Wow it’s been a while since the Metropolitan Lounge served refreshments due do the pandemic. So if you have traditional dinning on the train, it means things are sort of going back to normal.
They're one of the first to experience regular dining car services, too, which is nice to see getting back to what passes for normal. I have not seen anyone relate how it worked, if it did, to order food delivery via Grubhub or Ubereats, to the train from some local eatery. If anyone has any experiences doing that, I'd love to know how to make it work. The Amtrak meals are fine, and free for those paying for roomettes or rooms, but coach passengers have to pay for meals.
Thank goodness your daughter wasn’t left behind at Galesburg, I cannot imagine and is why I always stay only step foot off the train and no further when it’s not my station stop! The traditional dining on Amtrak is awesome!
Did you see the Moon River, if yes what do you think about it, if not please look it up on google an interesting tradition only on the zephyr. What was your favorite meal on this train? Lastly how many hours of uninterrupted sleep did you get on this train?
Yes, we definitely saw the Moon River 😂. It's been awhile so I don't remember all the meals, but I do recall that the chili was surprisingly good. When it comes to sleep, it was mostly a matter of getting used to sleeping on a train. I didn't sleep that well the first night; I think I forgot to close the curtains and we passed through a town and the street lights woke me up. But I got more used to it (or maybe was just tired!) and slept like a log the second night.
The TSA mask mandate includes Amtrak, and the Amtrak employees on the train do enforce it fairly strictly if they see you without one. The one exception to this is within your own sleeper-car room you can take your mask off, or if you're actively eating/drinking.
love the video but suggest you add music at same level as talking...watching on TV and have to keep changing volume to hear you and lower music..your family is sweet, your daughter is gorgeous!🙂
Thanks for the feedback. I actually did try to increase the voice volume and decrease the music, but I guess it needed even more. The biggest issue was that the source audio was quiet (I'm kind of a quiet talker and we're required to keep our masks on when not in our rooms, which muffled voices even more). I should probably invest in an external mic, or maybe just speak louder. :)
Amazing trip report. I liked that you have reviewed the entire new traditional dining menu too. I have been on the California Zephyr many times. Highlights have always been westbound Denver to Grand Junction and eastbound, after Winter Park, seeing the lights of Denver from way up in the mountains.
Thanks! Prices vary depending on a lot of factors, like time of year. Currently, a Roomette which seats/sleeps 2 people and includes all meals costs ~$1000 USD. That's pretty close to the price we paid. They also have other room options. If you're willing to travel in coach, which is just a seat and doesn't include meals, it's only ~$150 USD per person. Some people only travel Denver to Emeryville, which costs less, but still lets you see the most scenic parts of the ride. Amtrak also occasionally has discounts, like 2 for 1. Just gotta check their website.
@@WunChiou Hay thanks for that The 2 for one offer sounds pretty good That's not a bad price I would love to go California to Nashville or Memphis you would probably have to get different trains I would believe I must have a more in-depth look at the rail service and destinations I think rail would be a good choice to see a good part of the country Thumbs up from Australia 👍🇦🇺👍 Thanks David
Because of spine problems, I cannot sit in one place for too long because of pain. So, I would never think about taking one of these long distance trains. Flying would be a better option for me.
You can walk around the train all cars if you have a roommate, if coach you can just walk through the coach cars and observation car as much as you want, try walking on the plane. Also ever you ever tried taking pain medication for the pain, it could help.
Yes, we flew to Chicago and spent one night there. If you're curious, we stayed at the JW Marriott Chicago, which is a rather nice hotel that's only about a 10-minute walk away from Union Station. The scenes in the beginning of the video are from us walking from the hotel to around the Chicago Riverwalk.
@@WunChiou Thanks. I'm planning to do the same as you but booked another hotel. I saw on Amtrak's website that the train was cancelled one day recently due to mudslides. That would ruin my whole itinerary so hoping for the best.

Pretty awesome you're the first to post the newly-renovated sightseer lounge car on youtube.

By the time you got up on Day 2, you were already in Colorado, not in Nebraska.

Galesburg, IL. Not Gainesville.
FINALLY someone shows the bathrooms. Thanks!
Beautiful vlog
Thanks for sharing
Very nice video 📹 👍
Thank you for taking us along.
What's with the mask?

Hi, question.
If there is one stop you would get off for an extended day or two ( vacation trip) which would they be?
😊
Hi there from Geelong Australia 👍🇦🇺👍👑
What would the price be a train ride like this
Great video to mate 🙂

Interesting hairstyle!
did you smell smoke from the wildfires anywhere on the route?
No, we didn't notice any. Our trip was from July 11-13, though. So, YMMV.
Floors and walls of corridors look grungy. What about public toilets? Were they kept clean?
Why are you wearing a face mask when you are on your own in the observation car ?
Anywhere on the train,. A mask 😷 required,, why risk & cause yourself trouble getting caught ??!!

Dood lose the music and I will subscribe. I love the trains and the views, but the loud music turns me off. At least turn it down.
Boring narrative

You FLEW o Chicago? From where? How long did you stay in Chicago? One night?

Well done. I'm doing the trip in November.
I like how you kick the doors to open between cars but you use bare hands to open the bathroom latch. Gross!
One can actuate the bathroom latch with a tissue between fingers and latch, but that does require awareness and planning.
