  • Mistakes you make when bathing your dog. In this video, you will learn the proper way to bathe a dog at home or as a professional dog groomer. You see, most people (even professionals) skip the conditioning process and immediately sabotage the rest of the groom. Dog shampoo and dog conditioner are designed to perform two very different tasks. Neither can be great without the other and this dog grooming tutorial walks you through every step of bathing and drying your dog.
It is so very important to learn the proper way to bathe a dog in order to prepare the skin and coat for a haircut. But most of all, set your dog up for success by correctly taking care of its skin and coat.
Remember... the skin is the largest organ in your dog's body.

I know I have never commented on your videos before. But I want to do so right now. I brought home Luna. 13 lb Maltese Havanese. I started watching your videos many months before I knew I was going to bring her home. Even purchased a small grooming table. Some cheap Clippers and scissors. To get her desensitize to grooming. I'm too chicken to groom her. But boy does she love the bathtub. She is fascinated with water. Bathing. I love giving her baths. Occasionally I get brave enough to trim around her eyes. And I tribute the confidence and happiness I've learned to you and your videos! The things I have learned from you will last a lifetime with my puppy!

Not that using a groomer is bad! It's just a whole other level of commitment to do it yourself, IMO. 🤷
      Anyway, good on you.
And I TOTALLY love this gal for sharing her knowledge with everyone. She will be the cause of a LOT of well cared for, healthier animals in this world.

I have a wonderful set of your Sapphire shears that I love!!! I have an area set up just for my grooming so I can groom Ozzy when I am in the mood and he needs it. I just had a schnauzer pass away May 19th, Gypsy. She had cancer. I always took her to the groomer and they made her beautiful. I picked up a mini schnauzer puppy on July 15th, Baxter. I will be grooming him. Thanks to you and all your advice and videos grooming my dog has become much more pleasant for everyone. Thank you so much!!

It’s so sad that the reality in the grooming salons it’s so different from this video. They don’t take the time with dogs. They just want to get done as quick as they can so the next one can get in. Not all groomers care about the dogs; they just care about the money. 😔

It really depends on the salon or if it's corporate owned.
Even those who work at corporate still usually care very much about the dogs, they are just pushed to get it done fast.
I know groomers from all over the country in all kinds of situations...and all of them care about the dogs ^^
Some of them need education, some need a better work enviorment ❤

Your bathing video was extremely helpful. This is the second time I've viewed it. I did purchase the absorbent towel which I love. I also , purchased your two sided slicker brush which is awesome. I used it for the first time last week while bathing my Shih Tzu. It worked out wonderfully. I already have a flea comb that I use to remove the dirt below my dog's eyes after I've saturated her face with water. I do use a quality shampoo & conditioner on my dog however, I'm going to try out the one you used in this video, (Petals & Trails). I always shampoo my dog twice and rinse thoroughly. Then I apply the conditioner as you have demonstrated in this video. You are an excellent teacher and dog groomer. Thanks for all you do for dogs and for pet owners as well. Your video in my opinion are priceless.

my cockapoo has a weird coat--it feels like a cotton ball in some places, especially when you pull it apart to untangle. She has super curly feet and the curls loosen as they go up her legs. She is black and white and the black hair on her head and butt is similar to dreadlocks (small bologna curls) The white hair is straighter on her body, with the exception of her feet which are very curly. Do you treat curly hair the same as straight hair in the process of a puppy cut? Is there anything different I should be doing? The back of her back legs continueally mat, even after brushing daily and keeping on the shorter side. Any suggestions would be helpful! Also the shampoo/conditioner in this video is too pricey for me (retired with fixed income) are there any others that you would recommend? Thank you for such detailed videos. I'm learning so much! You do a great job explaining and showing the proper way to do it all! 🥰

Thank you for the idea to dilute the conditioner! it works great. Another idea I recently picked up is adding a bit of water to shampoo and using a small hand whipper to make it foam. easy to apply without water and fully saturates the hair and skin, Now I have the ideal bathing method from start to finish! Thanks!

Thank you for another great video. I have a hard time understanding why groomers talk to dogs in a higher pitch "baby talk". Why not just talk to the dog? Most guys know not to spend so much for absorbent drying towels for they are identical to what is used to dry cars for many years. It cost a quarter the price through a car detail shop. But women have their quirks, so who am I to question it.

About drying towels: I’m worried that while those towels are stored damp the bacteria grows inside. May he for a groomer it’s helpful because you use it all the time. What do you think?

Hello Amy Leigh, this is the third time that I'm viewing your bathing video. Since I last saw your video two weeks back I'm thinking of adopting an Imperile Shin Tzu. I already have an adorable Shin Tzu mix whose name is Josie. She's the best dog I've ever had. I really love the Shin Tzu breed but this time I'm adopting an Imperial Pure Breed Shin Tzu. I will be picking her up in sometime during the first or second week in October. Presently she is only 4 days old. Could you be so kind as to share with me what type of brush, comb and shampoo/conditoner that I should buy for this new fur baby. I have a professional dog groomer who grooms from her home. She is an outstanding professional dog groomer. My dog looks like a show dog when she's done grooming my sweet Josie. The day after I receive the new fur baby I will be taking her to my holistic veterinarian for her first wellness check. Next when should I schedule this new pup's first professional groom? I will bathe her as soon as I bring her home but when should sshe recieve her first professional groom. As for bathing supplies this is what I have thus far and use on my sweet Josie. One absorbent towel, a two sided slicker brush, you recommended in your vido, a flea comb, and a six inch comb. As for dog shampoo/conditoner I use a Hypo-allergenic blend, fragrance free, shampoo and conditioner by Chris Christensen. What else do I need for this new puppy? What brand of Dremel should I purchase? I like to dremel my dog's nails after I've trimmed them. I need a new dog hair dryer, what do you suggest? I just bought a Happy Hoodie for my Josie and will use it on the new pup as well. Is there anything else that I need? I want to be totally prepared for this new pup. I'm going to leave this new pup's coat a bit long but certainly not touching the floor. Therefore, I'm going to need the correct brush for this pure breed Shin Tzu. Thanks for all you do for dogs and for us pet parents. Your an outstanding teacher of dog grooming. I love your videos and their priceless to me as a dog parent.

A lot of groomers are taught to do that to save time, and only have one rinse. But obviously it kills the benefits of both the shampoo and the conditioner.

Every salon I've been in, every groomer I know doesn't use conditioner because it "takes too long."
There's zero understanding for how important conditioning is.
It's super disheartening trying to find a salon that shares the same values in actually caring for a coat and the pets skin.

Hi, new subscriber here. I am really at my wit's end, i have 2 westies they are sisters. 1 you can do anything, bath nails, trim etc, the other omg 😮 I have bought a grooming table. She spins around on the lead that hangs down wont let me near her bottom ir nails. Thing is shes just been on season, and I need to trim her underneath as she been licking and as she has winter fur shes got 2 bits that are matted. Cannot get near her, I dont want to have to take her to the vet to put out for that, i just dont know what to do, she screams at high pitch whilst the other one wants to get up to get cut. Can you offer any advice please 🙏😢
