He is actually pretty well written character. He even might be the best written character of the whole series. Maybe it stays that way because he doesn't need to be in every episode. His true character/personality doesn't change and he knows have to game the system or how to make deals... While he still always is an opportunistic type of criminal. The gore of his character stays as: If you going to be in forever, why not try to be out ever opportunity you can get? And for writers, that seems to be surprisingly fun and easy core to write with, because they haven't change it. (Saying this will I have not watched the episodes in 6th season, so they might have ruined his character in that season.)
43:17 Many of the officers who trained or mentored me told me much the same thing. For better or worse, policing back in the 80s and 90s was a different era. A story that will always stick out to me is from a retired officer during his FTO phase. He said he was on his 6th month of FTO, the last month for police in my area, and him and his FTO were sitting in the parking lot of a park just talking. At some point, training officer says that he sees a known drug dealer hanging out at the other end of the park. A dealer who was known for selling to young kids and teens. The rookie was in the driver seat, so FTO tells him to pull up beside the guy (he was on a sidewalk by this point). After they pull up, FTO starts talking to the dealer and basically tells him to leave and that he doesn’t want to see him back in the area again. After a few minutes of bickering back-and-forth and realizing that they’re not gonna get anywhere just by talking to him, FTO tells the guy to lean in close because he wants to tell him something that nobody else can hear. Then, without warning, training officer grabs the dealer by a fistful of his big, thick curly hair, and then looks over at the rookie, and tells him to put the car in neutral. As the car is rolling along at about 2 or 3 miles an hour, the TO, who is still holding onto the guys hair, tells the dealer that he has 10 seconds to agree that he’ll never come back to the area again or he’ll make the rookie put the car in drive and “take his ass for a spin”. After that day, the guy was never seen that area of town again. The, again, now retired officer telling me the story said that to this day he’s not really sure how to feel about what happened. On one hand, it did get pretty good results, but on the other, it was a pretty egregious abuse of power.
@@OnlyCops If you haven't, check out NYPD Blue for some serious interrogation beatdowns by detectives. These are portrayed as good police work, the hero protagonist is the most aggressive. The latter seasons are currently on youtube, in 2-3 hour episodic groups. (As is Hill Street Blues, which is police officers.).
Realistically if those "militia" dudes were walking around in urban California, PD would hold them all at gun point and arrest them for open carry. Then from the looks of the rifles and mags Cal DOJ would throw the book at them for having "assault weapons" and "high capacity" magazines
Here in Canada the rules for self-defense are a lot stricter than in most US states, but even so I understood them to apply to personal property. Even aside from the weapons issues, would an unofficial militia really be able to just wander the streets "defending their neighbourhood"? -- Although the one thing I liked about that is that he told the police to check the guy's papers. He might be a racist AH, but at least he knew that he couldn't force the guy to show ID.

Some random Rookie Trivia, that now that I know I can't unsee: the actor playing Bradford consistently wore a vest when in uniform. The other actors apparently didn't as they thought it made them look too bulky or they just found them too uncomfortable. Since the general audience (like me) wouldn't even notice something like that, as the vest is worn under the uniform shirt and therefore is basically not noticeable, I thought that was pretty cool. @@OnlyCops He is probably the best written character in the whole series. While being funny, he is realistic person, and that core "If you going to be in forever, why not try to be out ever opportunity you can get?" stays the same. Those are actually compliments, and I'm saying this while knowing he is a bad guy. But the writing done for him is just that good... And quite realistic.

18:00 Tampons were designed in WW1 to plug the gun wounds. Only later it was discovered they have potential other uses, so tampons are not that unreasonable
Would love to see your reactions to a best / worst of smitty video. California Penal Code Section 372, also known as PC 372, is a misdemeanor statute that makes it illegal to create or maintain a public nuisance. A public nuisance is defined as something that affects a community or neighborhood, or a large group of people.

When I was a kid, we were poor. Ghetto poor. But there was a lot of us and the families watched out for each other, took care of each other. If one person got their water turned off, the neighbors let them use their water. If one person had no electricity, a neighbor would run an extension cord to their kitchen window to keep the fridge running. Everybody was wearing everybody's older siblings clothes, feeding each other's kids, and babysitting each others' kids. And there were gang members on our street. But they didn't mess with us, especially during the day when kids were out. Nowadays, I see so much lazy criminals. They steal off porches or break into cars or shop lift but you can see in the ring camera or security videos that they're wearing the latest stylish clothes, holding the newest iphone, driving a fancy brand new car. That isn't poverty. That's lazy and entitled.

@@OnlyCopsoh you’re not ready
@@OnlyCopshe’s still going strong in season 6
@@OnlyCops He is probably the best written character in the whole series. While being funny, he is realistic person, and that core "If you going to be in forever, why not try to be out ever opportunity you can get?" stays the same. He knows he is career criminal, not trying to even claim otherwise, and uses every opportunity he can get - while knowing when not to take things too far and what side is the best choice for his survival.
Those are actually compliments, and I'm saying this while knowing he is a bad guy. But the writing done for him is just that good... And quite realistic.
LAPD Code 6 means Investigating I believe
Makes sense
They met Oscar!!!! Cool guy is not really the word I would describe him 🤣
The dude is definitely a criminal 🤣 but he's still at least personable
I assumed they meant "cool" as in cool-tempered and relaxed, not as someone they want to kick back and have a beer with.
You are right. People confuse empathy and sympathy. ❤
ALL THE TIME!
Oscar is a good character. It might stab you in gut and maybe maybe make you go Westley. 😂
I am excited to see more about it
Great Video, as always. Keep it up 🔥
Thank you 🥰
I know its pretty late in the season but it would be really fun to see yall reaction to episode 4 (the switch) and see officer worst with bradford
Oh no 😁
17:24 - please tell me you did not just use “irregardless” without even a touch of sarcasm or irony…i’m totally questioning this whole channel…lol
I have dyslexia 😭
As a Canadian Christian I'm horrified to learn that there's armed church groups for any purpose...what the heck???!!!
Yeah, it's really sad when churches have to worry about people harming them for worshiping God. It happens in a lot of different countries where Christianity is being vilified
... In the US Perhaps a better name would be "armed cults" . Regardless of the faith they claim to be, they are not.
We need more!
More are incoming!
0:55 as someone with 12 years of live acting experience (classes, small productions, etc) I’d carry the entire thing, they might even actually use the promo video (as long as my fellow rookies didn’t screw up😅) like I’d actually have fun recording that!
They really should just let actors do promotional stuff like this for recruitment/community out reach videos. They would come out WAY better!
I just love this videos sm 🙏
We love that you love them!
I'm curious, did you see episode 11 of this season, Redwood. If not, I'm curious what your reaction would be and how accurate some of the procedure was in that episode for what happened with Lucy.
The Rookie is already starting to get into pretty muddy water as far as events, but I'm always surprised at how many random small things they get right
"Why are they not coming from federal prison?" They are. USP Victorville. The only thing wrong is it wouldn't be LASD doing the transport. It would be BOP or Marshals.
That makes more sense
18:00 Tampons were designed in WW1 to plug the gun wounds. Only later it was discovered they have potential other uses, so tampons are not that unreasonable
Like a lot of things that came out of WW1, life saving devices have gotten much better since then 😅
Would love to see your reactions to a best / worst of smitty video.
He's lazy, not corrupt, enforces the law with the light hand on the downtrodden, is extremely aware of police politics, and had not drawn his gun ever until like the 3rd or 4th season. Yet in that situation he was instantly ready and packed up his partner.
We will see if we can find a compilation 😊
Just love oscar. Hopefully they never kill him off. 😂😂
Spoilers! 🤣
@@OnlyCops i didnt say he got killed. Im hoping he doesnt get killed. 😜
1:09:00 I think that's my favorite line from the show.
It's pretty solid
You should listen to Sargent grey. He said they already had a perimeter set. They were meeting to discuss tactics within the perimeter already set.
Who had set the barrier? I'm guessing off screen officers?
California Penal Code Section 372, also known as PC 372, is a misdemeanor statute that makes it illegal to create or maintain a public nuisance. A public nuisance is defined as something that affects a community or neighborhood, or a large group of people.
Thank you for the excerpt!
At 1:00:23 when you said he’d get shot instantly he would of fell back and pulled the string and I don’t think there is a safety on that gun so the only thing that could of worked would be to cut the string so I guess yes you did think right one one of those thoughts
I am a newer viewer to your channel, how long were you guys police in Texas?
4 years (2017-2021) in Arlington TX
@@OnlyCops cool 👍
You guys should watch season 2 episode 11 d.o.d but love the content and keep up the great work.❤
We have a bunch more we just filmed and they should be going live soon!
Have they done the episode when Lucy Chen was buried??
Not yet! But we are on our way!
Oh okay thanks. Can't wait
it’s s2 e10+11
It's is definitely overall a different culture in every strata of society unfortunately. And most not for the better
I'm only 29 but I've noticed just how unbelievably selfish society has become, in individuals, in cultures, in corporations and businesses and even governments.
I'm curious to know if narcissistic personality disorder is on the rise or something
@@amandasnider2644 when you grow up in a time when the media keeps telling you that you are special and deserve to have everything you want just because you exist, many will start to believe it. I don't know if that's programming or narcissism but it's not good for those who fall for it on any level.
Season 6 just ended last week and season 7 wont be out until January of 2025.
We have time to catch up!
@@OnlyCops yeah. Also im trying to become a police officer in my state. Either a deputy sheriff or state trooper
What is the line between citizens arrest and kidnapping?
Nothing but have a legal reason to do it 🤣
correct me if im wrong but wouldnt they call the US Marshal service once the escaprd
It would be if they couldn't apprehend the escapee right way. Then that would either lean on county, state, or federal agencies for assistance
I request y'all react to a CSI Miami episode just to drive Bill insane
🤣🤣🤣 thanks for the suggestion lol
You guys are good!!! Also SPOILER ALERT! But it makes me so sad whenever you guys reference Chenford😭😭 My heart breaks every single time!!
😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
I'm arresting the guy in the red hat for false imprisonment. No questions asked.
1000%
30:57 Shocking that guy is wearing a red hat
🤣🤣🤣 they definitely are trying to make a statement there
You NEED to do smth in season six, the realism drops like crazy
Oh no 😅 it's already pretty far from a realistic depiction as is 🤣
Going to foreign countries and helicopters…yeah, Rookie is going there
Oh no 🤣
"The Rookie: Special Ops coming to ABC fall 2025" 😄
In addition to everything else you mentioned, it’s heavily implied by the remarks about papers that the “militia” who arrested the yard guy did it because he was Hispanic. Which in Cali would qualify all of those charges for enhanced sentencing.
I definitely would have charged those guys for at the very minimum false imprisonment if not kidnapping!
1:08 am I wrong, for wanting to kick their teeth in?
5:07 What happens if you shoot her hand?? Will a 9mm or a 45 cut the connection with the switch?
5:33 "I can only imagine your pain as I know how painfully cheesy these scripts are/ I can understand the pain your feeling.I've been married too(think of the torture scene in hot shots 2)
Guys I'm curious. Doesn't usually captains.have better things to do than run around in uniform on crime scenes? Shouldn't they be buried in paperwork or something??
This CPT here seem to have waay to much spare time, for someone in his position.
15:45 yes Nolan. That's the way to save him.
The dude has lost both(?) his legs at the knee and is about to bleed out. But you take your sweet time. Check his pulse while you call it in no hurry. No need to put a tourniquet on it,it's not like his bleeding to death in front of you.
I'm no medic. But aren't you supposed to stop the bleeding before you do anything else?
???
Why always the cliche :Tell her i love her.....Or tell them..
Wouldn't it be much more fun and realistic if they said.:Tell my wife...She ain't ..Gonna inherit ..Shit. I ..given.. it all ...to ...welfare.! Or..Tell ..My..wife..Her twin sister..Was.. better.... in.. the..sack
OR ..Tell..My..Wife.. That she gives... lousy head....Way..Too..Much..Teeth..Uuh!
18:48 How the hell do you sneak up on someone in the bush like that. I mean he should've heard him coming from a mile away. Clothes brushing against everything brush and tree. Also wearing a jumpsuit, means the pants legs will be touching each other all the time(Unless you walk like John wayne) that makes a lot of noise. Not the most silent thing
to sneak up on someone in
(HOA Arming them self? DAMN!! thats like giving Nazies the nuke. Here guys go have fun.
BTW Guys.Who would you rather face off against, Armed Junkie or a HOA member?)
Never understood the whole I'm gonna shoot you in the face.Line. I 9mm in the face, at that range. Would hold At least 70'% chance of being lethal. And If Not there's a big chance he'll probably sue. Unless He is vegetable.
Jails will often have contracts with the feds to house inmates for them
I didn't know that! Very interesting
@@OnlyCops yep, usually it's because they have an ongoing trail within the county they're being housed in
I really want to see their reaction and opinions to Commander West scolding Nyla Harper in Season 3
I am looking forward to doing more episodes
we need the next ep
Juan is back and should be back on the grind soon!
@@OnlyCops yesssssssssssss
44:46 unfortunately, poverty is a vicious cycle, so that is, without a doubt, a great take.
It was definitely the reality where we worked. I grew up poor and understood how much even $20 could ruin your budget
Hello, can you do the last part of season 5 about officer juarez and thorsen from the rookie? I love you guys❤
We are trying to do the whole show in order of episodes 😅 we will get there eventually I promise 😊
Thx, you guy are the best!! From the Netherlands @@OnlyCops
Thank you so much for the support from across the pond! We need to do a European trip one of these days!
Needed to interject The Fugitive/ U.S. Marshals for the perimeter search
🤣 maybe
Great video love watching all your different content
You should review a tv series called swat
do the following episode where he rebels against his dad
It's in the pile line 😊
40:40 SPOILERS
OH boy will we 😂
😮
CSI Miami 🤣
We will consider it 🤣
5:41 Of course he does. Y’all are going to see from now on Nolan hooking up with amazing beautiful 🤩 women. It’s like Nolan invented the game. 😎😎😎 5:41
🤣
Come on! You guys could do CIS Miami as at least next April Fools prank. xD
Hype it up before the April that you guys are going to watch some awesome cop show and then when the day comes... You watch CIS Miami clips while wearing sunglasses (maybe some suits on). And try to act all serious about it.
Now wr might have to 🤣
Should check out Flashpoint
It has been one of the top asked for shows!
27:55 "training or organization that you are at least good at seeing and reporting suspicious behaviour"
So... the very definition of an HOA?
What an HOA would consider suspicious and what the law would are VERY different things 🤣
The suspicious behavior of my grass being 1/4” too long.
Hello I was wondering if you can do a review on the acorn cop please!
We did cover that call 🤣🤣🤣
Which season& episode is this? I've watched the rookie too much I've kinda forgotten, and the series has had quite a few "manhunts" lately
I think this is either the last episode of season 1 or the first of season 2
Not even close, it is episode 15 of season 1. It is when we meet Oscar!!!
@@shannonLR80 Oscar was mine and my dad's favourite character when we watched the rookie 🤣 can't wait
@@poseidon808 definitely one of my favorite minor characters it’s between him and Smitty!
@@shannonLR80 Oh yes absolutely, Smitty and Oscar are absolutely fantastic
« What if it’s not his wife » 💀
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
There was a possibility it wasn't 😅
@@OnlyCops true 😂😂 ☠️
In my first aid certification the teacher had explained how when she was in war and one of her partners was shot all she had was tampons 😂😂😂 he was mortified but she saved his life interesting in a tampon. They were also first made for gun shot wounds fun fact. In other words carry tampons 😂
🤣🤣🤣 well carry first aid equipment, but Tampons are solid and multi-role capable devices lol
@@OnlyCops in all fairness they were under attack and all she had on her was a tampon 😂
5 minutes and they can be a mile away. Am I hunting an Olympian here geez?
They typically get to a bike or a car pretty quickly 🤣🤣🤣 but yes if it was on foot maybe not that far lol
Try Brooklyn 99 just for kicks ang giggles 😂
We did record an episode of Brooklyn 99 😁
Are you sure a belt is better than nothing? I remember somebody talking about how a belt is actually worse? Something about it putting pressure but not in the right way since you can't tighten it enough?
Also about Nolan, when he called for an ambulance, why did not a single other officer come to assist him or maybe to bring a medical bag? xD
I also love how the Rookies look way more confident than the TO and other experienced officers xD (the perimiter briefing thing)
Also would really the LAPD be searching for the fugitives alone? Wouldn't some sort of Corrections/Prison whatever the local prison people are called(Well yeah you mentioned the SD/SO and HP)?
Also the neighbourghood scene, would the SWAT operators really just be running down the street like that or would they more probably, pretty much Leeroy Jenkins it with a bearcat and hop out? xD
The Leeroy Jenkins part of this comment made my day 🤣🤣🤣
Oscar is a bad guy, allright, but I like him. Not a guy you want to have around, but a fun guy you hear stories about.
🤣🤣🤣🤣 sounds like quite a character
