before the 70s
"She said she was a Magic Mama, And she could throw a mean Tarot" good pick, be careful, at the rate you're doing Zappa reactions you could be thru the good stuff in three or four years. Frank's first album "Freak Out" Came out in 66, he wrote stuff for other people before that and wrote the music for two movies (The World's Greatest Sinner and Run Home Slow). He was also in bands starting in high school in the fifties. For a side of Frank you wouldn't have thought existed, react to his song "Anything" (It's a short song). Camarillo is a city in the greater Los Angeles area. Someone's getting laid in this song. That's about it.
1. I think of this as one of his more uncharacteristically simple and accessible tracks - if they weren't hypersensitive about the lyrics it could have been played on the UK's infamous Radio 2.
2. Are you referring to the clip of his last major TV interview - the "I don't care if I'm remembered" one - or his very last snippet of interview footage, the one where he really looks and sounds unwell, whilst talking about Nikolas Slonimsky?
3. For the record, Frank somehow managed a Top 10 hit album in America with Apostrophe (1974), a Top 10 hit album in Britain with Hot Rats (1970), a Number 1 hit single in Norway and Germany (in both cases it was Bobby Brown Goes Down!)...and he played Wembley several times. And technically he did play Madison Square Garden - just not the arena (instead he was in that relatively small theatre on the site, then known as the Felt Forum).
4. This was Zappa's relatively straightforward pop phase, good but not his best. If you go back to his earlier albums, you'll see what a masterful composer he was.
I can respect the talent even if I dont really like the product. Yeah no 12 year old should really listen to Frank Zappa ... it's definitely not a PG product.

@@Austinreactss Don't even look into it. Zappa did not take himself seriously at all. Though his skillset was unmatched for it's time. Zappa is far from pretentious.
