Awesome informative video Heath, love how much content and honesty you give back to the community. Thanks, and yes please keep producing content for us 👍
lol! I don't know if the clocks would have even cost $10, but I guess we're overlooking the value of the blanking panel in the S model dash. It may have been quite exciting for some young drivers to operate a vehicle with a cross-hair looking thing on the dash... an adrenaline-rich experience for someone who grew up prior to the invention of military video games.
Fantastic content Heath deadset credit to you mate well done.. How neat is that set up mate wow, I should've gone speedhut guages instead of Autometer they are so neat Heath!!
Excellent video. I want to put in 3 Smiths gauges in where the ashtray used to sit. I have the gauges, but w/o the wiring looms. We need to do a little cutting, but can’t find anyone to do the job. The search goes on.
Certainly making things hard for yourself there! Haha. I know one guy who put three gauges in the centre of his dash but he made the centre section of the fascia out of billet aluminium to get the job done. A bit beyond your average craftsman! But basically anything can be done if you care about it enough. scontent.fsyd3-2.fna.fbcdn.net/v/t1.6435-9/168565005_2866936723625621_7704048160827669710_n.jpg?_nc_cat=101&ccb=1-7&_nc_sid=5f2048&_nc_ohc=iVAVnxk4hCUQ7kNvgEmxBXf&_nc_ht=scontent.fsyd3-2.fna&oh=00_AYD4Ad0pbmYI1rV4S5e8m67x3aSfCH0n4CGegQoICpoHPw&oe=6689CDA6
Hi Heath. Love your work, particularly the effort in maintaining original dash looks. I’m looking for someone willing to take on a Mk1, 69 Ford Capri GT dash. Are you interested? Problem I foresee is 40mm gauge diameter. Unsure Speedhut make them. Car is being converted to EV but trying to maintain original feel as much as possible
Hi David, thanks for the kind words. SpeedHut's smallest size is 2-1/16" so nominally about 49mm. If you can hide the bezels strategically, the visible gauge is probably only about 40mm so it may be suitable. But I'm afraid I'm not looking to take on that kind of project currently.
HI Heath im glad i came across dash build, have a couple of uc torana projects and the dash upgrade is great, i have watched the video so im confident i can do it myself .can you send me a price two conversion kits, great work mate 👍
Hi Heath....I have an LX four door currently in for paint. I'm now thinking about the interior and love what you've done. There is plenty for tartan around but all large squares, unlike yours which I really like. Where our will do you get the tartan from...? Any help would be appreciated.
Hey mate, I'm afraid to say that mine is original GM-H Fashion Pack... New Old Stock from many decades ago, so I wouldn't hold my breath re: finding any. But I would recommend looking at what SMS Auto Fabrics in America offer. Their website is poor but they do have an impressive range. smsautofabrics.com/collections/plaid?page=1
Hi Heath. Your a Legend Mate for all your research, development and now sharing of these awesome parts. Such a great informative video too! You sell the speedo with SL/R logo if req heh? Look forward to ordering from you next year. Cheers
G'day Michael, thanks for the kind words and sorry for the late reply mate! I tried to convey as much as I could and it seems to be working given the enthusiastic comments & e-mails I've been getting. Can absolutely do one with an SL/R logo mate, just give me as much notice as you can as I may not have anything suitable in stock at the time.
@nickjenness6046 Hey Nick, the price is a bit over $3k if I do the lot for you. Send me an email if you are keen and we can discuss the options. Email address is in video description.
big problem with the Speedo being GPS is that it is illegal in NSW at least to have... and engineers wont pass them - not sure if the one you run does it but a lot of them at key on has "acquiring satellites" ... so they see that and instant fail.... have had many customers had to fit a normal cluster back in to get their car registered ... otherwise they are a great looking thing
@@jasonadams3260 In my opinion it could be done but I've not seen it offered by anyone. The current situation is... the GPS speedo works beautifully for the most part. But if you care about satisfying the road authorities, the electronic input is the alternative that may suit better. It does of course need more wiring and a bit of extra calibration effort. GPS is more popular by a mile.
Hi Jason, I haven't done any other models of cars. But an LC/LJ already has round holes which makes the job far more simple than this model which is obviously tricky.
Only these digital clusters that look (pretty much) like SLR gauges. If you want some front-lit gauges that perform like they're 50 years old, you can buy a $2k used SLR cluster and get it fixed up. It'll be a similar price to one of these dashes but without the nice features and accuracy, haha!
G'day Stephen, yes I can do for about $3k, or people can save some money by putting it together themselves. Send me an e-mail if interested (details in the video description).
Was just me but did i hear you bagging out standard S cluster for having idiot lights then expouse the merits of having idiot lights in new cluster as you didn't want to be trying to look at guage reading 😂😂😂 but great upgrade you've created !
The difference is that you can set the parameters to suit your own settings. I used to run Murphy gauges in my rally car and whilst I could look at the gauges, I set limits and if reached the setting a light would come on the dash, then I would look at the indications on the gauge. Much better to look at the track and not at the gauges in general@@Hezath
G'day mate. The price is about $3k for a change-over or cheaper if you buy the parts and put it together yourself. Shoot me an e-mail if you are interested in going ahead (details in the video description)
I've driven my Torana up to Sydney and driven it around the city for a few days earlier this year. It is still the one that I would choose. But if you care about it momentarily dropping out on occasion, just buy the electronic input version of the same (looking) gauge (part no. R4 S-11).
@@Hezath I ended up buying the speed sensor and put it onto my tailshaft and in NSW it's illegal to have a GPS Speedo unless it has a speed sensor input aka wheel, tailshaft or gearbox ...

Awesome work, think I’ll be sending mine over for an upgrade
Good work bro. Ex trany lad here. S pac. 😢. Just thinking that missing clock would have saved 10 bucks a car. Pretty smart engineering from gmh
