We had patio furniture in our extra bedroom. It was our “Chill” room. It was complete with a forest mural and patio decor.

I think the patio furniture looks nice and works well for an office or sunroom. I also think it must be handy because it isn’t heavy and doesn’t take up a ton of space like a traditional couch does.
My heart breaks for your loss of family!!! But, I am so impressed that you can still declutter even after reducing your items to 8 suit cases!!! So inspiring!!!

I started my decluttering journey (30 ++ years old of items) 3/6 months after my father passed away.... it's been 1 year ++++ n still going.... Still hard to let go things... hope to finish soon but it's take longer time when u do it alone....

Thanks Marcia, honestly when we were doing the BIG declutter to move overseas I had to stop filming because it was just too much to pour out in front of a camera - I’m happy to have reached a comfortable place now and help others who struggle as well. ✨🤗✨

I am thoroughly enjoying these videos as I look for inspiration on my new retirement and subsequent decluttering path.
I am person whose childhood was “normal” on the surface but was marred by lies and narcissism underneath. Because of that history, I have modified your profound statement to read:
“Focus on having the life you want NOT wanting the life (childhood) you NEVER had”.
I have surrounded myself with possessions (and plants and other living things and natural objects) that now I am slowly but surely getting rid of.

Decluttering memories r the most hardest and it always take me foreverr..and i often get a comment frm my husband saying why i took so long to clean it up..while he on the other part also got attached with all the items n he dont want to even think bout it,put aside n keep everything still..finally someone understand my feeling..new subscriber here😍

Thank you so much for your story. I too lost both my parents 5 and 6 years ago much too young and have two small children who will never know them. I am an only child that has had to be responsible for their entire lives worth of their belongings. I struggle with my compulsive spending trying to fill a void that will never be full. I realized about a year ago enough was enough and am now on my journey to become whatever my minimalism will be to me.... I still fall down at times but every day is a new day and I just have to put one foot in front of the other. Thank you for sharing your story. I understand even though our stories are different. It’s comforting to see I am not the only one in this situation, because at times it can be very lonely. I know there are so many others out there. You are inspiring. Your home and family are beautiful.❤️
We sound very similar. I’m an only child also and dreamed of so many things that are not to be. And the clutter is definitely a reflection of my aching heart.
We do sound similar. I am so sorry for your loss. I wish you all the best with your path. I am still learning how to live with the loss as I will never get over it but will learn to live with it and decluttering has definitely helped me with that. It helps me realize what I have keep is what brings back the best memories of the loved ones I have lost. All the rest was just stuff. Nothing more nothing less. My compulsive purchasing has also cut way back because I never want to be buried again and feel that guilt. I also don’t want my children who are only 2 and 4 to ever have to make tough decisions. I want them to know everything I have kept was intentional, has a purpose and is something I love. No wondering why or what. Take care and best wishes. ❤️

It’s lovely that you have carefully selected and displayed things that are special to you and let the rest go. As they say if everything is important nothing is important. Also I am sorry you lost your parents so young and they did t get to meet your children..... It makes it much more sentimental when letting stuff go.

Is that Anne of Green Gables I saw? My Grade 5 teacher went on holidays somewhere and decided to return with new books. Although they eventually ended up in the library, she picked books specifically for everyone in the class and that was the book she picked for me 😊.

Both of my parents passed away in early 2019, within 6 weeks and then in December 2019 by sisters husband died. My two sisters and I are still working through the clutter 2 years later....it is heavy work but also rewarding to feel through it all

I feel that I have avoided getting rid of the sentimental stuff that would actually have me bawling. I’ve purged so much including sentimental, but I think I have not gone deep enough. 😢
It was emotional seeing these beloved things get displayed after so many years - I’m so sad my parents never got to meet my kids or see my home. 😞 Sentimental was hard but it was also very rewarding - cathartic you could say!

I was watching this and felt your pain. When you picked up the label printer I giggled as I bought one a few months ago to label my camera gear, and it’s still sealed up unused. I also hoard many things, as I get scared to part with them. I have so many clothes, many of which are my dads rugby shirts and jumpers which I keep because he only passed away 2 years ago and I don’t want them to go because when I see them, I see him. I also have a lot of office equipment after creating a semi professional studio in my spare room - as my studio upgraded, I’d buy more things and forget what I had, often buying the same thing without realising I had it. I literally have so many products that I ‘think’ I’ll need, but know I likely won’t use them and know I could sell many for close to what I paid as they’re barely used or in boxes, but I’m scared of selling them on eBay type sites in case I’m scammed, so I just hoard in boxes. I often start to declutter and I get overwhelmed by how much stuff I have, so give up. I’ll try and focus on one area at a time, but still need to find a way to rehome or resell in a way that I won’t get that fear of being screwed around by buyers.
I had my dad’s football and firefighter gear for ages, until I was finally ready to let it go. ❤️🩹 I never once had an issue with eBay but my sister had a scammer her first FB marketplace experience, which I talk about here if you want to see: ruclips.net/video/c-0zL0JXj1k/видео.html . I think 99% of the time you get honest and amazing people on eBay! That was my experience - hugs!

Thank you for posting your videos. Sentimental hoarding is a very appropriate term for what I’ve started doing in the 5 years since I lost my Dad. Your journey has helped me put things in perspective and let THINGS go. As I can more space back in my home as I declutter, I am becoming more and more comfortable. Beautiful video 💖 a tip that I have developed over my journey to avoid “de clutter regret” is take really lovely pictures of bulky sentimental items, and create a photo album with personal notes on each item, I did this with my daughters first outfit, craft items and things that I could donate for other children to love and use. It gives you an opportunity to reminisce without owning a huge amount of clutter 🥰

I have started my declutter journey way before Marie Kondo was famous, over the years, I learnt to declutter regularly, otherwise, things have their ways to stay 😨 especially when my husband does not declutter much.

There are binders with special pocket sleeves for coins. It might be a good way to store and display the coins even if you will try to sell them.

Yes I did see them! You've inspired me with the billy bookcase. We currently have a 4x4 kallax in the living room which serves the purpose of keeping ornaments and our books out of their reach, and some toys at the bottom but I've been looking forward to losing it for some time. I say the same that they store too much and quite often a good part of it is empty. In a year or two when the little one is 4 or 5, I will be replacing it. I think the tiny amount of ornaments I have kep though will go on a wall shelf!
Dr Seuss books... We now have the classic collection, oh the places you will go, the grinch, Horton collection, wish for a fish, no place like space... I think that's the lot, for now 😂 I recommend Adrian Edmondson's version of the audiobooks for cat in the hat, CITH comes back and green eggs and ham. They are brill, and on youtube 😊
