    Great vid. Clear explanation and the whiteboard helps a lot. Would enjoy learning about more dialects, or to go a little more in-depth with them. Enjoyed your mention of it, but left me wanting more. Subscribed.

      @@acborgia1344, actually there are three forms to pronounce it. Those 2 mentioned ( the video and how you pronounce it) and the other one is like adding a /h/ between the /n/ and /y/. These last 2 are common in the South, especially in Texas.

    Where you from? The people of Louisiana pronounce it two different ways. We say it
    Loo zi Ana as in Louis not Louise.

    In New Orleans, the pronunciation /norleens/ caught on, but only for the locals, I guess.

    • @SpeechModification
      @SpeechModification  Год назад +1

      Interesting - do they say "NORleens" or "norLEENS?" Or long on both syllables?

      @iced_javascript1831 Год назад

      @@SpeechModification I'm a born and raised local and none of us say New Oleens....except for when we are talking about Orleans Parish, in that case it is Orleeeeenz Parish. When it comes to the city your teaching is correct! We say Noo Orlynz or even N'Orlynz. This person is confused or was a tourists and heard tour guides saying it that way or ppl in the French Quarter saying it that way. Mostly to entertaine and appease tourists. 😁

      No, we do not say Orleenz. Unless we are talking about Orleans Parish. The city pronunciation is correct in the way SpeechModification says it 🙂

      @@iced_javascript1831 But when I wrote /norleens/ what I meant was actualy what you wrote, "N'orlynz". It's just transcribed differently.

  • @blaketankersley2449

    This may be correct to some technical degree but I have always thought the correct name of a place derives from those that inhabit it. You put too much emphasis on the second syllable of Louisiana. You say New Or Lins but the people that live there say New Orleens or New Or lee ans.
    This is just wrong

  • @freddieagnir3138

      I live in Louisiana and I have never heard anyone ever pronounce it like that. She is pronouncing pretty well seeing how I used to live 5 minutes away from downtown New Orleans and now currently live across the causeway and still go downtown often. The way your saying natives pronounce it is completely wrong. Btw not trying to be an A hole it’s just a pet peeve of mine.
