Looks 100 times better. @DarrenTang knows his stuff. Also shows his character and willingness to help. I’ve been trying to learn this release for years now. Thank you both for the information.
I’ve been working on my release for 2 years. Finally getting it but it’s been much more challenging than I anticipated. Practice, practice and get some coaching really helped me. RUclips is an excellent resource
Good stuff Mike and Darren! The simplicity of the explanation helps a ton. I've also heard the flicking water and the snap action as a "Spider-Man" release as if you are using your web-shooters. Keep up the great work!
I love how technical bowling has become because you can release the bowling ball rather traditional, thumbless or two-handed (to a certain degree) in several different ways what a lot of people fail to realize.
Very good tips. One thing I try to explain to people and visualize is like your skipping a rock across the pond, almost throw the ball into the lane and flick it off your hand. Increases speed and revs. Good stuff man, keep on grinding...
I haven’t been bowling long enough to give advice but it was easy to notice how cupped your hand stayed throughout the swing. EJ Tacket and Marshall Kent are smaller than you but they generate tremendous power by really letting a relaxed pendulum do the work. Good luck!
Looking pretty good Michael !! .. I have a young friend who I bowl with, he is a REALLY good bowler. I learn a lot from him. He has an incredible rev-rate, especially for a 17 year old skinny kid. He does something that I have tried to do but is really hard for me. It is exactly what Darren talks about but MUCH MUCH more. His wrist actually goes backwards at the top and like Darren says, he whips it, like cracking a whip. The way he does it is so smooth though, it's amazing. He is normally a 2 handed bowler, but he's just about as good at 1 handed. I estimate his 1 handed rev-rate is probably over 500 rpm and I will bet that he has surpassed 600 at times. It's fun to watch him, he makes it look so easy. These damn kids these days, they're just good at everything. I really believe Darren is absolutely spot on with the advice he is giving, and he should be, he's super talented and has been around this game for a very long time. I would absolutely trust anything Darren tells me about bowling. He and his brother are both outstanding bowlers and extremely knowledgeable, especially when it comes to the modern game of bowling. I am super happy you are using this valuable information and applying it so well. Keep it up!!! .. I am tying to do the same, but I'm just an old guy who can't do these things as well as I used to, still trying though 😁
Great to see! I've been working on changing several things in my game over the last 4 or 5 months. Stay patient and consistent and you're going to see crazy improvement!
Looking good there, my guy! Once that muscle memory kicks in and you're not thinking about it, they'll be no stopping you!👍 I've practiced that wrist pendulum release for mouths, and now it's a natural relaxed arm/wrist swing for me! (Muscle memory has kicked in!) The rev rate and hitting power have increased big time for me!
Never met Darren, seems like a very nice guy. Needed him back when I bowled in the beer league. Probably would have told me to cut my beer consumption to bowl better. Beer actually relaxed me more.
Here's a couple things that have really improved my rev rate, accuracy, and feel: Having two thumbs, one for the start of the night and one for if/when it swells. For me, having an interchangeable thumb that falls onto my thumb and fits almost exactly that doesn't't make me squeeze or pressure to hold onto the ball fixed a lot of issues that I was having in my swing. I actually believe it was the root of a lot of inconsistencies that I was facing throughout league nights during the week. A mental image that helped me was thinking about creating positive and tight rotation with only the upper half of my palm and up through my fingers (one handed bowler). For a while I was trying to create heavy rev rate with my entire wrist, and I think that negatively impacted the way my thumb/hand came out of the ball, and also added more pressure to my hand/swing. The last thing I've learned recently from probably the best bowler within 4-5 hours of where I'm from, is a lot of timing and speed inconsistencies can come from your third step if you have a 5 step approach. I was unaware that this was sort of your power step and where a lot of your energy gets transferred into the bottom of the swing. I slowed my first two steps down a lot and still could not get my ball speed down when I needed to until this was brought up to me, and it slowed my ball speed down almost instantly. Hope this helps someone!
First Edit: Second. Foiled by Joey Reyna once again. Second edit: after watching the video, I have to say, it seems like those few tips from Darren changed more than just his swing. His footwork looks a little quicker and his form looks wayy more comfortable and repeatable. I can confidently say that 220 avg bowler will soon be 250 avg bowler.
Even the tempo of your swing looks different and better - like the ball is doing more of the work as opposed to your arms and body. Awesome job! With practice and time it will come together as you have the athleticism to make the changes and keep them going.
Looking better for sure. It’s so weird how bad habits just compile and before you know it so much has changed and everything feels off. I’m dealing w this right now. I’ve gotten so bad that I didn’t even realize that I started taking 7 steps from 5 and the list goes on and on. Need to fix it asap, but I have to dedicate the time to do it.
It's his timing. He's putting too much h thought into release. If you watch carefully his swing is late with his slide. The easiest correction is to push away a little downward which will lessen the backswing height. This why he (and so many other bowlers) don't average what they would like... timing!
Looking a lot better. Always felt you were throwing the ball, now you look much more like you're understanding the pendulum effect and ball looked to be doing a lot more of the work. Keep it up. One of my tips for tournaments would be never ever get down. Even when the bowling is going terrible. Stay confident. Keep a smile and make some other part of the game what it's about. Make the spare game the happy part or just. Keep a positive attitude. I can't remember the times I've tanked because I got in the wrong mood.
Your release looks much better! Your biggest fight now (as it always has been) is squaring up your hips and shoulders at the line. You tend to throw across your body while dropping your right shoulder. That too looks better than in times past.
IMO squaring at the line is old tech, if his hips and shoulders are open towards his target it’s easier to get the ball where you want it to go. I may be wrong.
Nice! Darren's tips kind of goes in line with what I commented a couple of weeks ago. To me, a free swing will allow you to do anything to the ball. Like you said in the beginning of this video, your arm and wrist were very tense on the "befores". Keep practicing!!
@@220vlogs Sorry for being a little vague, but yes, when your arm swing is "clinched" and tight, it tends to freeze and you really can't do what you want at release. A nice fluent, effortless swing is the key to me. Your hand and wrist can do anything from there. Just don't let go of the ball in your backswing and hit Forrest! A little tighter thumbhole may help you be more fluent as well. A tight arm swing was always one of my biggest faults when struggling. Good luck and hope the best to you!
You can hear the audible pop of your thumb coming out. Now I'm not sure if that is something you have always done, but it sounds pronounced and it really look like you are more relaxed at release. The Second part that Darren said about driving your hips and not your head is something I have never heard.
My rev rate went from 250 to 450 instantly. I just had to take my thumb out. :) nah for real this is awesome! Keep on it so old habits don’t creep back in
Looks a whole lot smoother. I think the only thing I see is that the release is just a hair early. Or maybe it’s just me. Either way good progress!! Last night I shot 266 / 678. Making progress myself.
I was going to say that about your lower half getting a lot more quiet. Your trail leg is staying down and your balance is way better. Just give it more time and you will be the 230 average bowler. 😁
Looks way better, still leaning a bit forward. Time to implement the getting your hips under you. Then change the channel to 240 Avg bowler😅. JK. Change is hard, keep up the good work.
Looks much better than few months back. Congrats. Tang’s 3rd tip could be improved a bit though. The water off your hand thing is the wip motion. Isolate the motion with the no step drill. This guy here explains it well. Good luck. ruclips.net/video/9BR6Si4oh5g/видео.htmlsi=WkHMQz2eATusQ1Gb
Not the biggest fan of the channel in the past, but this is fantastic content. Easy to appreciate someone putting the work in. Darren is legit, one of the best releases on tour….SHAME on them for going to the 2 handed dark side. Shame.
Why? If you want to be the best, you can't limit yourself. Walter Ray Williams, one of the best of all time bowls both ways depending on what gives him the best opportunity for high scores.
@ Obviously that comment was tongue in cheek. On a personal level, I find 1 handed bowler much more fun to watch. I feel 2 handed lacks nuance…if that makes sense. But yeah, at the end of the day, these guys get paid to win tournaments and knock down pins in the most efficient way…so who am I to throw shade.
@@michaeldufton360 I just got back to bowling after 20 years so it's hard to tell who is joking. Some really do hate no thumb. I'm still trying to figure out the disdain for urethane! I bowled thumb in and thumb out in the 1990s. With the new rule about holes in the ball, I went to all one hand thumb out and enjoying bowling against the young guys.
Youre thinking way to much about the release. Your problem is timing, generally your swing is late with your approach and forced. Watch your videos closely and youll see it. The release does not require all of this thought. I`ve had 400 rpm on a ball before it was a thing and before either Daren or you were born :). Timing is the most critical aspect of delivering a shot an a target line without a ton of correction. In my opinion thats why the shots here are all over the place. I recommend either pushing the ball off slightly earlier or a bit more downward (this will be easier because your mind-body are programmed to what you currently do) which will take just a bit off backswing height and get the release through the ball better in time with the slide.
@6:49 does that guy not know bowling etiquette? why is he sweeping so close while you're standing on the approach with ball in hand, must be a worker who doesn't bowl. I assume you're paying for lane time or per game, either way paying. just rude
@84-Po-209 standing at the foul lime sweeping walking towards you. It's not that deep, but it's basic etiquette especially from a worker... the guys clearly recording a video aswell. Just could've waited 5 seconds swept went on way

So awesome of you to help 220 like that
Super cool of you Darren!
This is the best I've ever seen your swing. Bravo, man.
I’ve been working on my release for 2 years. Finally getting it but it’s been much more challenging than I anticipated. Practice, practice and get some coaching really helped me. RUclips is an excellent resource
Showcases the value of coaching in so many different areas of life. Good stuff!
The differences are so subtle, the benefit of working with someone that has a good eye for detail.
Power comes from the hips in golf as well as the martial arts and many other things. Getting the whip earlier at the bottom of the swing is money😁
Thanks to Darren Tang for sharing the finer points of the back swing and release. Nice job showing your progress !
Your form is looking way better and much more clean than before!
I really like Darren's bowling and youtube. He seems like a really cool guy which draws me into a channel more.
Your journey of continuously improving your game is so inspiring. I gotta hit the lanes and get better also!
That’s great! Let’s all try to help people who needs it and help grow the sport.

You should calculate your rev rate after the change!
I don’t have a big backswing. Can this still be applied or do I need to work on getting a bigger backswing?
Wow, your swing and release looks great, so smooth now!
This is really great. Working on my own release hiccups and this improved my form also.
Shout outs to both you and Darren.
Awesome 👍😎. Thanks to you and Darren. I've got something special to work on
I feel like you're dropping the ball on some of those shots.
I was thinking the same thing maybe it’s the camera phone that he is using
It's his timing. He's putting too much h thought into release. If you watch carefully his swing is late with his slide. The easiest correction is to push away a little downward which will lessen the backswing height. This why he (and so many other bowlers) don't average what they would like... timing!

Your release is way cleaner now. There is no stopping at the top of your swing anymore which messes up your timing completely.
It looks like we're getting there, I've already perfected mine with a double pendulum release using my hips.
Thats pretty much what ive bren working on this year however digging more underneath at the top which be then is coming down.

I think I get what you meant now, “free swing” is kind of vague as you can cup your wrist but still have your arm swing freely
@@220vlogs Sorry for being a little vague, but yes, when your arm swing is "clinched" and tight, it tends to freeze and you really can't do what you want at release. 😞 that’s ok. But yeah man see you again soon! You’ve been killin it lately
much smoother looking. 👍
Wish you would have rolled some bright multicolor balls. It would help us see the rev increase
What tripod and mount is that? Way more compact than mine is.
Looks the same. Although you have been up the back of the ball real nice lately
Damn! now I wanna go and try those tips right now
So is the tucked pinky your “A” game hand position
Looks pretty dang good to me!
It was about time
looks way cleaner but are you half thumbing?
Hey 220. You think the two pendulum motion and the whip or flicking thing works for two handers
No idea 😂
i try using my hips alot but sometime my body lean backwards causing my upper body bend away from the pin. causing me to pull the ball left sometimes
Yea that looks way cleaner!
I'd rate your swing/release a C+ before & a B+ or A after his advice
220 is gonna start whippig it like brandon bohn
I'm the exact same way, did you lose a lot of revs?
Nice gonna try that
6:26 Always remember:
The lanes are slippery. Do not cross the foul line… or else you die!
Great job tang i need your help can i send you a video of me so you can start my success to be a better bowler at least in leagues.
Huge difference
lower back swing definitely would help more
