ref in his eyes and said "yes he called screen" agreeing to the play. maybe they were in cahoots lmao.

Ref also called 3-2 twice on tavo. And this is just the score keeping there like half a dozen other extremely controversial calls on out balls. At one point Taiwan misses and doesn't even hit the wall and Tavo goes to pick up the ball to serve but the ref calls him back and says no it's Tywans serve. At that point tavo told the ref if he wants Taiwan to win so bad he'll just leave but he couldn't do that in front of his family. I wouldn't even play in anymore tourneys if I was him.
@@andough9753 you know in accounting you are taught to put a dash through your 7's when handwriting them. Basically looks like a little t almost to differentiate between 1's, 5's, 2's etc. I've actually seen Henry do the same thing by accident but quickly correct himself. Believe I seen another ref do it too, confuse the 5s and 7s.
Argument is not valid. The referee’s scorecard has numbers on it every time a point is scored he crosses out the number the player has. Their is no actual numbers being written.

This sucks for everyone. Crazy that tavo kept such a calm attitude the entire time. Tywan is a champ too, but it sucks to see his kotc championship run tainted this way. Just make me sad for handball in general when these two guys give the game everything.
To see this time and time again extra points being awarded. (1)Tywan went from 5 to 7, (2) On 17-16 Tywan served, Tavo returned and Tywan missed a kill to which Tywan walks to the back and told by "the ref" do over?!?! (3) Linesman calls out at 22-21 Tywan serving to which Tavo returns and keeps the ball in play yet Tywan still gets awarded a point. Why wasn't this a do over? As humans we make mistakes but for it to happen on every Tywan serve...suspect! 🤔 Nonetheless great game from both players but much respect to Tavo. You were cheated my friend. If this is the best ref handball has at one of most biggest stage of handball...then dramatic players not getting calls isn't the only issue for this sport. SAD
The Organizer and his team fell short. Please prepare better, surround yourself with a better team. Currently you're leaving the door open for another organizer to knock KOTC out of being the #1 Mens Big Blue Handball Singles Tournament in the world.
He also called 3-2 twice on tavo and also gave a point to tywan around 17. Every line ball went in favor of Tywan and against Tavo too. Ref even overuled two llinesman at one point in the game to favor Tyan its crazy.
What about the call Tavo stopped because it skipped on his serve??? Tavo had a shot there and legit tried to stop the play bc of a skip LMAO.
@@chrisc1184 were you not watching the USHA tournament? Apparently skipped balls are a big deal and they were being called left and right. But you can't blame Tavo for trying to get a call any way he can after dozens going against him and him staying silent and professional for the first 30 mins. After the ref waited to see the outcome of the volley before calling a screen ball on Tywans serve I would of walked off the court. Especially since the ref told Tavo earlier he isn't making calls and only the players will. wow.

But what Tywan was actually trying to say is that Tavo called a screen when there was no screen and I guess arguing for point instead of a do over. Can you imagine if he got that call? lol. Larry tells Tywan I'll say it again it wasn't a bad call. But it would of been a bad call if Tavo actually said something but he didn't. Regardless it shouldn't have even been a do over. This the last kotc game I watch, thats for sure.

What everyone is trying to figure out is how was Tywan awarded point #23 when Tavo kept the ball in play that was falsely called out by line ref??? Why wasn't that a take 2 and a point was awarded to Tywan? 🤔 that was CRITICAL.

Tywan played really sharp, he left very little room for error from Tavo. The sportsmanship and overall effort of both players was impecable. They exemplify what handball could be when individuals bring a holistic A-game to the table. However, the mishandling of this call and oversight, falls on the organizer Mr Dwight, unfortunately him and his team's knowledge and enforcement of handball rules were sadly executed. With the stakes being so high, it would have been imperative that at least a few preemptive measures would have been in place to avoid something like this. Unfortunately, aspects of this tournament left a lot to be desired. When the best individuals ( the players) work hard all year to come out and compete, it's only fair that you get the best and strongest organizers to match the effort of the players. In this case, KOTC 2023 fell short of the mark. Better luck next year. Mr Dwight I hope that you can incorporate a stronger team effort or perhaps partner with another entity or pass the torch to someone who can execute a more cohesive vision on game day. Congratulations to Tywan, you beat the best to earn your first KOTC. Big respect to Tavo for his overall professionalism in representing himself, NYC and the Big Blue Handball community.
I can count a handful of calls like this in the game. We just trying to figure out how the ref was so obviously biased but it's acceptable by that community. I refuse to believe he was just makon mistakes more like he was making money.
I think you can hear Larry say "you hit the ball out" just after 45:23, even Tywan mouths it. So for some reason after Larry overrules the line ref, it wasn't a dead play but that the ball Tavo put back on the wall was out. In all that confusion, Tavo probably forgot he put the ball back good and didn't appeal/argue it more.
I don't think I've ever seen a ref/line ref make a call and for it to not be an automatic dead play regardless of it being right or wrong.

Yeah, the tournament directors should do an investigation and see that critical errors were made by ref that decidedly changed the outcome of the game. Maybe reset it to 23-23 or any other points and toss a coin so a legitimate and indisputable champion can be crowned.
You know what I use to hate about handball players in pickup games. They never keep score because they want to be able to argue about it. Thats what I love about that guy Rookie though. He keep score no matter who is playing. They should get him to be official scorekeeper of these tournaments for the favs or finals next year lmao.
Good idea to have a secondary score keeper. Officiating and getting the calls right is a big responsibility. Having a separate score keeper could help eliminate shady shit from happening.

He was also the better cheater. I'm gonna say what nobody else wants to say. We saw it start when he tried to say Pito pushed his leg into the ball with his arm. But I was shocked when he looked right in the refs eyes when the ref says "He called a screen" and Tywan says "Yes he called a screen" before taking the ball to server That phantom screen ball call after the volley Tywan lost to Tavo shocked me. But we can't blame everything on the ref. In fact it was Tywan who asked for that free 7th point. Lets call it for what it is guys. From what I hear the ref is biased against Tavo and Tavo didn't show up last year cause of it? Maybe the kid was making a statement because I found it weird from first couple points where he returned a volley way outside almost half a foot off the line and said nothing.
@@cooloutac I just took the time to go back and review the scoring, play by play, Yes, I saw it now, that's horrible score keeping. Only Tywan knows in his heart if he knew that larry gave him that extra point. I know that as a player it was rare that I wasn't locked into the score at every moment of a game. From the last 8 years that I've been watching Tywan, he's usually played with honor and professionalism. Like I said, only he knows the truth. It was a closely contested match. I really wanted Tavo to win, I think he worked hard enough to earn that Championship. He was robbed of at least the opportunity to possibly get to serve with point game. Tavo would have still needed to take the game from Tywan, who obviously was on his game. Sucks that the officiating and that the organizer couldn't put safe guards in place to minimize BS like this from happening. This might sound crazy but if I were there on Sunday I might have jumped in and intervened and confronted Dwight and Larry, to demand they conference to discuss that call. It clearly should have been a take 2 on that infamous point that was awarded to Tywan. I'm wondering, was Dwight sitting besides Larry ?

Tywan has only literally turned into timbo the end of last year from what I been seeing or maybe just this season. He wasn't like this at all arguing every single call and clearly full of it. I thought the guy would be the face of the sport and quite the story. Something must of struck a nerve in him and he said fk it. Because lets face it we can't blame him its part of the game. The fact they want the players to make calls and don't want them to appeal to cameras opens it all up and this has been going on for 30 years. Although not everyone is like that obviously Tavo was making a point not calling anything for the first 30 mins no matter how ridiculous. BUt what happens is then players break and start desperately calling stuff they can't even argue. I see it time and time again.

Those bad calls possibly decided the game but you gotta keep score when you are playing and use rules to your advantage. Sportmanship is out the window when you feel the game isn't being called in a fair way

Honestly speaking this was a great game by both men tywan and tavo but there was alot of favoritism and bad calls in this tournament that shouldn't not happened but I noticed something about both players game tavo has 2 great hands but he has an flaw that he has to work on and that's stop hitting the ball back to his opponent's and his mental game I've noticed he can have the league in points but as soon as someone makes a bad call or someone says anything of his game it throws him off his game sometimes he plays too safe and honestly speaking him with 2 great hands should just let it all out its like a boxing fight if you have power and speed in both hands why not let them fly but in all sports in life it's about the mental game how strong is there mental game will determine the outcome but Tywan also has a great game but I noticed when he does the angle serve no1 never thinks about hitting a straight line shot back to them but they hit the ball always back to him and what's gonna happen is tywan is gonna smoke that ball but I hardly see anyone lob the ball high to his left nor hit the ball hard straight to his left maybe something to think about but great game by both men congratulations to tywan and tavo cause they both were winners I can see honestly speaking the top players in the near future being tywan tavo and kadeem the rest have great games but they don't have that killer instinct nor hunger but that's my point of view but pray everyone got home safe and god bless them all 🙏

Larry I would like to apologize for my earlier comment about me thinking there was favoritism in this game. The mistakes you made were severe. I saw your interview with Tensfinest and you explained yourself. We all humans and yes we al make mistakes and sometimes we make 2 or 3 mistakes...in the same game. Highly unlikely and looked like it was always against Tavo....but....it is possible that the mistakes jist happened to be against Tavo. Couldve easily been against Tywan. I do believe you are honest specially after the interview/explanation. Again I retract my earlier comment. I dont hide behind my comments, if I see you I will approach you to personally apologize again.

Damn bro you do realize people are not dumb right? And that they can go watch the video for themselves? The ref literally gave Taiwan extra points on three occasions. And almost every line ball was ruled in favor of Taiwan. At one point Taiwan misses the wall and Tavo gets up to serve but the ref calls him back and says it's Taiwan serve. If his family wasn't there he probably would have just walked off the court at that point.

@jackwoods9604 both players did not that's the point I finally thought tsvo was going to get a call on an out ball towards end. A ball that literally dropped right in front of the linesman's face which he called out. Then Taiwan appealed it and after minutes of stalling the ref overrule two linesman on favor of tywan. At one point Taiwan misses the wall and Tavo gets up to serve but the ref calls and back and says it was a screen lmao. I mean were you keeping score during the game because the refs giving at least an extra three points to tywan. I mean I could go on and on. You're a joke just like this dead ghetto sport that's gonna stay in the sums with the trash where it belongs. The last game I watch on RUclips that's for sure. The ref got paid.
The ref clearly favored Tywan the entire game, that was disgusting. I'm fairly sure the ref had side bets on this game because that's exactly what it looked like. This one of the many reasons why handball will never make it to the big screen.

This was the most obviously fraudulent call out of like a dozen during the match just as bad. I thought handball was bad 20 years ago when It was ten times more popular but this was the most corrupt game I ever saw. It's so disgusting I can't support it anymore on RUclips.
@cooloutac Bunch of bad calls against both, most seemed to go against Tavo. Not sure why the head ref was making final ruling on all calls, the lines people who had a better angle should make the call.
@johnnyace2352 I didn't see a bunch of against Taiwan at all. Just a ball that was called under. Compared to every line bull going agains Tavo and Taiwan getting an extra three points. At one point Taiwan misses the the wall tavo gets up to serve while Taiwan goes to the back line but the ref tells them to go back it was a screen ball, after they volleyed. Everybody can watch this video and there's no way you can spin it as if both sides got bad calls man.

I'll wait. And this was 30mins in after tavo was already throwing in the towel and started complaining. I don't know of any other sport where the actual players make calls. And now that I think about it that's interesting because tavo did mention that to the ref but the ref says I'm not making any calls you have to make the calls. But then the ref made a screen ball call against Taiwan to take away a serve from Tavo, after they volleyed. Insane.

What was prize money this year?
I believe the top prize was 4k but do not quote me on that. The Winter Classic hosted by the same promoters had a 2k top prize. I just do not know how much they were able to pay out because of the lower turn out.
