  • For two centuries Asians have largely been bystanders in world history, reacting to surges of Western commerce, thought, and power.
    Now former United Nations Ambassador Kishore Mahbubani -- whom Foreign Policy magazine ranked as one of the top 100 public intellectuals in the world -- declares that era is over and the West must embrace rather than resist this structural shift.

    Kishore Mahbubani declares that era is over and the West must embrace rather than resist this structural shift.He is not emphasizing .this is time for payback to the west.He is emphasizing we should embrace this in a peaceful atmosphere which we can strive for more productivity and peace in this sadly torn world.Negativity is certainly not the answer to any problem.

    How about Zheng He the Chinese who sailed around half of the world aboard a giant ship, a ship which was constructed in a manner which is ahead of its time, it had water compartments which prevented it from sinking, these kind of ship construction was used by the Chinese 60 years before the Europeans used it; the ship was also enormous that it dwarfed Columbus ship; it sailed half of the world during a time where the western world thought that the world was flat and ships would fall off the sea

    This is a wonderful video and lecture. The biggest problem with the West, is that the East studies the West, speaks it's language in it's desire to understand it, because the cardinal rule, especially if you read the art of war, is if you know your enemy, and you know yourself, you will never be defeated. The West considers the East "inscrutable", because it is too proud to learn it's language or ways, and instead insists that the East must only know theirs... to the West's own detriment.

    There is no younger part of the West. Do you think European people suddenly popped out of nowhere? The West is just as connected to ancient Greece and Rome (and whatever was before) as modern China and India is connected to their ancient history.

    Under NO circumstances must we have a marriage of discredited, amoral church, and the moral convictions of a liberal secular State. The principal problem has been Catholicism and its equally pernicious fellow-travellers. NO to mindless, futile superstition; YES to common-sense rationality.

    @danny3571 - Mathematics, number systems/decimal, binary, concept of 0, etc, were invented in what we now know as India. Knowledge travelled to west via the arabs. Hence west called it arab number systems. Scientific world knows the truth now. India at that stage was known as Bharat or Hnidustan and included pakistan and bangladesh, before division in 1940's. These inventions are 1000-2000 BC timeframe. Utube ancient vedic maths.

  • @MagicalHax0r

    @banyohazard69 Also, how do you refute my general assertion? Is it not true that the majority of contributers to the sciences, technologies, inventions, politics, etc. were European? This is all I'm asserting, and because we Europeans have been the main contributers, nobody really has the empirical evidence that is history to claim that Asians, Africans, or any others are "better" than Europeans in any context of advancing the human race. It's possible to say Europeans > world, but ppl then cry.

  • @topnotchazn
    @topnotchazn 15 лет назад

    we ASIANS just accept it and (improve )it...not claim it to be ours to denounce other race of people....or say we are better because we made it or patented it....once again, we live life by bettering the quality of life, we dont live by changing it to our likeness based on the views we see life to be for everyone to live by or accept it !!!...

    I guess we need to stop acting up about the old supposed West vs. East-conflict and just treat eachother as equal.
    It's globalization, and it'scoming faster than anyone can imagine.
    But there's one thing, I'm sorry if I missed it, but did Mr. Mahbubani address the issue of supplies of food and energy that will support the new asian middle class?
    Otherwise a wonderful speech.

  • @banyohazard69
    @banyohazard69 13 лет назад +1

    @MagicalHax0r Are you even serious about this, huh? The Asian country's have all been advanced in those things even before the west was able to know more about them; there is a BBC documentary that says China and India were already using Mathematics equations/formulas like trigonometry, etc. 100 years before the Europeans re-discovered about them and claimed they invented them, 100 years! that's how advance Asia is compared to the west., and that's even according to BBC which is British itself.

  • @banyohazard69
    @banyohazard69 13 лет назад +2

    @MagicalHax0r didn't you read what I said earlier? BBC said that you Europeans discovered about those equations 100 years after the Chinese and Indians started using it, then you claimed it that you Europeans invented them when actually is not true, so how can you contribute much to mathematics compared to the Chinese and Indians when they have been using it a century earlier,it just means they are advanced in that field compared to you Europeans and btw the Arabs are an Asian society too y'know

    @banyohazard69 Oh cool you must've learned alot from BBC news channel. Is that where you pull out all these sources from? Yes, they might have used Mathematics equations/formulas like trigonometry but who do you think developed these into what they are today? This math you claim Asia knew isn't advanced math. The basics of math were created mainly by Arabs along with a few other Asian contributions, but the Greeks and other Europeans are to thank for the math you know today.

    They didnt, the India was, but the they only dominate them for a short period of time compare to India's thousands year of history, if one thing in the history is sure, is that no one can conquer and rule the whole world by force, old civilization like India, China, middle East, and the ancient Greece have realized that, but the Younger part of the West have not fully realized that until now.

    Only 30% of the Okinawans regard themselves as pure Japanese. Japan invaded Okinawa (Ryuchu Kingdom) 115 years ago, which was a protectorate of China. Even for today, Okinawans still retain their unique culture. If you do some research, you will know that Karate was in fact originated from Okinawa and is not Japanese. The current Okinawa independence movement is underway. The Western world should support Okinawa's independence instead of just focusing on Tibet.

    It's hard for the west to welcome Asia rise.If i were a Caucasian, I would too. The fear of losing dominance for nearly 2 centuries gradually to other parts of the world is a real cause of fear.But if look around u, the world is still in the grasp of western innovation and technology, although a lot of goods are made in China. Jeans, I phone ,computer, pen ,tuxedo, the list go on forever. Everywhere.To me it will still take along long time b4 Asia or the rest of world could match up to them.

    @MagicalHax0 And another thing... who developed those math equations? hahaha! certainly not the Europeans who only happened to discover it 100 years later, You think that the greeks and other Europeans gave the Chinese the math? hahaha! the Chinese were one of the oldest civilizations just like the Arabs (mesopotamia), and that was during the time that other Europeans were being called barbarians by the greeks. hahaha!

  • @MagicalHax0r
    @MagicalHax0r 13 лет назад

    @jukio02 When you say the Europeans have copied the Chinese, you're implications are incredibly general and exagerrated. Yes, of course Europe used some inventions of the Chinese. And from those inventions, such as the gun powder, we made a series of inventions and machines connected to this gun powder. I think you deserve the credit of helping Europe out, but do you think you deserve the credit of the following inventions from the gun powder which you did not make?

    Any country can rise if it opens up to new ideas and knowledge beyond its shores. Traditional knowledge is not enough. America learned because she had to and became what it is. Japan did the same even though she was more traditional and provincial. China started to learn again only in the 80's, after centuries of arrogance and within that short time it became what it is. There are nations which don't want to learn nor want to embrace others. These are nations which will never become.

    @MagicalHax0r How were Europeans > world, the things that you mentioned about science, mathematics, etc. were already discovered by those Asian societies even before Europeans had any idea about it, and they did it 100 years or so before you guys did.. the reason you have contributed many things in the advancement of Humanity is because the west has ruled the world order for the past 200 years, meaning you had the resources to do so, now that the wheel is turned then expect more from the east.

    @jukio02 Also, I've heard those Chinese inventions you've stated so from many Chinese people who think China can stand up to Europe's technological and scientific achievements. The Chinese didn't invent no where near enough what Europe invented; inventions of which the Chinese copied and use today. Do you see the business suits your Chinese government wears? European. How about you're type of economy and government ideology? European; watched European economy and copied it.

    insults lie within the mental capacities of the weak. Yes, American banks funded East Asian recovery in Japan and South Korea and you could include Taiwan too post World War II due to increased American interest in the area during the Korean and Vietnam war. Even Thailand benefited from the increase of American money to the region.

    @Filbisaya That's not true, they started colonizing because they were rich. Science and industrialisation is what made Europe wealthy and of course a lot of resources came from colonies, but do you think it would have made much difference if we'd bought them? I don't think so.. Europe gave its colonies technology and created infrastructures that Asia still uses today, your economic growth is based on European initiatives. Don't get me wrong though, I'm not in favor of colonialism or imperialism.

    @banyohazard69 Yes, I totally acknowledge the fact that Europeans weren't so developed during the earlier times of human civilization. Regardless, can you respond to my assertion that Europeans were the ones who developed math from the basic, caveman knowledge of math? And in that sense, don't you think because we contributed so much to math that the Chinese, and all others, benefited from our discoveries, along with everything else? Asia had a head start, but we won the race. You're welcome.

  • @MagicalHax0r

    @selfsenter Im not talking about the West's present lead, even though the West IS in lead. Yes, of course, many nations have contributed at times when the West wasn't as developed or thriving. But, during the past 1000 years, not 200, the West has been dominating and contributed far more than any other nation during the past 200 years in new technology, ideology, and invention. The fact is, the West has really been pretty strong throughout most history. Oh, also, Greeks and Romans :)

    Just don't cry and whine about it if ever you find out it's the opposite of what you believe.
    anyway, It is pointless to argue on something specially if it is still yet to happen, if it happens it happens.
