    The body of US Commerce Secretary Ron Brown has been returned to the department he ran for three years.
    Brown's coffin was taken to the Commerce Department's Washington headquarters in a service attended by Vice-President Al Gore and Brown's family and friends.
    The closed casket will remain on public view for 24 hours before Wednesday's funeral.
    Ron Brown and 34 others were killed in a plane crash in Croatia on April 3.
    Amid driving rain, Ron Brown's grieving family were comforted at the Commerce Department by U-S Vice-President Al Gore.
    Ron Brown was making a final visit to the Commerce Department he ran for three years.
    Gore and Brown's widow, Alma, looked on as a Navy band played "Nearer My God To Thee".
    Eight military pallbearers slowly carried Ron Brown's coffin down a red carpet and in to the building.
    Brown was killed with 34 others when his plane crashed in Croatia last week. He was leading a trade mission with the aim of helping to rebuild the war-torn country.
    A public celebration of Brown's life is planned for Tuesday night at a Baptist Church in Washington.
    His funeral is due to take place on Wednesday in Washington National Cathedral, where President Clinton will deliver the eulogy.
    Brown, an Army veteran, will be buried in Arlington National Cemetery.
