Thank you for this comparison video, I did enjoy seeing it. Jyst so you know that the difference between the colours Red and Blue in flour making is Red is 'Self raising' which added to the flour is baking soda to make things like certain cakes rise. Blue is 'Plain flour' used in fruit cakes etc. Other flours are Bread flour, Wholegrain, Wholemeal etc.

OMG Whitley Bridge is where my Mother & siblings were born & raised. It was our second home growing up. Sadly our old house has been demolished now & new development has been built but i remember driving past the old flour mill many a time. What a great memory, thanks guys x

I always think these big industrial places are some of the saddest to see abandoned. When one thinks that not so long ago they would have been a hive of activity, with hundreds and sometimes over a thousand people in there working and milling around. The silence is almost as loud as the machines would have been!

Omg thankyou! I always wanted to see inside this building but unfortunately I left it too long and missed out but thanks to u I got a look. I was slightly disappointed how modern everything was and i thought it was probs a time cap from old days not knowing is was still working till 2016? Nice homework guys x

Great video lads. I remember seeing the mill when I first moved to Southampton a few years ago, and I did wonder what it looked like inside. I guess I now know, which is very useful since there is nothing of the mill left, and now there's a brand new cruise ship terminal.

Those numbers on the machines are the ‘lot’ numbers by the look of it, must have been trying to sell them at one point

These heavey duty machines that are still there in both may be the original ones from 30s or 40s or maybe 50s very rare to see and possibly worth alot of money at auction

The bowman flour mill has now been demolished but just up the road a brand new mill built by buhler is now up and running. The mill is the most advanced mill ever built and is owned and operated by Whitworth bros .There is a video of the new mill which shows really how far the production methods have advanced. The mill is called the E3 and a quick search should find it .

The Solent Mill machinery looks like it would have been installed for decades, so must have been well engineered. I guess it was all ripped out and scrapped because at 2.02 you see one of the roll stands being flipped over by the demolition crew.
