Some info for ppl that don't understand how the fight works, it is as follows: Alatreon starts in either fire or ice mode (always fire in the special assignment, and there are 2 different event quests with Alatreon starting in either fire or ice that you can see beforehand). By default, his form changes go Fire - Dragon - Nova - Ice - Dragon - Nova - ... Repeat. His horns are only breakable in Dragon form, however when you break a horn in Dragon form, it cancels his switch to the opposing element. Thus, the optimal strategy would be Fire - Dragon (break) - Nova - Fire - Dragon (break) - Nova - Fire - Dragon - Nova - Ice... (or the other way around with only Ice and Dragon). I think the Fire route is better though, as you get more damage from Aquashot. In each Fire/Ice - Dragon phase, there are 2 elemental damage thresholds, each one weakening his nova. With no threshold, the nova is basically unsurvivable. With 1 threshold, if you have a health booster and some astera jerky or max potions, you will survive easily. With 2 thresholds, the nova is easily survivable with a single mega potion as long as you started at full hp. The thresholds also reset after each nova, and you get a knockdown every time you reach one. In my experience we never managed to get to get the second threshold, but playing Aquashot with 2 competent DB players and a support sns we were pretty consistent at getting 1.
Plunderplade palarang works for loot, flinchshot into wall breaks horn easier w/ a chance to drop azure dragonshpire, even if the quest fails. You still get loot. Just dont abandon quest.

I managed to solo him with an ice sword & shield. I tried doing it with the Xeno Neqiina lbg but that thing did barely any damage. Took me 4 hours, but success! And now, before I craft anything, I gotta wait for people (and you) to figure out how to best utilize the new armor set. :3

Actually the most challenging quest in the game, and I'm absolutely love it. It truly makes me use brainpower and I love every gimmick. My friend got reaaaaally pissed and bashed the entire quest for being bs (Escaton and not being able to farcaster sucks though, Ill be fair) but none of that stopped my excitement or optimism for completing this event solo, I needed this nostalgia. The MH3 music when you slay him literally brought a tear to my eye too because I started in 3rd gen and it brought back great memories. What a day/night to be a MH fan.

i tried a slightly tweaked version of his xeno lbg build (triple elements), was able to solo him in 28 mins
