- In this video, despite freezing temperatures, I scarf the cabin side plywood and sheer stringers. And it's not that difficult. Thank you and fair winds
I get it - you send Mrs Rover off to buy clamps, and then you sneak into the house - pretty cunning...
Boosting the YT algorithm. Always a joy to watch the videos twice. Best to you, Mrs. Wave Rover and Mr. Speckles.
You're the best!
Scarf away! Mary wouldn't let me do this in the living room....lol
Mrs Rover is a Saint. It's really great to see your motivation to get it done even with temperature adversity. Putting the plank on the side gave great visual of a great looking cabin. And the tips to stop wood skating while gluing, super handy.
I know what you mean. And when I put the sides on for the first time it was a really fantastic moment for me. It really has a beautiful shape. Not boxy like a lot of small home built boats.
You just wanted to show off Mrs Rovers new pad! Looks great!
We are both very pleased with how it turned out. Lot's of colour.
Looking forward to seeing the sides and cabin top go on. Very impressive and no special tools required.
Coming soon!
Excellent explanation of this difficult step. Thank you.
You are welcome!
Coming along really nice Alan !!
Thanks 👍
Nice scarfing. The pine stringers came out great, a good strong framing for the plywood sides. You're right, that is one major project on your build of Wave Rover.
Thanks 👍
Wonderful tutorial on the scarfing and fitting.
My coffee is being poured at the same moment you mentioned ordering a cup .
That's funny.
I'm sure you will have plenty of hands on deck to help you launch WaveRover, but if nothing else ,I would like to be there and buy you a coffee and support you with cheers from the shore. It's only three or four hour drive for me to Summerside. I will be enthusiastically watching till then
@@troyegerter5155 I'm just beginning to think about the launch. I'm thinking approximately the first week of July.
This is a huge job for one boat!!! Go on. Good luck!!
Mrs. Rover must be really happy that her cosy house smells now from polyester.
Reminds me, when I was gluing my deckbeams beside of my bed, one every other day.
I hope it was epoxy and not polyester resin :)
The epoxy I'm using has no odor unlike polyester.
@@RoversAdventure I am glad to hear that !
And to be frank, I dunno the diffrence between epoxy and poliester.
I am a steel guy, welding is my thing. You weld a ring to the hull, and you can lift the whole boat with it. I like that.
@@willymueller3278 If you are nearby Willy I need to get a bunch of SS welding done.
@@RoversAdventure Hi Allan, I would really like to help you out, but I am on the other side of the bloody Atlantic right now. I welded all the fuel - and watertanks for a friend in mild and stainless steel, and, you won' t beleave it, they are completely watertight.
I once met a guy who was a very good welder and very funny, too, he lived in Liverpool, Nova Scotia, at Mt Pleasent, I forgot his Name, but he is the Giroscopter man, everybody knows him there.
Of course Mrs Rover is out of town, you're scarfing in the living room and getting away with it.
Hi Alan, well done !
Werner from Germany
Thanks for watching Werner.
Good work as always.
Thank you! Cheers!
looks good
On a more serious note, hope this severe cold snap passes you by unscathed, and all those chemicals stay healthy. I was wondering, if people were to follow in your footsteps, would a taller piece of wood (not sure what you call it - top inside edge re-enforcer, opposite to where a rubbing strake would be) with a rebate to bed the ply into have been an option?
Absolutely, but that would still require some challenging shaping. The hull and cabin sides have an angle change at that point.
The wind constantly howling might get to me after a while, at first I thought it was cats
It only happens when it blows from the North and hit the overhead door. To me it's kind of like heavy weather music.
Amazing how good a lubricant epoxy is. Makes stacked scarfs ve ry difficult.
So true!
It's really looking like a boat now, you can visualise the finished lines.
It's quite gratifying for me when I get to see a visual like the curves take shape. The cabin sides next and the the cabin top.
Connecting the pine to the shear of the boat was a really tricky part of the build. I can see why getting an ideal solution needed a bit more consideration than other parts of the build. The scarf join for the join in the two pieces is under a bit more shear stress, did you need to reinforce it at all? I know you considered pinning it.
As I'll demonstrate in the next weeks video, the scarf joint is stronger than the wood.
Hey, Alan!
Nice background sound!
Fits really good to a sailors channel! 😃👍
Aaaaahm, I know it´s private..! 🙄
But, please tell us, what´s that funny machine with the huge belt drive on the kitchen board?
Success to your project! 😉👍
That's our grain grinder for making fresh flour
@@RoversAdventure
Wow!😳
Looks a little antique, but heavy duty!
I like it!😃👍
Question ! Wouldn’t be easier and more efficient if you ran all your water, electric, etc before you close in the topsides? Im just going on working on the boats I have worked on so many tight cramped areas to scuttle into
My original idea was to leave the cabin top off for better light and room to work. But weather considerations and schedule may mean adapting the plan. I'm not quite there yet but "to adapt and overcome" is the motto for this build.
Impressive to not get any glue on the floor, I would not manage.
LOL, I just want to be able to use the space again.
Could also make the joint a bit oversize and run the whole thing through a thicknesser. .
Very true, but I don't have access to a thicknesser.
@@RoversAdventure I got one last year and what a beast of a machine it very well is. However, without a jointer I'm a bit limited as all I have is table saw. I chopped down mine to be 15mm square so I could guarantee the the edge set and sheerline. Took ages as I had to make up four strips per gunwale, 2 in, 2 out but worked in the end. Some pics on my channel.
Beginning to doubt the viability of your timetable- with your nice shop I would have thought heating would have been a priority for this build to reduce the down time.
About the timeline, all I can do is give it my best.

If you want to see an interesting sail boat transformation. Go look at the Duracell project. They're transforming a former race sail boat to cruiser.
