You'll want to set a manual white balance off of either the sand, the palm of your hand, or something else 'neutral' in color. You'll want to set a new white balance for every 10ft change in depth, or when switching between using lights or not. There are a lot of lens and port combinations, please feel free to email us directly at sales@backscatter.com and we will be happy to discuss all the configurations.
The GH5 certainly seems to have better ambient light white balance with no filter as compared to the current Sony cameras. Give us a call or send us an email and we'll be happy to get into more detail with you, thanks!
Hi, sorry for the rookie question - when you say ambient only light white balance, does that simply mean that it does a good job at white balancing off a white card without video lights on?
Hi Kevin, thanks for pointing that out. Official images of the new trigger were not available at time of filming, so the flash trigger shown is really just shown as an example.
Kevin Hanson This is my first camera and i'm a total newb. I imagine i want it for videography? I don't want the camera to seek focus when i follow a fish or something else. :) I think it would be good enough for me but it was to much money to take the risk.
The only time I've ever used continuous auto focus is with macro and that is rare. For wide angle the depth of field is so wide you don't need it. So for me the continuous auto focus issues are not a factor for underwater videography.
Kevin Hanson I see. I though AFC was something you wanted for video. What if the subject is moving closer or futher away? As i said i am a beginner and can not speak with experience yet. Will have to try and see what works for me. Hopefully i get to start this week. :)
With wide angle the depth of field is so large that almost everything will be in focus. I usually set my focus on my fin. Then everything that is 3 feet away or further will be in focus, whether moving or not. Now, if something moves with in the three feet range then all I do is hit the back focus button (I have the back button set to AFS-ON). For macro, I guess a moving nudibranch might benefit from continuous auto focus. I'll have to try it someday.
How to SET wb underwater?
What lenses do u use?
Yes I can read and see the pictures of lenses on video. But I need to know excactly lense/port.

I use the 14-42mm lens, i currently have it set up so I can control the zoom, is it possible to switch it to the focus?
This may be a stupid question but will this housing unit work with a gh3?
Unfortunately not, as the camera bodies are different enough to prohibit cross-compatibility.
looks pretty good for low light. you found white balance to be very easy?
Yes, the white balance was simple to execute and effective.
Backscatter well then maybe I found my new camera. Sony struggles a little bit making hard to do light and no light on same dive?

The Nauticam flash trigger shown does not fit in the GH5 housing.

Price about 5000$?
Would probably get gh5 with this house if it wasnt for the bad reviews on gh5 autofocus. I went for a6500 with nauticam house.
Mickey Törnroth just curious, but why do you need continuous auto focus? Macro?
