As a New Yorker this bill is stupid. If a cop is going to lie they're going to lie on that report. Cops already required to wear body camera. I am sure a video is 10x better than this stupid report.

@@kej7187 NYPD doesn't have 15,000 people to that everyday It doesn't work like that. You can't write a cop's report.
@rookforce1 We spend more on the NYPD, then most countries spend on their military. There are usually 2 officers together. 1 guy can't talk to a person, while the other writes the report. If we're spending more than $5 billion a year, these guys should be able to multi-task.
Just bring back Stop and Frisk

Many people experience emotional anxiety when cops ask them questions. This bill would have made the cops think twice before they stop someone on the street.

Emotional anxiety because of questions?? lol limiting police discretion will have unintended consequences for public safety. You need to find a balance; criminals will always be criminals and take advantage of the law, NO MATTER WHAT. Sure some cops should not have this job and that is unfortunate, but don't generalize, many decent cops deal with so much crap from bad people. If you're not doing anything wrong and know how to act like a civilized person, you'll normally have no issues, especially with body cams.

The errors of your last comment:
- You obviously do not know the impact being stopped arbitrarily by a cop can have on people, up to and including their deaths. If cops stop someone who's having a bad day, or who mistrusts law enforcement, intrusive questioning can result in anger on the part of the person who was stopped. This will cause the cops to escalate and restrain the individual they arbitrarily stopped.
If the paperwork inherent in this proposal makes cops less likely to stop someone who's "walking while Black," then, good!
- The new proposal does not limit police discretion; it makes them accountable for every person they stop.
- Your comment about criminals is obvious and unnecessary.
- Who are decent cops? Even though a cop may be squeaky-clean himself, if he knows of bad behavior of other cops and doesn't report it, he becomes a bad cop.
Cops reporting on cops has been shown to be detrimental to the reporting cop. Bad cops rely on the "blue line" of silence, and enforce it. Hence, the "Boys' Club" reference.
- "Act like a civilized person." And, who are you to be standardizing "civilized" behavior? "Civilized" is quite subjective. What parameters fit into your comfort zone of civilization?
Your use of the term makes me quite suspicious.
The policy should only apply when police stop someone or impede their progress, suspecting them of a crime.
Someone does not want transparency.
So the cops will have their faces in their phone making all thsse notes that puts them and the public in danger!! How stupid!!!

This is a great idea if you want to make policing massively more expensive. It would lead to having fewer cops, which is exactly the point. Just another way to defund the police.
