    What they don’t tell you is that if the motor breaks down and need replacement ECM is $2000 to replace but a regular motor around $300.

      You are correct Siami. It's said that new smart motors use 1/3+ less then a conventional PSC motor but what good is the savings if the new smart motors don't last as long and it costs you $1200 to replace it, when the old traditional blower motor lasts 20+ years and costs $300 to replace?

    Next talk about how much to replace a ECM motor and motherboard vs. and old style blower motor....the electricity savings might not be so good after all.

    Got a new furnace with an ECM blower. However, the touted savings are exaggerated, because an "inefficient" motor just makes more heat for the same kinetic energy output. But that heat gets added into the plenum, so the savings are just the difference between electric energy and gas energy.

    The ultra sophisticated units with all the bells an d whistles are great until something goes wrong. ECM motors are known for premature failure.

    my condensed air 1 stage gas is testing positive for toxic molds going through draintube its brandnew so does this mean it puts molds and pollutions into home and also it wont run with allergy filters cant handle thick allergy filters, these furnaces save gas company money and create money issues for home owners

      Mine is FIFTY years old...I am in sunny southern california and I have a 50 year old home about 2400 square feet two story. The furnace is original ...well except for upgrades and repairs but it is so old I am thinking to replace it just on general principal. I am a dyed in the wool do it yourselfer and it does not LOOK like a hard job to replace the furnace but I notice that advertised installation is typically WAY WAY more than the cost of a new furnace and I just don't understand that at all!?! I could understand if it were in the attic but it is in a little furnace closet upstairs, there is a flexible gas line like on clothes dryer and water heater, there is outlet the cord is plugged into and the thermostat wires which are nothing.... other than that the only difficulty I can see is finding a furnace the same dimensions as this one and connecting the heat vent and the ducting. the heat vent is now sheetmetal that we replaced a few years back when the home was remodeled (it HAD been asbestos) Really how hard is to replace a furnace like this?? It sits on top of a inlet at the bottom and then somewhere on top or out the back? is the main duct(s) feeding upstairs and downstairs...its a skinny tall furnace but most I see in ads look squatty ...is this something a homeowner can do? Or at least partially do?? I'm thinking if I just demo this one out of there and plop a new one in at worst I'll need someone to come patch in the ducts if it is beyond my ability?? Is that reasonable??

    Contractors charging $8000 on a $1600 AC unit is the common problem tgat manufacturers are fixing it. Why not the manufacturers also do installation or fix the price.

    350 bucks a year for electricity for blower? Where? in the east? Not in southern california...can't be ...especially if you HATE having the temp over 68 degrees and that when awake...

    • @markbrinton6790
      @markbrinton6790 5 лет назад

      That's just the blower. The AC compressor that generates the cold is what is expensive. Two different things.

    DC motors have brushes to replace down the road still a good motor but not every body can do it themselves. If DC motors use less electricity then why do they put an AC motor in the Chevrolet Volt?
