Yvette Young hears riff she likes.
Yvette: I'd tap that.
Legend
This comment deserves to be pinned
I tuned my guitar to D A D F# A E put my capo on the 2nd fret
Strummed the open strings like Yvette did
And then gave up
Lmfaoo I feel you bro
tuned them and all my strings popped at once
I saw the capo and gave up LOL....me don't like playing with capo
Hahahhah same here
I learned it in an hour.
She protecc, she attacc, but most importantly she do the good tapp.
I remember this meme
Tap queen!
Let’s all take a moment to acknowledge that she plays like this using a clean tone and single coils!
Nah she uses loads of pedals
sehibi Wassim she has a video on her channel playing it clean chief
and with 12's and sometimes 13's as the string gauge. owie.
@thedog556 actually yeah I found that when you tap with a clean tone you end up hitting the strings harder and with the super slinky strings that pushes it out of tune
"And that's it."
YEAH. RIGHT.
*is crying*
"normal speed" OH SHIT wait a moment
"Half speed" OH SHIT wait a moment (but half speed)
O H S H I T w a i t a m o m e n t
"so you just play this cord and transition to this chord and it also has a slap thing and a paralel slide" while I'm here like "so capo on 2".
Is it just me or this riff sounds beautiful at half speed
Yes, it is just you
Yeah. can actually appreciate what she's playing.
some guitarist feel like they need to impress with super technical abilities or play super fast. But sometimes a good riff is articulate, clear and breathes.
Play too fast, in The Listener can't really get a foothold
@@greenvelvet to me it kinda loses most of its feeling when its half speed. maybe im used to the original but i don't think trying to impress anyone is yvette's case anyways.
I've been practicing this for about 3 weeks and now I'm kinda close to her speed. thank you so much. Bring more of Ivette, please.
The only part that's holding me back is my finger picking 🥝
Looks like it'll take me that long too lol
Ok what is the second chord can’t seem to get it and it’s making me so angry😂
@@oxsnxiwn7804 e 9 7 d 7 g open b with capo on 2
@@tidoehicks5001 im 2 years late but try picking on the neck section of the guitar instead of near the body so u dont need to move ur hand a distance to tap
“so basically the only two skills youll need are the hardest two skills”
Sweeping.
@@zacredington4776 yeah I found sweeping way harder than tapping or fingerstyle xD
tapping is actually ez
I'm actually pretty good at tapping, harmonics trip me up though.
@@Iliketoeatallday harmonics was something I was shown years ago on my first guitar lesson and it was hard but I would practice like 5 hours a day so I had em good after 2 or so weeks
She has the voice that immediately makes you feel comfortable, and she is a very good teacher, love her music style and ARTWORK too! Cool tunes, need to check their music out!
She is so inspiring! What's even more impressive was learning that she's self taught and she has her own tunings, as well as makes her own chord shapes. I hope I can play like her one day!
you got this! keep practicing!!
I love, love, love this riff.... She's really clever.
I've been practicing this riff alllll day and my fingers are killing! Not used to tapping but have pretty much almost got this riff down and I couldn't be happier, so thank you :)
I always find it interesting how in a lot of these videos of artists teaching their own riffs that they have to almost reverse engineer their own riff because to them it came somewhat naturally to play a certain way and it didn't occur to them that they're doing something other people would find difficult until they try to explain it, like here with the little nuances of the slaps and muting between phrases.
Learning this riff is honestly so much fun. It’s the first two hand tapping riff I’m learning and it’s good fun. The rest of the song is 😳
Came to watch the Weekly Riff. Left completely in Love.
dude i've been wanting to learn this riff! super cool to see Yvette on the channel! will be learning for sure.
I love this and her
Her band is incredible.
Awesome playing what a beautiful riff
Nice guitar.. love your stockings
Damn that sounds awesome! Great guitar playing🤘
Thanks for the video it was incredibly easy to follow!
A true artist and GREAT inspirational musician..thank you..you are fabulous!!!
I cant wait to get up in the morning and play this🥲
Three days in and i can play it now yay
Fuark.
Love the technique and sound!
Day two and I can finally do the first two alternating parts to this section, 1 more day or so and i will be able to. Thank you for this magic!!!!!!!
I wanted a tuto of this so bad!! Thank you
holy shit, 35 seconds in and i was already tripping cause i got the tuning wrong and was tripping on what note it was even though it was written infront of my eyes, she is good man
Beatifull song Yvette, i loved like that. SALUDOS DESDE MÉXICO.😙😙😙😙😙😙😙😙😙😙😙😙💙💙💙💙💙
She’s awesome 👏🏼
That editing though. Isaac is nailing it!
So sick style. thank you

amazing
Ahhhhhhhhhhh. Yknow I had stuff to do today now I gotta spend my time learning this riff. Great breakdown though this stuff is so complicated its nice to hear it being explained. I usually try to learn stuff by ear but Covet is a different story ahahahah.
ruclips.net/video/T2YsMAYoG_k/видео.html
D A D F# A E: Open D9 chord. I love it!
I know this is completely different vibe, but very Joni Mitchell/Bob Dylan Blood On The Tracks type tuning
Pure Talent
It's as if GEAR GODS have seen Yvette walk out the door after she finished recording the OWL riff and they said, "Can you do another riff before you leave?" And then she made this video as fast as she could xd
I got the same idea
Her and Mansur Brown are the two top young players for me. Next level players.
Such a beauty!
Guitar is nice too. XD
Really talented.👌
Beautiful, arpeggio patterns Yvette.
Dope af
I’m tempted to get it from her it’s just ugh she makes it seem so beautiful
Sounds awesome.

Thanks for this one, a pleasure to working your song, I really like what you do ! Go on.
(Sometimes it was hard to follow you, sometimes was too fast, should be better with a tab on the screen maybe !)
Good thing it still sounds really cool at half speed because that's all I could hope to play it at.
I liked this before watching it because I wanted this so badly lmao
honestly the hardest part was getting over how weird it felt to pick at the 12th fret :D but ive learned some other tap happy riffs before so im biased. super fun to play!
The perfect woman exists in the form of Yvette Young.
she gives determination to my also small fingers
That Gunter face in the beginning really had me.
Argh! Soo GOOD!
How do you get that type of tone when you tap on the high e string? I get a very buzzed-out quiet sounding tone every time I try
That turn...
So cool to see these techniques. I never study this kind of playing. 5/5 would watch more
I'm just mesmerized by her beauty 😍😍. Amazing guitar player too
She should show us chord shapes in this awesome tuning.
is her style of playing as unique and mind blowing as my mind is making it?
what a beautiful human
Love her style of playing so cool just like Sarah longfield, she is insane at all her crafts
YVETTE, I LOVE YOU! :)

MAF ROK
the first chord just keeps sending my mind to nautilus - not even sure if its the same chord
Sounds good slowed down too.
Looks so simple.
Could somebody help me, i'm struggling to understand how to play the two taps on 12 at around 4:52, without cancelling out the sound of the parallel slide, am i doing something wrong? maybe not tapping quick enough or something?
Well sorry this reply is late, but the way Yvette plays it involved removing your tapping fingers from the 12's and heavily hammering on the other two notes for the slide immediately after, but you need to make sure your tapping fingers are definitely being removed before the hammer on happens.
Alternatively, if you struggle with that, what I find myself subconsciously doing is pulling my fingers off the 12's in such a way that it's similar to picking them, while my left hand is already holding the correct notes ready for the slide. The 1st way is the "right" way as far as I can see, but you may find option 2 more helpful and sounds near identical, just with a slightly different attack on the note. Hope this helps if you haven't got it already!
@@yoho6104 Yeah i'm still learning so i'm this will be a great help! Thankyouu
@@awesomus100 No problem, I just started learning it this morning too so good luck to us both! I'm sure you'll nail it
Cuteness overload + Shaggy killing skills =
"Its kinda give it a little sus..."
❤
I just wanna synthwave the hell out of this riff. It's beautiful. Hope I don't absolutely ruin it.
I don't have a capo, so I'm swinging it, yeah !
I know someone who used to use a pencil with tied rubber bands as a capo.
Passing an exam be like 0:12
What chords she's playing?
Does she use pedals here? Compressor pedal?
Nope. Jus finger strength and technique.
Really? When she playing live i watch she always had some pedal.
@@enigma-g5549 I'm pretty sure she has really good finger strength and dexterity. She used to play piano competitively when she was younger and she's an absolute monster at it.
0:37 normal speed
0:52 half speed
Can someone explain to me why the tap section didn’t even take any practice to learn but those first four finger picked notes before each tapped section feel impossible?
Yvette has free JamPlay video where she goes through a finger exercise that likely will help with that issue. Also notice the picking pattern is slightly different for the bridges so adjust the exercise accordingly (no brainer).
But basically
Keep the top three strings open
Choose a scale that fits with the open strings
Choose a picking pattern for your index, middle and ring fingers
Play the scale and picking pattern at the same time
Increase tempo once you feel comfortable
Alternatively break the troublesome pattern into smaller chunks. The smallest possible chunk is two notes so start with that. 😆
Tu utilises quel amplis ?
Vox AC-10
@@mikeallen3666 J'aime ton style Mike.
Can i do this on an acoustic ?
Sure, if your frets and strings are OK and you can hear the tone just fine. Yvette performed this on an acoustic at some point i'm pretty surr
Yeah, but you'll have to tap extra hard to negate the natural harmonics, which will prove beneficial for your technique in the future.
Tattoo: "to exist in the world but not listen to it"
Screw that, Imma listen to Yvette Young. She's great, Covet is great, and Shibuya holds one of the 🎸riffs of the decade.
Two words.... Lint roller..... Awesome lesson!!!
i found out that i cant tap with my strumming / finger hands index finger cause i have no calluses on the top so the sound is so fucking weak that it sounds like shit
man if she isn't as cute as a box of kittens with a cold. ....and shes a GREAT fuckin guitarist, too!!!
lmao Yvetts voice sure sounbds weird at ha
I wish she'd tell us what the strings were instead of just the frets 😭
tuning the guitar is already complex... I'll not giving up !
can you play on my funeral please
"Been there, done that", - STANLEY JORDAN- 😊 But yes! The world needs more guitarists emulating Stanley's "touch" style. It would be awesome if Covet and Elephant Gym should gig together. 😊
Beautiful, glorious. And the lady is not bad either.
Got jokes i see
How nice is a bit of sweetness on your channel...
Camera didn’t help a lot to understand the playing
When you realized its not really half speed
i'm kinda into yvette or sumthin. oops
How many people are actually trying to play this?
Many?
I wish she explained as well as she played guitar :(
I'm more interested with the strap that she's using tho
Who are the 7 petty people who didn't like this video
Waifu
don’t even try boiii, her heart belongs to San
@@hxvm01 sans*
also min 3:58 is the 10th fret not the 9th smh your hair
Thats so cute, she think people can learn that
in short give up
