As an alternative to the courtyard, you can float your first bug laterally away from the redbox before placing the redbox on the shelf. That would make it stick out from the house clearing the eaves and rakes.
I love it ❤️ ooo you could even take this idea 1 step further & float a Paltech coffee table off of a Gourmet Butcher Block 🤩 then you have an entire workspace away from the wall that should work just about anywhere 😀
Question: do we have to do it off of a courtyard, or could we use, say, our main house/ a grand harvest house or some other building with appropriate height? I don’t want a courtyard on my main plot because they take up too much space, and putting one down for this would be a huge undertaking. 😓
Oh 100% - I actually need to re record this. 😅 but I actually would suggest to use the front or back of the harvest house. It's "merge" function will make the curve much nicer ❤️

At this current time the only ways to make a "Floating Shelf" would be: ● to it in a doorway(or anywhere else that has a grid you can build on.)
