😂 I just today asked my apartment maintenance to tighten my closet door, which has a lock on it. He said I can't, because you can't get to screws. He says, wait till it falls off and I'll replace it. Thanks for video, I just tightened it.
Thank you for doing this video. I have the same type of door system and was trying to figure out how to tighten the unit up as it was loose. Your method worked just like a charm. 😀
Thank you so much for the video!! My husband has been thinking about fixing the door handle for a few months. I just got tired of waiting for him and did it myself!
Thank you so much. The other lock/handle videos only showed locks where the screws very easily accessible. Your video was relevant to my type kwikset with the hidden release.
I've been fiddling with my door knob for weeks before looking online. 3 minutes after watching this and the door knob was back in business. Thank you very much!
Glad I found your video. This is best tip I have seen to tighten a loose doorknob with good details and precision. My door is now completed New. Thanks! :)
I second that. I kept trying to figure out where and how to get to the screws also what those arrows were refering to. Thank you for showing the world. It made it easy to tighten the two screws. Thank you again.
Thanks man, you save me a lot of time. It was really not obvious how to fix this, and I didn't have any paper instructions. God bless the search engine of RUclips 😂
Sooooo that is what that thingy on the side is for....I saw that part but didn't put 2 & 2 together, I watched your video & WALA, the door knob is tight again.... "Thank You Mr. Hardware Man"
Look for a slot or a hole on the handle shaft on the inside door knob. You depress in that hole and there’ll be a little keeper bar and when you push in the handle will snap off giving access to the screws.
Just to add a bit, in case it helps someone else - I had a loose "Kwikset lever handle" set up & checked this video first. Was just looking for quick possibilities w/o trying to match set up carefully. The lever handle type uses a different mechanism - a fairly common "hex key" (aka "Allen wrench") mechanism for capture / release. I didn't realize / recognize it, at first, and ended up consulting another video among the first search hits. FYI - some handles, knobs, etc. may have a small hole in the side / 'stem' with a hex ('socket cap') screw or something like that. On the handle I had to fix, it required a 3/32" hex key / Allen wrench & that information was in the title of relevant results. Though not directly relevant to the handle I fixed, still very much appreciate this video & the efforts of all those out there making this kind of info easier to find, visualize, etc. Thanks "Mr. Hardware"! _Edit: ah, I see you mentioned this, Mr. Hardware, in a reply to someone else who asked about the lever type - didn't see that comment previously. Apologies for missing that. I'll leave this comment anyway in case someone else is stumbling around in a "get it the heck done"_ fit _like I was & misses other relevant info / comments._
I have kwikset with a completely different setup. I had to use an allen-head wrench unfortunately when these things come loose the access to the allen-head wrench is at an angle [BAD DESIGN!] and it can be difficult to get the wrench in at the right place to get it out. For this reason apparently, one of my set screws is monkeyed up and I had to improvise to get it out. After getting the set-screw out (note they are reverse-threaded!!!), I pulled off the cover and reset the tensioning screws. Put everything back together with a prayer- these are not the nicest door-handle mechanisms I've seen to be sure. With the information in the video it ws close enough I could guess how the rest worked. Next time I build a house I'll look for something nicer than Kwikset I s'pose. Best.
Great video! I am desperately trying to find out which Kwikset door knob that is that you show being tightened up? I love the way the plate screws into the door, it helps to keep the knob centered. I have searched and searched and cannot find that exact knob attachment method. I'm hoping you can steer me in the right direction for my door knob search. Thanks in advance for any info you can provide.
I believe Kwikset quit manufacturing that door knob because I’ll bet so many people returned it for a full credit because they couldn’t figure it out. It’s a clean system but not easily figured out.
No we don’t but I have two things for you to do. One, open the door and try the key in the lock, if the key operate the bolt operate properly then it is because the door has shifted and the bolt connect going to the jamb is out of alignment. If it still won’t turn when you have the door open, you remove the cylinder from the door and you try operating the bolt using a screwdriver inside the bolt. And you can find out if the problem is mechanical there. While the lock is out of the door you could try the key in it then.
I cANT find the answer anywhere online for my lock ... so frustratiing... mine is loose where the handle goes through the rose... seperate pieces... doesnt matter how tight the other screws are
You need to see if the handle has a release slot or hole in the handle. Push in on the dent and pull on the handle at the same time once the handle is off then the rose should be easier to remove. If you’re still having a question see if the manufacturer is stamped in the backseat on the edge of the door and I bet I could answer your question more fully.
@@oliviapapitto3124 could be that you have the type of handle that has either a small hole or a small slot in the inside knob stem, (it’s sometimes hard to find). You insert a small screwdriver or sometimes a heavy paperclip to push in on the retainer and pull the handle it the same time, and once the handle slides off, then the brass rose will snap off and the screws will then be exposed.

add that to your resume, you can now be a handiman
THANK YOU nobody has an installation video for that door knob

Only took a few minutes to fix thanks to your clear instructions. Never would have figured it out.

Thank you so much! But whoever filmed that was moving the camera so much that I was seasick after it was done!!

Thanks! My loose doorknob was a little different, but this video helped me find my way to the same solution.
Thank you. I fixed it after living with it loose for years! And straight to the demo without too much chatter.
You saved the day. I followed your instructions and BAM! No need to call the handyman...
thanks for this video as i was very frustrated on removing my doorknob without pin!!
MR. HARDWARE! YOU ARE A LIFESAVER!!
How many times I could have used that information! Thank you!
Thank you. This helped me tighten up a door knob that has been driving me crazy for months!
This is a awesome hardware store. Kept my house on Avalon ship shape when I lived in Sainte Clair shores back in the 90s.
Thanks man, you save me a lot of time. It was really not obvious how to fix this, and I didn't have any paper instructions. God bless the search engine of RUclips 😂
Thank you - super easy to understand and got my loose doorknob fixed!
So happy we found this! Back to the hardware store to return a new doorknob because you showed us how to fix it! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️thank you!!!

Wonderful; thank you!
Easy to follow video thank you
Cool. Thank you so much! Kevin
So close but our goofy doorknobs don’t have that arrow switch. What else could I look for to access screws?

You baller, this needs to become The Door Knob Video.

Love it! Thanks.
Solve my problem...thanks

Not the same as my quickset...no arrows
Good information! Is there a video for a exterior door lock being so tight I can’t turn the key?

loosen screws inside of set...
I cANT find the answer anywhere online for my lock ... so frustratiing... mine is loose where the handle goes through the rose... seperate pieces... doesnt matter how tight the other screws are
We're both suffering from the same predicament.
Does that work for the levers as well?
I don’t think I’ve seen this hidden release on the lever lock. Quickset lever locks usually use a small Allen wrench to release the handle.
I keep seeing the same door knob, that isn't the one I have. Loosen the rose, no arrow.
Could be your handle has a notch in the stem that you push in to remove the handle and then the rose will come off.
@@MrHardware1 I found it. It was a Dexter door handle. Push down on the detent an it comes off. Thank you for the reply.
I have a knob with no screws. I found the indent and got one side off but the other side won’t come off. HELP

Mine doesn’t have that release lever just two little holes with no feel or sight of a release. How do I get this thing off?
If you email a picture of the knob, or two, to blair@Mrhardware.com. I will take a look at it and advise.
I do not have an arrow. Now what ? Help please

Boycott kwikset at all costs!
Why?
Your camera moves too much.
Thank you!
