Average Victorian / Edwardian: "Ooh, these new things called bicycles are neat."
      H. G. Wells: "Please excuse me while I casually invent giant exo-skeleton armour, AI programable drone-machines, laser-beams, flying jet machines, nerve-gas, clone reproduction and 3D printing all in this one little 1898 book." (Drops pen, walks off stage.)

You realize this movie was made in 1953, right? You seem to be making fun of the effects and acting. In my opinion, this is the best version. Even better then the Tom Cruise 2005 version.

My father was a young boy in New York when Orson Wells did his War of the Worlds broadcast. He wasn't just reading a book, he adapted the book as a radio play. Even though it was advertised as a play, many people tuned in and thought it was a news broadcast. My dad told me that people were running through the streets screaming. They thought it was the end of the world. There was a TV movie made about it called "The Night That Panicked America" from 1975. It's worth checking out.

      Katie here.
Oh no, a channel that has lasted 4 months that is two people improving on the fly is not as good as a prestige show with a budget and a writing team? Who knew!!
Look, I know your intention was to hurt our feelings but we want to make good shit. If you actually want to help us make good shit instead of just talking out of your ass, then please waste your breath and give us critique. If you read our comments you’ll notice we respond to nearly every one and we listen when people say things are good or bad and try to improve based on that. Especially since this is our first old movie. We’re going to be doing more of these, anything to consider in the future would actually be valuable to know.
      So please, waste your breath.

I agree 100% with you fullmoon plus like too many young people today, these two geniuses inject unnecessary foul language every now and then which means I cannot watch this with my grandkids. The special effects available in 1953 were limited but I think the producers and directors did a very good job with what they had with this favorably rated movie and I see no reason for these two reactors to laugh so much AT this classic. Reactions to old movies should always respect the limitations and mores and circumstances of the time period. I agree that the condescending laughter and comments are not cool at all. However as these two so-called comedians claim they want ideas for improving their reactions, I would simply suggest they watch the other reactions posted here on RUclips to this same movie from those not trying to ridicule the movie-such as the one posted about two months ago by R Knights.

There is a spin off 1988 T.V. series of this movie that lasted two seasons that picks up 35 years after the events seen here. Would love to see some more of the 50's sci-fi greats pop up on the channel. "Forbidden Planet" (1956), "The Day The Earth Stood Still" (1951), "Thing From Another World" (1951), "When Worlds Collide" (1951). Fun fact: The actors that played Dr. Forrester and Silvia both made cameos at the very end of the 2005 Steven Spielberg version as the grandparents of the kids.

Actually it was an acetylene torch that produced the sparky flames you saw which they filmed over the front head of the Martian war machine. The 3 prop war machines were made of copper which is what gave them their beautiful shine and luster. Unfortunately they were salvaged in a copper drive for the boy scouts years later so they didn't survive. They were fairly intricate with electrical interior lighting and were strung with up to 20 wires to give them the look of floating through the air. The 3 war machine props were about 3 feet wide and yes, they did make clear plastic blister domes that were used as prop shields for the Martian crafts.

My mum was watching Quatermass and the pit and she sat me on a dining chair in the middle of the living room and made me watch it to the end. Then she turned off the tv and made me sit there while she read her book for an hour. I was begging her to let me go to bed in the end. 😂 I never asked to stay up late again...lol. What was I going to say, oh, that's it. You may want to check out Quatermass and the pit, or any of the QCU (Quatermass Cinematic Universe) for that matter. Just a thought. I forgive you due to your youth. Herewith some education. "Synesthesia is a phenomenon that causes sensory crossovers, such as tasting colors or feeling sounds. Some people describe it as having “wires crossed” in their brain because it activates two or more senses when there's only a reason for one sense to activate."
Most folks have never heard of synesthesia, a very real condition. Not a stretch to envision aliens having it as part of their natural sensory/neural makeup.
