I used to volunteer at the Woodford Folk Festival and had to pick up arriving artists from the airport and shuttle them over to the festival site, about an hour away. One day I had to pick up this bloke and nobody else. He sat in the back of the van and played his grandfathers banjo for the entire trip. That was the highlight of that years festival for me.
Adorably funny song! I knew nothing about Blind Boy Paxton until I happened to catch him in "American Epic Sessions" on PBS last month (unfortunately that full video has now expired 😢). My reaction was "who is this guy, I gotta check him out." He's AMAZING! I felt as though I'd stepped back about a century!!
He was at the Iridium in NYC and closed with this song. I thought I would never stop laughing. He was awesome and played at least six different instruments including the harmonica (with no hands for a while!). Don't miss a chance to see him.
This song has progressed so well over the years, though I liked the lyrics he took out. I found Paxton years back when I stumbled upon him playing with another band, look up those gems! The singer he was with had such a beautiful voice. Bill Murray Experience, later known as Jessy Carolina and The Hot Mess.
Do you remember which lyrics he took out? I’ve just seen him this weekend and this was my fave song!! I’m interested what the original song was like :)
"I was standin' on the corner, just as lonesome as I can be, when a very ugly man walked up and tied his horse to me." - Charlie Stivers, as sung by Susan Hertel at Charlie's funeral.
[Verse 1] I’m one of those guys Who let’s his eyes go rolling every now and then Check out 'dem girls from toes to curls And I’d love to find myself a ten My looks survived on fours and fives When I go on out for fun But last night in desperation I approached a minus one [Chorus] And she said no An ugly woman told me no Nothing make you feel quite as low As when an ugly woman tells you no Terrible! [Verse 2] I flashed my smile, did a little while We was talking face to face I found out that she was alone and free So I made just a slight reference over to my place I saw her frown, I slowed down I was charming you know I was ever so cool But when I reached in for the kill That bear said “Rrr! I’m nobody’s fool!” [Chorus] Oh she said no An ugly woman told me no Nothing make you feel quite as low As when an ugly woman tells you no [Verse 3] I was crushed inside I swallowed my pride But I wasn’t about to quit I showed her some little scar That I got in some little war And she softened up a teensy weensy eensy little bit I probed, I searched I mentioned church And I’m clearly Jewish And in fact I almost cried But when I put in my request She said “Request denied.” Ugly woman Terrible, terrible! My parting shot was: “I’ve only got about two weeks or less to live” You owe it to your country And it’s always better to give She looked at me I was gone for [?] She said, as the poor gal turned and go “Look here boy on a scale from one to ten Your an eight and ain’t got a chance to show.” She told me no How could she do it? An ugly woman told me no You can put that girl’s face in some dough And make gorilla cookies [Chorus] She said no An ugly woman told me no Nothing make you feel quite as low As when an ugly woman tells you no
Oh no, I think you should read this article: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Autism. I'm pretty sure that this is a developmental disorder that you have, and the first step you need to take now is reading that article and understanding your own limitations.

[Verse 1]
I’m one of those guys
Who let’s his eyes go rolling every now and then
Check out 'dem girls from toes to curls
And I’d love to find myself a ten
My looks survived on fours and fives
When I go on out for fun
But last night in desperation
I approached a minus one
[Chorus]
And she said no
An ugly woman told me no
Nothing make you feel quite as low
As when an ugly woman tells you no
Terrible!
[Verse 2]
I flashed my smile, did a little while
We was talking face to face
I found out that she was alone and free
So I made just a slight reference over to my place
I saw her frown, I slowed down
I was charming you know I was ever so cool
But when I reached in for the kill
That bear said
“Rrr! I’m nobody’s fool!”
[Chorus]
Oh she said no
An ugly woman told me no
Nothing make you feel quite as low
As when an ugly woman tells you no
[Verse 3]
I was crushed inside
I swallowed my pride
But I wasn’t about to quit
I showed her some little scar
That I got in some little war
And she softened up a teensy weensy eensy little bit
I probed, I searched
I mentioned church
And I’m clearly Jewish
And in fact I almost cried
But when I put in my request
She said “Request denied.”
Ugly woman
Terrible, terrible!
My parting shot was:
“I’ve only got about two weeks or less to live”
You owe it to your country
And it’s always better to give
She looked at me
I was gone for [?]
She said, as the poor gal turned and go
“Look here boy on a scale from one to ten
Your an eight and ain’t got a chance to show.”
She told me no
How could she do it?
An ugly woman told me no
You can put that girl’s face in some dough
And make gorilla cookies
[Chorus]
She said no
An ugly woman told me no
Nothing make you feel quite as low
As when an ugly woman tells you no
Request denied!
6 women said no
His complaint might have easily been remedied by a big margarita. Coulda been he was too cheap.
I'm like a little offended but there is no way this won't make you grin and want to laugh aloud
when your boyfriend shows you this song
Awful, but so sublime.
He and Adam Sandler need to work together ASAP! lol
Go back to grade school first. Adam is NOT in that league
sometimes people don't want to have sex, no matter how "out of her league" you are.
oh no i think you missed the point it's just a little funny song :-)
Yes but, not in this song.
Oh no, I think you should read this article: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Autism. I'm pretty sure that this is a developmental disorder that you have, and the first step you need to take now is reading that article and understanding your own limitations.
Some might even call this this 'textbook' definition of a pretentious comment.
Which has nothing to do with this song
