Wow! A WTA player with a single-handed backhand!! And young Diane Parry's got a fabulous game, too. Like others have said, any player (especially female as it's so rare to see) with a single-handed backhand has my backing. 100%. Well done, Miss Parry.

No, I don' t think it is a surprise, Krejcikova has not played a match for almost 3 months, she has not played a single clay court event leading up to the defense of this title. I am surprised that she did not even play the Strasbourg event just to get at least some feel for tournament play.

Sometimes its better not to play a slam if you are not ready. Thats if you KNOW you are not ready, otherwise take a chance if you can digest the criticism. It's unfortunate for Barbora as she simply was not match-fit having not played for 3 months due to injury. I think its quite noble of her to have competed at Roland Garros this year given that she didn't play the entire clay swing, and she herself said she had no expectations to win because of her injury lay off. Good job on Parry though.
