To keep your water bladder tube from freezing, blow the water back into the bladder after drinking. This leaves the tube empty. But yeah, I use bottles and put them in my pack upside down so the mouths don't freeze.
Checkout the Thrunite Th10 headlamp when you're looking to replace that one. I worked at night as a field biologist and lived and died by my headlamp and have broken many of them, this one is excellent. It has infinite adjustability down to a candle and up to very bright, and is milled out of single piece of anodized aluminum. It's also about a 3rd the size of the one you have there and seems to sip battery power. It has a single recessed button for on/off and intensity adjustment. I often have trouble with my headlamps turning on in my pack and draining the battery, the TH10 has done that, but far less frequently than others and is well within my range of acceptability. I have 2, they're both several years old, and malfunction free. The ONLY drawback is for people that need the red light, this one doesn't have that. A creative person could create a red light filter that would slip onto it very easily if need be. I never liked them if my headlamp will get dim enough.
Great stuff man. Your retention setup here and the AR cheek pistol are both really innovative. I just bought some gear on Black Friday for a backpacking/whitetail hunting setup and I wish I would’ve seen this first. My scenario will be much different but still great info.
Also, another good digging implement when nature calls is a snow stake, they are light, bigger and flatter than a normal stake, and made for sticking in the ground.
I know I'd enjoy more similar content. I like to take a scout rifle with the idea of saving weight as well. My Ruger GSR usually fits the bill perfectly. Good stuff.
Iodine is my first ditch for water. I was on a backpacking trek to Everest Base Camp in college. The UV steri pens were big back then, everyone who used one got sick. The iodine taste is comforting. Means it’s working.
Love the channel and have learned so much. I’m definitely stealing the trauma shears for removing the hide idea. I’m wondering how/if you carry binoculars since your elk pistol is slung across your chest. I hate having my bins knocking around with other stuff upfront, but I really like having them easily accessible.
Interesting stuff. Slightly disturbed by the idea of a crew of dudes who take apart human beings for a living out in the bush. Seems like a great start to a true crime podcast, tho.

That's a brilliant fix.

I use roofing hook blades as disposable gut hooks. Works great and cheap. Thanks for great content. Enjoy the season!
Funny. That’s how fast I talk whenever I drink 3 cups of Starbucks coffee one after another 😂😂😂
Great thought out process, I learned a lot thanks.
Thank you for this video. There is always something to learn from a fellow hunter.
So I like all your videos but this is something a little different. Very cool 👍🏾
Lol I always forget what you do for a living (autopsies?) and it always surprises me for a brief moment before I realize what you're talking about

I don’t carry them. They’re useless where I hunt. Too thick to use anywhere except from the truck, where they live.
Guns are great, but they're just one part of the system
This was an interesting video
What hardware do you use to attach your gun to the pack?
I think those camel packs should never be used in cold weather. I’ve had them leak all over my clothing inside the backpack.
I had one pop while trying to keep it from freezing in my sleep system. That was an unfortunate night. LOL
19:12 We're talking about doctors here, right? Right?
I think he's talked about working in the organ donation field before.
Great video, good luck with the hunt
I keep getting smaller packs but I keep filling them up 😂
Good luck and thanks for sharing.
The med shears for access through the back hyde is a fine idea - now ripped off
What caliber do you use?
65 Grendel. He has a video on his elk pistolq
