I’ve been drumming for about 6 years and I’ve played matched grip the whole time. I’ve decided that I want to try traditional and maybe even switch over because I’m mostly playing jazz these days. I think I have my fingers in the right place but I’m having trouble getting any rebound, and I can’t play double strokes easily or fluidly. Is this down to just practising more? Or is there maybe something wrong with my actual grip?
Hello. First of all, traditional grip can be really tricky and I don't push it on my students unless they really want to learn it. If you haven't checked them out already, I have a video on traditional grip exercises that hopefully can help. I also have another video on troubleshooting technique that can be preventing freedom of stick bounce and movement. ruclips.net/video/Z9g7nv3PCrg/видео.html ruclips.net/video/pupvjo-Qycs/видео.htmlsi=Oco9-7348TLJICFi

They're Vic Firth 8D. I've only discovered them in the last few years and I really like everything about them from the size to the weight balance. They're beefy enough to project when I'm playing in funk bands outdoors and I also use them for my small group jazz gigs.
Great valuable and clear explanation i appreciate you sharing your knowledge with us
