7:50 I personally love these games with all my heart. Masterpieces. I don't care what anyone else says, they're only hated because they're just the same game with different levels. But they have so much charm, and I grew up with these games, as well. Call it bias, but hey, bias is valid, too.
I actually think they're both good games, but the reason they "left a sour taste" is because they were too similar to the Wii game. They're still good games though. The internet definitely treats them worse than they deserve.
Nice video, take this algorithm boost :) Also The Messenger is a criminally underrated video game, I’m glad you’re enjoying it and that you mentioned it in this video.
I think 2D gaming was considered old in the 2000s when 3D games were coming into their own and were considered “modern”. Then the indie movement of the 2010s happened and people both fell in love with 2D games all over again or for the first time. Seeing how good they could look with modern hardware was amazing. Now 2D games just feel like their own genres that co-exist with all the 3D open world RPGs and FPS multiplayer games of today. I love both and you’re right about how well 16 bit era games have aged. As someone who only got into Super Nintendo games in the past year (I wasn’t born yet during its heyday), SNES games have aged SO WELL. The sprite design in that era was amazing and so many games in its catalog are timeless. N64 and PS1 is a little harder to go back to, but PS2/PS3, GameCube/Wii era games are also aging very well. I think it was just the growing pains of 3D games made the first generation not age as well
It's a crime you didn't mention Super Meat Boy, it was my introduction to indie games and one of my all time favorite platformers next to DKC returns and the soundtrack, LOOOOORRRD
i think you missed out mentioning the precision platformer aspect, games like celeste, super meat boy, inside, VVVVVV, . all of these are also staples of 2d games
Not Star Allies. The levels were spaced out and uninspired compared to others. Return to Dreamland is great though, even if it's less mechanically focused than Super Star or the 3DS games.
You said that the Donkey Kong Country game is your favorite platformer of all time. If you haven't played Celeste yet, PLAY IT. Celeste is definitely my favorite platformer ever, and especially great if you like really hard games (it's hard, but you'll barely EVER get frustrated, because almost all of the deaths feel like your own fault, instead of bad level design). Also I recommend playing Hades, because it's literally my favorite roguelike EVER. Sure, it's hard but I PROMISE that it's worth beating.
Metroid Dread DEFINETLY deserved its own section, it's one of my favorite games cuz of cool graphics, abilities, boss fights, world. I just feel like it's progression is too linear and you have to follow a specific path unlike Hollow Knight. I really liked the sequence breaks tho. 5th favorite game after nsmbw, hk, botw, totk.
I played through the game and while I liked it, I just came off playing some other metroidvanias that I enjoyed more. Plus I don't have a ton of footage for the game so it would've been hard to give it its own section.
I'd also list Cuphead as an honorable mention. Sure, it's hard as heck, but the beauty of those graphics make up for it to me.
It’s not hard skill issue it took me 3 tries to S rank chef saltbaker

Especially considering precision platforming is one of the biggest strengths 2D games have over 3D games.
I play hollow knight and when the hollow knight section was playing I was just jamming to the hive knight theme
I grew up with nsmbw and it gives me so much nostalgia!!!!! Thanks for talking about it
I played it on dolphin recently.... bowser took me like an hour to beat
Guacamelee it's amazing, one of my favorites from this era.
You forgot Kirby Star Allies and Kirby Return to Dreamland
I'm no kirby fan, but I heard from fans that planet robobot is a phenomenal game.
Im a kirby fan, and u missed 2 of the best as he mentioned
Planet robobot wasnt as good as those@@WyvrnOnYT
Not Star Allies. The levels were spaced out and uninspired compared to others. Return to Dreamland is great though, even if it's less mechanically focused than Super Star or the 3DS games.
As long as games like hollow knight and Mario wonder keep coming out, I think 2d gaming will be at the same level as 3d gaming.
This is a very underrated channel

He could easily tell you the same thing though. Play Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze
@@mhm2278 I don't have any Nintendo device and I'm not planning to buy one for one or two games.
2D Gaming Will NEVER Die - Here’s Why
I've never heard about that prince of persia game before
I wonder if they'll ever make megaman zero 5 😢
Honestly 2d games are better cuz they don't have so many issues with optimization and characters clipping into stuff
Whenever I play 3d games I feel like there are a ton of bugs that take away from immersion. We're as I've seen almost "perfect" 2d games
To me 2d games are harder than 3d game because you can not move around so much if you want to dodge attacks (this is only my opinion)
But 2d games are not bad they are good but only harder
number one for me is celeste
Agreed

for the average player, elder can be a pretty forgettable boss fight
but DEFINITELY NOT forgettable in the pantheon speedrunning community
Every point: valid. 10/10 vid.

if mario wonder is anything to go by, your point will be uncontested, this video doesn't need to really exist tbh
This video’s gonna be great
When's the video on 1d games?
💀
You know that thing they have at carnivals and stuff where you gotta roll a ball just fast enough make it not come back to you
So what’s your opinion on 4d games
If i made a challenging 2d adventure game where u fight your way to the final boss and u can play with your friends... would u all play it?
Hi, I think blind of the forest is better. do you have reasons for why will of the wisp is better?
The combat
hades hades hades hades hades best 2d isometric perspective(fake 3d game), incredible art style, relatively easy roguelite and its a great game
Celeste is amazing
Celeste🫡
Great video, but absence of Celeste is upset me a little. It definetly deserves to be called "one of the best 2D games" too.
Celeste is listed as an honorable mention 14:17. I haven't played the game so it would have been impossible to talk about it.
@@WyvrnOnYT Not playing Celeste is a problem you need to rectify as soon as possible.
Actually heroes 3 and factorio is 2d gams
2D is 2D, and 3D is 3D, and i am 4D
Whar😮
I meant what😮
No Blasphemous? 😢
I Played through blasphemous and I thought it was decent, but not on the same level as these games.
Hollow knight is the greatest video game of all time. Change my mind.🐜
I can’t but I have a whole list on why it is the greatest game of all time 💀
It's a one of a kind game, but these past 40 years have given us hundreds of masterpieces. I have played a lot of games I would choose over it.
It was the first metroidvania I played so probably some bias there…
Rdr2.
MAN GO PLAY RAINWORLD
its always ignorant people
