Sleeping in airports is a great way to save money. I've done it on numerous occasions!

Another good one. Sadly many foreign airlines don't have the regulations for the protection of the passengers if something goes wrong, hence the no hotel attitude!?

$10 per day was cheap for a car anywhere in the world. Hope the car has ac. In the US, I found the cheapest cars thru Payless and stumbled into them in Hawaii. Later took the. In NJ and other places here. The cars were not brand new same year models but none the less cheap, and when u r traveling on a budget, it feels great when u get a deal unexpectedly. Safe travels in South Africa.

In 2012 I got an air-conditioned private room at a hostel in a Nairobi for probably $15. It’s Africa. It's cheap.

THIS is the reason why I would NEVER book with a smaller company. Reliability is a big thing for me when traveling. I hope you are writing a letter to KA Corp HQ letting them know your displeasure and what you went through as they might offer you some free tickets or something.

Omg this happened once when we went to Hong Kong, we got stuck because a delay lead to a missed flight. At least they paid for our airport hotel, but since no restaurants were open and we couldnt leave the airport we had goldfish for dinner

If it was Kenya airlines that off loaded you due to overbooking ( common event) and your onward journey was on Kenya airlines , they have to pay for a hotel for you under the condition of carriage policy ......

Great clog but I can tell you this: Kenya Airways is much better that most local American Airlines.
A Munyamulenge+ Let's not exaggerate. I once had to fly from Mombasa to Nairobi but took the train because one of the planes servicing this route crash landed. The train ride was fantastic. In my experience, the worst Airline I took was Air Sudan from Cairo to Port Sudan. The flight was 36 hrs late and they put us in probably the cheapest Hotel in Cairo and pairing the voyagers in the same rooms. Finally flew out and found that the inner bulkhead in the plane was cracked from floor to ceiling and someone was smuggling whiskey in the washroom garbage bin. Aah the good old days!!
Nairobi is not expensive trust me!!! You should visit Luanda Angola and you will see what I mean!!

$10 dollars a day for a rental car? No way...They're $30 in Nairobbery;)
They do have better roads in SA so I can imagine it's cheaper to maintain and run a fleet of small tiny mini cars. In Kenya the roads are only good in the urban areas. But that's not where tourists want to go. Tourists have better ideas. Ideas that are never good for the maintenance bill.
I know I’m seeing this 4 yrs later...and I know Nate is ok....but I’ve noticed Nate gets very slurred speech a lot and that’s very concerning bc of his age....keep a check on u both...health over everything else...
