He’s the first and greatest superhero that started it all.

Very true, but in some ways not true. In the mid 30s before Superman's appearance (1938), there was Lee Falk's 'The Phantom.' He wore a purple spandex suit and hood, carried pistols, had a dog named Devil, and fought bad guys in the jungle! So he was really the one that started it all. That, and ancient mythology of gods and goddesses.

I was born in 1991 and I grew up watching this on VHS. It is a timeless show and I think that playing the Mega Drive game that came out in the 90's which went for a similar vibe all be with FM synthesis, watching Superman II and getting the Superman figurine happy meal just made Superman this character who is hard not to love. This is coming from a guy who grew up preferring Batman and I still do prefer Batman which is just a personal thing over a quality thing, but both Batman and Superman are amazing and were a big part of my childhood.

@T1122 Retcons weren't always a bad thing. They were meant to reveal some new information that wasn't originally revealed when the event took place. With situations like Superman's powers, however, I think the reason is because of the influence of media. In the original comics, Krypron was originally a Flash Gordon fever dream before 1978. After "Superman: The Movie" hit theaters, Krypron now mostly feels cold, and looks like the inside of a crystal. They even changed the look of Superman himself to look more like Christopher Reeve.

I just had the pleasure to watch this documentary on History Channel Germany. Some guy said in an interview that Superman was "Bernie Sanders on steroids". Another part of the storyline was that Superman is an immigrant who wants to give something back to society. I found this very interesting, because I always thought that this part of his story was a deus ex machina in order to explain his superpowers. We don't have people like that on Earth, so he must have been born somewhere else. This documentation made me curious about Supergirl (Angela Merkel on steroids?) and her background and motives.

The Superman cartoons of the Fleischer studio were certainly exciting, especially if you were a kid. Adults will fawn over their nostalgia value. For me they quickly lose their appeal, because they all follow essentially the same format. Seeing two of these cartoons is enough; after that, they seem to repeat, and my perception is if you've seen one Superman cartoon, you've seen them all.
