My dad has this condition. He began by having a funny turn & it was passed off as ear problem. His walking started to get worse. Gait & shuffle. He then had cognitive problems also behaviour probs. He gradually got worse & had CT scan. He then had funny turn & fell. Broke his ankle. Stayed in hospital for a week. On return he couldn't walk without help or move from bed to chair. He had to have hoisted body lifts . He is now bed bound. Parkinson's tablets doesnt help just made him sleepy. He also has swallowing problems.

I got sick with Lyme disease in 2011 at the age of 37 but wasn't diagnosed until 2013 so never received adequate treatment. It's a spirochete bacteria, very similar to syphilis. I had an MRI 2 days ago that had been scheduled for 3 weeks. I was falling asleep in magnet. My dr called my 2 hours after I got home and told me to go to the ER, that I was having a stroke. The MRI also showed an old infarct in the white matter I can remember likely happened in August 2021. I started having problems with personality changes that August and my gait, movement in January. It got really dark this year from pain and depression/personality/cognitive stuff and with a pre existing diagnosis of bipolar with psychotic features while having pseudobulbar effect and uncontrollable crying with a hysterectomy thrown in the mix this year, at the young age of 48, I've had a bitch of a time advocating for myself and getting taken seriously.

Hey y'all thanks for the replies. I had an incident on the anniversary of the symptoms of the beginning of the occlusion of the artery of my second stroke eight days ago. I have and mri and mra and eeg tomorrow. I was really sleepy after 3 double shots of espresso and my hand went numb and curled up in a ball. I've been feeling not so hot since, but I've been taking care. Thanks for your good thoughts.

I would like to know if dopaminergic / Parkinson treatment is required for vascular parkinsonism!

Great information! My dad has this and also vascular dementia. Both have progressed. Wondering is there any treatment for vascular Parkinson’s? Our nuerologist told us there is not. He’s been getting taking Parkinson’s medication but that hasn’t helped (which our dr said it might not) but we gave it a shot.

Same with my husband. Meds didn’t help. They only made him extremely sleepy and decreased appetite.

No, it doesn’t. That’s how they know if it is parkinson or the syndrome.

It's resistant to the conventional Parkinson levodopa treatment. Maybe other dopaminergic agonist drugs may help with symptoms a bit but not curative
