Omg 26 minute video. This took FOREVER to edit, so do me favor and if you enjoyed it SMASH THAT LYKE B00T0N please and thank you :). What should I do for the next one (which fingers crossed, won't take a year to make this time)?
I think your Bullet Strat is pretty decked out already, so maybe one of the very cheap Epiphones? (not the Les Paul SL though, 60 Cycle Hum's already done it and there isn't much that can be done on it). Or I guess you could do a Rob Scallon and reach out to that dude who makes guitar out of NES's and design 1 with ridiculous specs.
Hey, your placement worked. Didn’t know about your strap locks before this video. Bought a set as soon as I saw them. Great design. I’ve been between Dunlop and Schaller for 30 years and never really liked either one. Dunlop works great, looks awful. Schaller looks better, wears out quickly. It appears you’ve found the balance between form and function in that space.
Asa Haines actually I think they do. You can buy any kind of pickup on amazon for under £10 (around $11US) and someone is blind to sell cheap plastic nuts somewhere
I agree. Apart from the bad wiring, the stock pickup had much more bite. The fluence has a much more prominent bass response. I feel like the EMG may have been a better choice.

I've got one of these guitars. Mine must have been a good example because it plays well. I replaced the pickup with an old DiMarzio Super Distortion and it sounds excellent - much better than that horribly muddy Fluence
That noise actually becomes an issue when doing some heavy chugging and they are somewhat pretty sharp on clean tone, but yes, it wasn't that bad to be honest...

I'm absolutely in love with this project but I have only one complaint... You definitely should've went hunting for a bright pink strap to match that bright pink Strat!! (Seriously though awesome job and I'm loving the extra long video!)
Everyone that has tought about purchasing this guitar has had this is mind. I wanted to get my hands on one and do the exact same upgrades, except for putting a Seymour Duncan JB in there, but finding one of these is quite rare. I just love one pickup guitars, they have so much personality with so little specs. That Strat is a hell of a monster now, congrats Hunter! MORE HIGH INTEGRITY PROJECTS PLEASE!
I did a similar project back in ‘07 when Target was dumping those things for $99. I liked it because of the single pickup and single volume combo which is really hard to find. It was the black version and I had a custom tortoise shell pick guard made for it that was a mirror image of the round side of the original. I eventually sold it to my brother. He painted it orange and still plays it in his prog rock band. It gets lots of attention.
Sorry, I liked the passive pick up the most... The Fluence sounds way too muffled and bassy. :( The passive just needed some work on the eletric part and the noise would be gone.
@Noitu Lover wow you sounded like a douche... What if both modes have that issue? The easiest way to end up with a good sound, wether practicing or recording is to start with one. Aside from then fact that there's only so much you can do with EQ and effects/modeling a shit source, it's way easier to just do it right in the first place. Can apply to pickups, pre&power amps, cabinets or moving around the room to find a good sounding spot. Not trying to be a douche myself because honestly the way something sounds is at least somewhat in the ear of the beholder. Even things like un/concious bias or whatever you call it when someone wants something to sound good because they've put it on a pedestal their whole life or just dumped a ton of money on it lol
The stock sounds like both the mid and low ranges were scooped out. The fishman sounds strongest in the mid range which is why it's a bit stuffy but certainly has a superior frequency range represented.

Biggest difference between the pickups as I saw it was the noise and interference on the stock pickup, especially under high gain. Voice 2 was way better - it captured the liveliness of the stock passive humbucker while eliminating all of the noise. That Evertune demo was pretty great.
