Nothing is said about the Venture Pro being used for large game hunting . Last week, mine worked very well during an elk hunt. A nice sized scalpel with excellent edge retention. Thanks again Felix .
@@ChrisDraussen One 'grind' cannot be best at everything. Probably best to have both a keen edged knife and another edged tool for the heavier work. But if you can have only one, there's no beating a good knife.
@@ChrisDraussen If you are in an actual outdoor survival situation, you will need to hunt, fish and process what you hunt and fish for. I'm not that much into "bushcraft" . Primarily an outdoorsman and hunter. ATB
Our ancestors used sharp rocks to process game so I am sure a skilled hunter can manage with one knife. Probably more effective to use tools designed for specific tasks (skinning vs jointing are quite different and there are good tools to assist with each) but if you have just one knife and the skill and desire to use it go for it
Felix, I always LOVE watching your videos. I learn a lot and you seem to be a genuinely happy person, which makes me smile. Plus, I am impressed with your command of the English language. I think the word you were looking for to describe one aspect of the Beech bark was, "translucent" which is one aspect of transparency that you correctly described. I am grateful that your channel exists! Vielen dank!!!
Hi Felix! Thanks for the update! It is good to hear this from Victorinox, and demonstrates their integrity and willingness to LISTEN to their customers! Please pass this on to those who are in charge of the project, as we all look forward expectantly for what is going to come. It would be good to take the required time to do the job thoroughly, as they do everything to do with all their products, rather than a rush job just for the publicity. With you there to advise I'm sure things will be done well and properly. Best of wishes to the design and production team! Cheers Felix!
I can't believe that I learned so much from this video, Felix! I'm so impressed. * blow using 2 ways * birch & beech * rub the fire steel across the blade, an not the other way around Thank you! You should let Victorinox know that the new sheath should be usable as a blow tube. I would not want them to lose that feature.
The bow drill pivot on the handle incorporates an idea from one of Felix’s previous videos. Using the sheath as a blower is another great idea. That ought to work with any fixed-blade knife sheath that has a hole in the tip.
Always enjoy your videos. I really think the venture pro is the perfect knife for a Boy Scout. We all know you can get by with less but you put together a great kit. I can’t imagine anything I’ve seen about these knives happening to me. In all my over 35 years I’ve never found a reason to baton hard wood. I just wanted to thank you for sharing your knowledge and always being so happy. I remember my grandmother saying a smile is very contagious. It’s a great thing to spread.
🙂 Stay sharp & Peace, Stephan 🙂
Very nice explanation of the good reasons for the way you use your knife blade and ferro rod in combination. I also like the sheath use mentioned here. I dont own any of the Victorinox models but drilling a hole in my current knife sheath has achieved the same useful function. Cheers.

Yes, I know Fatwood directly from the branch. I don't tend to come across birch in the Jura. But beech bark is new to me. I'll have to give it a try. Yes, I hope the knife comes back soon. But I'm happy to wait for an improvement.
Good video Mr. Immler as always. Do you know if Victorinox will ever offer the Venture Pro with a Carbon blade only. It would make a good backup for the ferro rod in case it was accidentally broken. One could use a piece of steel or flint to make sparks too.
I have come to the conclusion that the best blade geometry for a camp/bushcraft knife of this size is full flat grind, like this Venture knife. True scandi grind is great, but the edge is a bit weak unless you use a super steel, which ironically takes a very long time to resharpen on scandi, because you have to remove steel from the entire grind! Even Morakniv puts a secondary micro bevel on their knives. If you have to use a micro bevel anyway, it’s better to have a full flat ground blade, because it works much better for food prep and other slicing tasks.
