I didn’t know Tui wrote darkstalker based off her abusive ex. It sucks she had an abusive ex, but thankfully she’s out of that situation now. Good to know though, I hope people don’t further glorify Darkstalker’s actions

I think the sheer number of Darkstalker sympathisers is a symptom of a bigger issue, people seem to have this idea that the only kind of villain are the pure evil ones, and anyone else is just a poor wittle baby who’s totally fine bc they had “good intentions” and/or were wronged by who they want to hurt. Mapleshade suffers from the same issue. Villains can be complex - and imo they should be - but they’re still villains for a reason.
Darkstalker's complexity not only stems from the fact that his inspiration comes from Tui's actual ex, but he also has a lot, in my opinion, and I mean A LOT of similarities to soemone like Adolf Hitler in terms of behavior, backstory and psychology. People being Darkstalker sympathisers would be akin to people supporting Hitler, and that is not moral at all. Sure Darkstalker was abused in his childhood, experienced war (didn't really fight but the war between NightWings and IceWings fueled his hatred for the IceWings, added with his own father's abuse), wanted to try his best for his friends keeping them safe and all. I am a strong believer of behaviorism and as such everything experienced by him in his life built him as he is today. That doesn't make him good or worthy of pity, he's still a villain. However not only does it mark him as a bad person, but also sheds light on the issues of the world around him. For me, dealing with someone bad isn't solely punishing them and either leave them be after or destroy them (psychologically or physically), but it's also finding the issues in society and fixing them. A villain isn't born, it's built by the world around them. People sympathizing for villains do see that but instead they are passive to the issues of society, and will see in those villains someone relatable... perhaps themselves becoming villains. The WoF community has many very dangerous controversies like this, and something has to be done to combat those...

Tbh I could feel that vibe from Darkstalker 100%. And that fake Clearsight thing was soooo creepy. "Bring Clearsight back from the dead? No. That'd be weird" -Darkstalker while enchanting the Nightwing he'd given super high rank to become the dragon he loved at just the right moment. ALSO, watching you paint that _AMAZING PAINTING_ all the way through without saving even one time was wild.
You know who Darkstalker reminds me of? Jason Dean from Heathers. They both have some comedic lines, are manipulative to their love interests, are adored and defended by their fanbase & they both have parental issues. The only difference is that Darkstalker is a 2000 year old dragon with magical abilities while Jason Dean is just some high schooler.
I love darkstalkers villan ark. Its so much more of a realistic villan. I do wish we could get a book that explains more on albatrosses ark and how he was driven insain. The book assumes that its the animus magic that makes you lose you're soul but I think its much deeper then that!
Oh it wasn't really the power I don't remember the queen of seawings back then but she used him like a tool and If I remember correctly the queen wanted to replace him with fathom because of his younger vision so I believe that what broke him, just replaced and also the trauma of what he accidentally did to his sister ? I totally agree with you as well- Albatross had to have a reason to do that, and what he did to his sister of Fathom taking his place. Maybe he had beef with the queen? Who knows. (I haven't read Darkstalker in a while so I don't remember that well it lol)

i think that animus magic makes you go insane is just a myth. it's the dragons own decisions that turn them evil. like how darkstalker made something for himself so that his soul wouldn't turn evil from him using his animus magic but in darkness of dragons qibli used that enchanted hour glass on darkstalker and that showed that he was almost completely evil even though he made it so that animus magic couldn't hurt his soul. and fathom and turtle both used animus magic but neither of them even started to get even the slightest bit more aggressive to anyone.
I was listening to the jade mountain academy audio book of Talons of Power and I realized he also was blame shifting when he says to what he thinks is Clearsight “You should have to help fix this. Do you see what you did when you betrayed me? It’s all gone - our tribe’s power, our kingdom. Our beautiful future. You did this to our whole tribe, not just to me.” when he was the reason the nightwings where afraid of him
I like Darkstalker for how well he was written, not for who he is. I absolutely despise him otherwise. Even right from the beginning when he was hatching everything about him screamed crEEEEPY

After I read Darkstalker a couple months ago, (thank you, person from school who let me borrow theirs), I was able to better understand what happened to Darkstalker to make him the way he is. The thing is, from HATCHING, he could tell his mother was so much better than his father, who loved Whiteout better than him. Arctic only loved Whiteout because she was more IceWing than DS, which is said in the books. One thing I’d like to know furthermore is- why? Whiteout still is part NightWing, so why bother favoring her over his son? Speaking of Whiteout, I notice that DS is actually nicer to Whiteout, although it was horrible, the way he had her watch him tear their father apart. Literally.

FINALLY SOMEONE SAID IT! There are literally so many major red flags in Darkstalker's character; he actively *chose* not to help Whiteout hatch out of her egg and attain moonlight powers because he didn't want competition, he manipulates his closest friends and justifies his actions by claiming it's for a "wonderful future," even if they had to be dragged into it kicking and screaming, and during the Jade Mountain Arc, he lied to Moon and the others every chance he got. Not to mention Clearsight, who *loved him,* said she was terrified of him and told Listener the future of Darkstalker *killing her* was a huge possibility. All that on top of Darkstalker initially planning to hurt or even kill Turtle before Turtle casted his invisibility spell, and Stomemover sensing Darkstalker overtaking his talons: "My talons are gone. These are monsters crawling out of the earth and they will rend the sky and crush the wings of small dragons and I can't let them I won't I won't I won't let them be used again!" Darkstalker doesn't see other dragons as dragons. He is a dangerous narcissist who never would have realized the error in his ways because he believed he did nothing wrong. Killing his father? Justified; after all, Arctic is *soo* much worse. Using his spells to tamper with the minds of others? He just wanted to make them *happy!* Everyone shits on Darkness of Dragons for it's ending, but I truly think it was the most realistic way to defeat him. He was so inflated by his ego all it took was one strawberry.

I was actually in the process of making a very similar video to this! Honestly it's hard for me to reread the Jade Mountain Ark because seeing his abuse and knowing how many people excuse it makes me feel sick. It's really gross and disturbing to say the least and I really wish we as a fandom didn't excuse his actions as much as we do. This was an amazing video and you made great points ^^
I agree with you that his motive doesn't excuse his actions ok he did bad stuff he was bad but what I want to believe is that he could be better if he lived with loving family because Everytime he came home it was always fights and his father pretty much disliked him I love him as villain but I don't see any reason to justify his actions
Agreed. Re-reading book 6 hits so different once you've read the prequal and realize how similar his interactions with Moon are to those between him and Clearsight. Especially since it's clear that, while he might have had regrets once, he doesn't any more, he's perfected his craft.

As a manipulator I can confirm gaslighting and love bombing is manipulation. Perhaps the reason they thought love bombing wasnt manipulation stena from the fact many manipulators DONT KNOW that they are manipulative or try to deny it to themselves. You say you're confused about why Darkstalker would let Moon hear the "and you can help me". I think we can boil that down to a tactic of grooming, in this case emotional grooming. "You can help me" in tandem with jokes about how pathetic Moon is, tells Moon that Darkstalker sees her potential. He appeals to her good nature and her desire to have friends. "You can help me" tells Moon she deserves this friendship because she adds value to it. This could be completely unintended, though.

Honestly this is why sympitizing with abusers is bad. Abuse victims irl recieve comments like "Oh but he was Nice to me!" "Oh but hes such a kind guy he couldnt mean that! Think about how he feels about it!" Honestly, the only dragon I found he's not toxic to is Whiteout. Now, I haven't read much of DarkStalker yet, since I'm still trying to finish The Poison Jungle, but from what I've decided to read, he's been pretty nice to her. I honestly find it nice that he isn't toxic to everyone, or else that wouldn't turnt out as good got him. But I can get why he's not toxic to her. Your reason and...well, she's his younger sibling. It's basically what I call 'Younger sibling love syndrome'. You see, with most things, older siblings are more loving to younger siblings. Of course, I can't specify this myself, since I have no siblings.

When I randomly came across this guy on the villain wiki I was confused because he wanted the best possible future, wanted to help a friend reach their full potential, was friends with the main characters, but he also wanted to destroy a species
If the friend they were talking about was Fathom, then Darkstalker wanted him to reach full potential in the worst way possible. Enchanting his childhood friend/lover to be a wooden carving believing that she was a “problem” in Fathom’s life, try to force Fathom into using his magic again knowing well that he’s traumatized by what happened with his grandfather, hell he was even planning on marrying Fathom off to a NightWing to make him “happy” without Indigo. I could go on, but I think I’ve said enough. Darkstalker was a horrible friend to his so-called “friends”, and I will stand by that forever.

I don't understand people who think Darkstalker isn't a villan. He killed at LEAST 14 dragons. (Arctic, glacier and 12 unnamed icewings) He also tried to commit a genocide....
That and casted a spell to force others to like him or be chill with his decisions, cast a plague to a whole race (or tribe) over something most dragons aren’t even alive anymore in current day…. And yet people still defend him
I never sympathized with Darkstalker, when I read his book (which I read before the second series) I remember specifically being excited to see this character just unravel and I was not disappointed, I remember distinctly feeling bad for everyone accept him until I learned he actually woke up in the second arc, then I felt a little bad. Admittedly I might be a bit biased because I actually really like Arctic and believe he deserved better than what he got but I digress.
Which is why I dont know why many try to claim he did nothing wrong. Yes he was abuse by his father, the queen his mother should have done better to protect him and scold him when the situation call it but in the end all those decisions that he took what his and his all alone. He try to wipe out the Icewings, hurt anyone who oppose him and literally the moment he find out another animus he was going to either kill it or make it a prisoner even mentioning wanting to experiment on them. Yes, I know it wasn't wise for Tui to force him to change but the problem is that Darkstalker was never going to willingly to change. Maybe Tui should have find another way to deal with him but fans should at least realize was never going to agree to change into another dragon.
3:07 I always viewed this as he wasn’t at the point of murder yet. Sure he wanted the positive outcomes of murdering indigo but his subconscious might of told him that murder was wrong so he of course finds a work around by putting Indigo in the statue without killing just so no one could say he had murdered her probably it was the label itself instead of the outcome that he didn’t like.
After reading yellow fangs secret and legends: DarkStalker you can really tell the these books have very similar plot but in different povs one from the mother of the evil son and one from the evil son. And it almost made me be able to think on each of their stories.

Even though he fits the typical “arrogant villain with power who thinks they’re doing the right thing because revenge” trope, I like that the books showed him with actual sorrow for loss and how the arrangement of his actions can snowball into something negative, even with good intentions. Sounds like real life, tbh. He’s enthusiastic and intelligent with pain, sorrow, and had good intentions and was able to relate to others to manipulate, which might be why some may not think he’s evil. (I mean if using powers to force others to like you and waging war on another race over something from thousands of years ago aren’t already red flags, I don’t know what is.)
I read the legends, and just went SCREW THIS LORE- I was upset at the time don't question me, so I made an AU where Foeslayer and Arctic basically manage to talk the queens out of the war... and arctic opens up to Darkstalker- OMG AHH I am animating this it's final I will explain more in replies if people want
None of that sounds realistic. How would Foeslayer and Artic convince the Queens, specifically Artic's mother, to stop fighting? Why would the Queens listen? Why should Artic, in his mind, open up to Darkstalker?

I adore darkstalker- but as a villain. People in this fandom need to stop excusing what he did. How about we don’t try to excuse characters who literally committed murder and tried to kill an entire nation because of something they did thousands of years ago. Not to mention manipulation and some other quirky things. Love darkstalker- but you better not excuse him.

Darkstalker is a wonderfully complex and scarily believable villain - an arrogant, entitled, and manipulative person who uses his power to dominate others "for their own good" and uses the wrongs done against him to justify cruelty to innocent third parties. Darkstalker loved other dragons, yes - but he loved them as possessions, not as their own people, and never as much as he loved his own ego. I've known too many abusers like that. Not monsters who enjoy being evil, but people who would be shocked, horrified, and indignant if you told them their behavior is in fact abusive. And true to form, Darkstalker desperately, falsely, insisted he was a good dragon up until his final moments. But his intentions don't change reality, and his actions were evil. I always thought this was the obvious point of his story. Apparently not. At times, I wonder if he was written a little TOO well, if so many people in real life fell for his tactics. But that's also why I appreciate him. People need to see evil that isn't a caricature and learn how to recognize it.
And that's not even mentioning the interaction he had with clear sight after his little petrified display ... Or the thing with winter... Or trying to enchant fathom to get rid of his morals

I pretty sure that’s supposed to be him actually healing from his trauma because he has a support System (as in his friends) not darkstalker useing a spell. i think darkstalker is a cool and thought out villian certainly very interesting reminds me a but of hawkfrost from the warriors series i dont know why he killed arctic i have not read the whole of arc 2 or the legend edition but i still know about peacemaker
I say he's a fool, because he wasn't even able to use his powers well, and he ended up dying despite being able to predict, he wasn't able to realize his mistakes or the contradictions between his wishes and his actions. But this is a losing discussion for anyone, because everyone wants to see him as evil and nothing more.
I agree with the overall point that Darkstalker is abusive and his actions shouldn't be excused, but I disagree with you saying that he didn't truly believe he was making Clearsight happy and was just completely consciously doing it out of selfish motives - the whole point of his character is that he isn't just manipulating everyone else and laughing internally about how he has them under his thumb, but deceiving himself as well into thinking his actions are good and for selfish reasons, and that makes him a lot more interesting than just a "haha I am manipulating everyone for my selfish goals, such fools" villain, and taking that away from him and saying he doesn't believe any of those excuses takes away the message that people can be abusive while not thinking of themselves as abusive and not letting themselves acknowledge their real motivations. Similarly, based on how he acted towards Turtle (imprisoning him and taking his powers while telling himself how good and noble a dragon he was for not killing him), I imagine the real reason he didn't just kill Indigo is so he could tell himself he wasn't being so bad, he had mercy and spared her life despite her trying to kill him for his powers when they first met, and since he could always bring her back later with a few spells to make her forget what he did to her, it wasn't really the same as killing, he could still see himself as a good dragon.
Saying Darkstalker isn’t evil or abusive is like saying the color red isn’t red. I’m genuinely surprised his fans think he’s a good guy somehow. I’m sure some of it might come from personal stuff for a lot of people, but still, *Darkstalker is not good.*

The people that go around saying things like how nice and charming Darkstalker is aren’t wrong. That’s the whole point of his character, is it not, charming to draw others in, therefore making it a struggle to get out.
Darkstalker is the BEST villain in all of Wings of Fire, and possibly in any form of media ever, and this is why I think that. First of all, he wasn’t trying to be evil. He just wanted the best for Pyrrhia. Second of all, he is VERY convincing and manipulative. Moon genuinely thought he wasn’t evil. Even Clearsight, who could see EVERY future didn’t think he was evil until the very end. She STILL loved him when she knew how evil he was. Sure, she wore that earring that prevented her from seeing the bad futures but even after she took it off she didn’t want to think Darkstalker was evil. The fandom cannot see that he is evil, AT ALL. I won’t lie, even I though his actions were justified for a while. Third, his end was VERY ironic. People hate on it because it went against the main lesson that Arc 2 was teaching and turned him into a different character. They blame Peacemaker because he used to be Darkstalker, but it wasn’t his fault at all. Also, the Arc didn’t teach you that Animus magic was bad, it just taught you that you should be careful with it. When Kinkajou turned him into Peacemaker, she was completely justified. People also say that it affected his free will, but it didn’t. He doesn’t remember being Darkstalker at all. And anyway, Darkstalker was going to completely destroy any form of free will that other dragons could ever have, so wouldn’t it be better if HIS free will was affected? People just don’t like to think he was evil, because of how much they loved him. Sorry for the long comment, it’s just that Darkstalker’s character is VERY complicated, and in fact, it’s probably dozens of times more complicated than I made it out to be!
No one is actually evil, it's there decisions. Like maybe for example: a robber steals money from a bank, but gives it to homeless ppl. Good or evil? None. Bc there is no evil! I honestly just think that DarkStalker is just misunderstood by many.

He doesn’t respect Clearsight’s actual thoughts on him and his magic so he broke her promise about not using his powers on her, he doesn’t like the fact that Fathom is being guarded away from his powers so he tries to manipulate him onto using them when Fathom feels a little more safer without doing any magic after experiencing trauma from the Royal Massacre. I disagree strongly. my pov: he's just traumatized. i mean, did you hear how his father treated him? his parents were always fighting, his sister was freaky, his father was horrible to him, the queen tried to take control him, and so fourth. i feel much symathy toward him, and i would never trash talk him. Qibli and Turtle got it right. The magic does not make you lose your soul or turn evil; It's what you do with it. He literally made a talisman to dispell the myth and when that was burned, he made like 3 different things to protect his soul. It didn't work because the magic isn't the problem, its just his actions
i'm pretty sure it was even stated by indigo at the end of darkstalker: legends that it wasn't the magic that made them evil, but what they did with it

I think the sheer number of Darkstalker sympathisers is a symptom of a bigger issue, people seem to have this idea that the only kind of villain are the pure evil ones, and anyone else is just a poor wittle baby who’s totally fine bc they had “good intentions” and/or were wronged by who they want to hurt. Mapleshade suffers from the same issue. Villains can be complex - and imo they should be - but they’re still villains for a reason.
Darkstalker's complexity not only stems from the fact that his inspiration comes from Tui's actual ex, but he also has a lot, in my opinion, and I mean A LOT of similarities to soemone like Adolf Hitler in terms of behavior, backstory and psychology. People being Darkstalker sympathisers would be akin to people supporting Hitler, and that is not moral at all. Sure Darkstalker was abused in his childhood, experienced war (didn't really fight but the war between NightWings and IceWings fueled his hatred for the IceWings, added with his own father's abuse), wanted to try his best for his friends keeping them safe and all. I am a strong believer of behaviorism and as such everything experienced by him in his life built him as he is today. That doesn't make him good or worthy of pity, he's still a villain. However not only does it mark him as a bad person, but also sheds light on the issues of the world around him. For me, dealing with someone bad isn't solely punishing them and either leave them be after or destroy them (psychologically or physically), but it's also finding the issues in society and fixing them. A villain isn't born, it's built by the world around them. People sympathizing for villains do see that but instead they are passive to the issues of society, and will see in those villains someone relatable... perhaps themselves becoming villains. The WoF community has many very dangerous controversies like this, and something has to be done to combat those...

You know who Darkstalker reminds me of? Jason Dean from Heathers. They both have some comedic lines, are manipulative to their love interests, are adored and defended by their fanbase & they both have parental issues.
The only difference is that Darkstalker is a 2000 year old dragon with magical abilities while Jason Dean is just some high schooler.

I love darkstalkers villan ark. Its so much more of a realistic villan. I do wish we could get a book that explains more on albatrosses ark and how he was driven insain. The book assumes that its the animus magic that makes you lose you're soul but I think its much deeper then that!

I was listening to the jade mountain academy audio book of Talons of Power and I realized he also was blame shifting when he says to what he thinks is Clearsight “You should have to help fix this. Do you see what you did when you betrayed me? It’s all gone - our tribe’s power, our kingdom. Our beautiful future. You did this to our whole tribe, not just to me.” when he was the reason the nightwings where afraid of him

After I read Darkstalker a couple months ago, (thank you, person from school who let me borrow theirs), I was able to better understand what happened to Darkstalker to make him the way he is. The thing is, from HATCHING, he could tell his mother was so much better than his father, who loved Whiteout better than him. Arctic only loved Whiteout because she was more IceWing than DS, which is said in the books. One thing I’d like to know furthermore is- why? Whiteout still is part NightWing, so why bother favoring her over his son? Speaking of Whiteout, I notice that DS is actually nicer to Whiteout, although it was horrible, the way he had her watch him tear their father apart. Literally.
It was also stated that Whiteout was favored because it was clear she was part IceWing, unlike with Darkstalker.

FINALLY SOMEONE SAID IT! There are literally so many major red flags in Darkstalker's character; he actively *chose* not to help Whiteout hatch out of her egg and attain moonlight powers because he didn't want competition, he manipulates his closest friends and justifies his actions by claiming it's for a "wonderful future," even if they had to be dragged into it kicking and screaming, and during the Jade Mountain Arc, he lied to Moon and the others every chance he got. Not to mention Clearsight, who *loved him,* said she was terrified of him and told Listener the future of Darkstalker *killing her* was a huge possibility. All that on top of Darkstalker initially planning to hurt or even kill Turtle before Turtle casted his invisibility spell, and Stomemover sensing Darkstalker overtaking his talons: "My talons are gone. These are monsters crawling out of the earth and they will rend the sky and crush the wings of small dragons and I can't let them I won't I won't I won't let them be used again!"
Darkstalker doesn't see other dragons as dragons. He is a dangerous narcissist who never would have realized the error in his ways because he believed he did nothing wrong. Killing his father? Justified; after all, Arctic is *soo* much worse. Using his spells to tamper with the minds of others? He just wanted to make them *happy!*
Everyone shits on Darkness of Dragons for it's ending, but I truly think it was the most realistic way to defeat him. He was so inflated by his ego all it took was one strawberry.

Honestly it's hard for me to reread the Jade Mountain Ark because seeing his abuse and knowing how many people excuse it makes me feel sick. As a manipulator I can confirm gaslighting and love bombing is manipulation. You say you're confused about why Darkstalker would let Moon hear the "and you can help me". I think we can boil that down to a tactic of grooming, in this case emotional grooming. "You can help me" in tandem with jokes about how pathetic Moon is, tells Moon that Darkstalker sees her potential. He appeals to her good nature and her desire to have friends. "You can help me" tells Moon she deserves this friendship because she adds value to it.

Honestly, the only dragon I found he's not toxic to is Whiteout. Now, I haven't read much of DarkStalker yet, since I'm still trying to finish The Poison Jungle, but from what I've decided to read, he's been pretty nice to her. I honestly find it nice that he isn't toxic to everyone, or else that wouldn't turnt out as good got him. But I can get why he's not toxic to her. Your reason and...well, she's his younger sibling. It's basically what I call 'Younger sibling love syndrome'. You see, with most things, older siblings are more loving to younger siblings. Of course, I can't specify this myself, since I have no siblings.
As an older sibling, I might have that... I let my brother off with too much slack (such as that one time he threw a slice of cheese at my face)

When I randomly came across this guy on the villain wiki I was confused because he wanted the best possible future, wanted to help a friend reach their full potential, was friends with the main characters, but he also wanted to destroy a species
If the friend they were talking about was Fathom, then Darkstalker wanted him to reach full potential in the worst way possible. Enchanting his childhood friend/lover to be a wooden carving believing that she was a “problem” in Fathom’s life, try to force Fathom into using his magic again knowing well that he’s traumatized by what happened with his grandfather, hell he was even planning on marrying Fathom off to a NightWing to make him “happy” without Indigo.
I could go on, but I think I’ve said enough. Darkstalker was a horrible friend to his so-called “friends”, and I will stand by that forever.

I never sympathized with Darkstalker, when I read his book (which I read before the second series) I remember specifically being excited to see this character just unravel and I was not disappointed, I remember distinctly feeling bad for everyone accept him until I learned he actually woke up in the second arc, then I felt a little bad. Admittedly I might be a bit biased because I actually really like Arctic and believe he deserved better than what he got but I digress.
Which is why I dont know why many try to claim he did nothing wrong. Yes he was abuse by his father, the queen his mother should have done better to protect him and scold him when the situation call it but in the end all those decisions that he took what his and his all alone.
He try to wipe out the Icewings, hurt anyone who oppose him and literally the moment he find out another animus he was going to either kill it or make it a prisoner even mentioning wanting to experiment on them.

3:07 I always viewed this as he wasn’t at the point of murder yet. Sure he wanted the positive outcomes of murdering indigo but his subconscious might of told him that murder was wrong so he of course finds a work around by putting Indigo in the statue without killing just so no one could say he had murdered her probably it was the label itself instead of the outcome that he didn’t like.
After reading yellow fangs secret and legends: DarkStalker you can really tell the these books have very similar plot but in different povs one from the mother of the evil son and one from the evil son. And it almost made me be able to think on each of their stories.

Even though he fits the typical “arrogant villain with power who thinks they’re doing the right thing because revenge” trope, I like that the books showed him with actual sorrow for loss and how the arrangement of his actions can snowball into something negative, even with good intentions. Sounds like real life, tbh. He’s enthusiastic and intelligent with pain, sorrow, and had good intentions and was able to relate to others to manipulate, which might be why some may not think he’s evil. (I mean if using powers to force others to like you and waging war on another race over something from thousands of years ago aren’t already red flags, I don’t know what is.)

I read the legends, and just went SCREW THIS LORE- I was upset at the time don't question me, so I made an AU where Foeslayer and Arctic basically manage to talk the queens out of the war... and arctic opens up to Darkstalker- OMG AHH I am animating this it's final I will explain more in replies if people want
None of that sounds realistic. How would Foeslayer and Artic convince the Queens, specifically Artic's mother, to stop fighting? Why would the Queens listen? Why should Artic, in his mind, open up to Darkstalker?

I adore darkstalker- but as a villain. People in this fandom need to stop excusing what he did. How about we don’t try to excuse characters who literally committed murder and tried to kill an entire nation because of something they did thousands of years ago. Not to mention manipulation and some other quirky things. Love darkstalker- but you better not excuse him.
holy shit I just realized Darkstalker is like my father, he uses me and my siblings as tools to make himself look good and disowns us when we don't do our 'job'. Now looking at it more closely I can actually see a bit of myself in the wings of fire series a bit more.
Darkstalker is a wonderfully complex and scarily believable villain - an arrogant, entitled, and manipulative person who uses his power to dominate others "for their own good" and uses the wrongs done against him to justify cruelty to innocent third parties. Darkstalker loved other dragons, yes - but he loved them as possessions, not as their own people, and never as much as he loved his own ego.
I've known too many abusers like that. Not monsters who enjoy being evil, but people who would be shocked, horrified, and indignant if you told them their behavior is in fact abusive. And true to form, Darkstalker desperately, falsely, insisted he was a good dragon up until his final moments. But his intentions don't change reality, and his actions were evil.
I always thought this was the obvious point of his story. Apparently not. At times, I wonder if he was written a little TOO well, if so many people in real life fell for his tactics. But that's also why I appreciate him. People need to see evil that isn't a caricature and learn how to recognize it.

I pretty sure that’s supposed to be him actually healing from his trauma because he has a support System (as in his friends) not darkstalker useing a spell. I say he's a fool, because he wasn't even able to use his powers well, and he ended up dying despite being able to predict, he wasn't able to realize his mistakes or the contradictions between his wishes and his actions. But this is a losing discussion for anyone, because everyone wants to see him as evil and nothing more.

I agree with the overall point that Darkstalker is abusive and his actions shouldn't be excused, but I disagree with you saying that he didn't truly believe he was making Clearsight happy and was just completely consciously doing it out of selfish motives - the whole point of his character is that he isn't just manipulating everyone else and laughing internally about how he has them under his thumb, but deceiving himself as well into thinking his actions are good and for selfish reasons, and that makes him a lot more interesting than just a "haha I am manipulating everyone for my selfish goals, such fools" villain, and taking that away from him and saying he doesn't believe any of those excuses takes away the message that people can be abusive while not thinking of themselves as abusive and not letting themselves acknowledge their real motivations. Similarly, based on how he acted towards Turtle (imprisoning him and taking his powers while telling himself how good and noble a dragon he was for not killing him), I imagine the real reason he didn't just kill Indigo is so he could tell himself he wasn't being so bad, he had mercy and spared her life despite her trying to kill him for his powers when they first met, and since he could always bring her back later with a few spells to make her forget what he did to her, it wasn't really the same as killing, he could still see himself as a good dragon.

Saying Darkstalker isn’t evil or abusive is like saying the color red isn’t red. I’m genuinely surprised his fans think he’s a good guy somehow. I’m sure some of it might come from personal stuff for a lot of people, but still, *Darkstalker is not good.*

The people that go around saying things like how nice and charming Darkstalker is aren’t wrong. That’s the whole point of his character, is it not, charming to draw others in, therefore making it a struggle to get out.

Darkstalker is the BEST villain in all of Wings of Fire, and possibly in any form of media ever, and this is why I think that. First of all, he wasn’t trying to be evil. He just wanted the best for Pyrrhia. Second of all, he is VERY convincing and manipulative. Moon genuinely thought he wasn’t evil. Even Clearsight, who could see EVERY future didn’t think he was evil until the very end. She STILL loved him when she knew how evil he was. Sure, she wore that earring that prevented her from seeing the bad futures but even after she took it off she didn’t want to think Darkstalker was evil. The fandom cannot see that he is evil, AT ALL. I won’t lie, even I though his actions were justified for a while. Third, his end was VERY ironic. People hate on it because it went against the main lesson that Arc 2 was teaching and turned him into a different character. They blame Peacemaker because he used to be Darkstalker, but it wasn’t his fault at all. Also, the Arc didn’t teach you that Animus magic was bad, it just taught you that you should be careful with it. When Kinkajou turned him into Peacemaker, she was completely justified. People also say that it affected his free will, but it didn’t. He doesn’t remember being Darkstalker at all. And anyway, Darkstalker was going to completely destroy any form of free will that other dragons could ever have, so wouldn’t it be better if HIS free will was affected? People just don’t like to think he was evil, because of how much they loved him. Sorry for the long comment, it’s just that Darkstalker’s character is VERY complicated, and in fact, it’s probably dozens of times more complicated than I made it out to be!
No one is actually evil, it's there decisions. Like maybe for example: a robber steals money from a bank, but gives it to homeless ppl. Good or evil? None. Bc there is no evil! I honestly just think that DarkStalker is just misunderstood by many.

He doesn’t respect Clearsight’s actual thoughts on him and his magic so he broke her promise about not using his powers on her, he doesn’t like the fact that Fathom is being guarded away from his powers so he tries to manipulate him onto using them when Fathom feels a little more safer without doing any magic after experiencing trauma from the Royal Massacre. He was also kinda born evil?

Qibli and Turtle got it right. The magic does not make you lose your soul or turn evil; It's what you do with it. He literally made a talisman to dispell the myth and when that was burned, he made like 3 different things to protect his soul. It didn't work because the magic isn't the problem, its just his actions

@@Void_Fang I know this was 2 months ago but the book is titled “Darkstalker,” who is the main antagonist in the Jade Mountain Prophecy and pretty much in his own book as it came out after Book 9 or 8. He might’ve been a troubled child but he shouldn’t have treated other dragons how he did.
