雄风 refers to a dominating aura that is now mostly used to describe the inner strength displayed by people, groups, countries, etc that 'subdues' you and incites awe.
(Also, a note about the flags; I saw the list of countries that participated in the 1990 Asian Games and quite a few went through changes so I just went with the UN list of countries. Originally wanted to arrange the flags in some way, but the moment I saw them my brain went 'oooh colours!' and now here we are.)

高昂 can literally mean 'raised high', but it can also refer to high-spirited and noble in the way that.... it's like the person sees further and is noble in spirit/thinking rather than say wealth or bloodline.
的 has different pronunciations depending on context and in this case 'de' was changed to 'di' (mostly happens in some older songs). This may be to help with the tune or to assist the singer, but I just changed it based on what I heard the singers pronounce it as.

根连根 is literally 'root connected/intertwined with root' and refers to the roots of plants being connected with each other. It is a metaphor for the relationship between brothers and sisters. Comes from the poem 连理诗 (Southern Dynasty).
