i neverf backed the ouya or bought it when it was a thing but i bought a brown backers edition years ago and i found your video useful .. gonna set it up soon
Most people that mock the Ouya never really had one. I have two. Great for emulation from Odyssey, Atari and Vectrex up to PS1, some N64 and some Dreamcast. The OUYA didn't "deserve" better. I was there for launch, my company was pitched to make games for it. People were not hyped for it, most people knew what was going to happen. Main stream articles from back in the day don't tell the story. The OUYA was a disaster with terrible management. Julie had no idea what she was getting herself into and was way over her head. It literally serves no purpose in 2023 with what it offers. You can do everything it does better for cheaper.
@thecouchtripper maybe, but telling people to give it a chance is telling people to go spend their money on it and that's not really cool because it's garbage. It has no use so unless you are buying it for a collecting factor.
I was an android person when this came out and people were creaming their pants saying this was the future of gaming. Like I mentioned in the video, kotaku and wired were pretty meh on it but Android central were hyping this up. Clearly they couldn't manage the company properly but at the end of the day it's not as bad as people say it is but it's easy to dunk on something that had a ton of buzz and fell flat on it's face.
@@SuperNicktendo that super revisionist man c'mon. It's not easy to dunk on because the buzz fell flat, it's easy to dunk on because it's bad. It's a 10 year old android box, everything it does can be done better and cheaper on countless other hardware. I'm not hating on you, I enjoy your channel and your videos and I know you put a lot of hard work into this and it's appreciated but a lot of these collectors are very impressionable and suggesting something like this is worth picking up just isn't very cool.
@@pwnswoggle yeah I get that. And I'm talking specifically about the Kickstarter and lead up to launch. I did follow this thing from an android fanboy perspective and it was a different atmosphere on that end. Lots of evangelists over there watching tech get cheaper and more powerful thinking that eventually we'd all be gaming on Android devices now. Just outlining what people were feeling before the launch. Once it launched all the air came out of the project and the raspberry pi was there to pick up the pieces. Thanks for watching and I'm glad you appreciate the effort even if we don't see eye to eye
Man, I remember when target was dumping the system for like $30 and I still passed because I would never use it. Regret that now, would be fun to mess with
It’s an interesting piece of history for sure. The fact that it was so pro indie dev is pretty cool. If I found one for the right price, I would definitely pick it up.
Ouya really didn’t deserve better. The people who supported it are the ones that deserved better. It was a good idea, but the controller was garbage that fell apart way too easily, and those magnetic faceplates blocked the analog stick movement. Then when backers got shafted by getting it after retail launch… it earned it’s failure. It needed to fail.
The ouya is a nice little multi media and emulation machine. Basically what the Xbox One was going for but without the limitations and drms thanks to mods and jailbreaking. Still, I’d love more consoles that are that small. The PS5 and Xbox Series consoles are such a joke to me when steam deck and laptops do functionality and portability so much better. I’m hoping we’ll get back to the Wii U where I can still play the game I’m on with an iPad controller if I need to take a dump. But whatever.
Ill confess, as a kid I've always wanted this, i never got it because my mother never trusted online shopping. I eventually got one last year and i would consider it as my holy grail. Honestly seeing Razer purchasing it i hope one day the Ouya gets released again for the streaming market thay happens to play games. Obviously this won't happen but I'm free to have my fantasy
Thanks for watching - did you have an Ouya? Would you consider an Ouya after watching this video?
I was an original backer of the OUYA.

I used it mainly as an emulation box, it was pretty fun to play SNES games on it. It was also my Sonic 4 Ep1 and 2 machine for some reason.

The final nail for OUYA’s coffin was when Bernie Stolar came out of retirement to say: The OUYA’s not our future. R.I.P Bernie
Mine sits in my living room, Still works, Still runs Plex, Runs emulators.
Just play emulators on a pc or phone
@@chaikagaz or i can take a device iv owned for a decade, that still works and keep using it.
