  • It’s the Microsoft Surface Pro 5 and it looks nearly identical to the last version. Same ports, in exactly the same places, even the same physical dimensions. In fact the only way we can tell this is the new Surface Pro is by the more discrete vents. We have a feeling this teardown is going to give us a little deja vu. But we can’t be sure until we dig in, so let’s teardown down Microsoft’s Surface Pro 5.

    Hey Microsoft! It's not a competition to see who can make the least repairable device possible!

  • @masingha9666
    @masingha9666 4 года назад +11

    I have a Surface Pro 5 (1796). After 15 months, the SSD Harddrive stopped working. It would only boot to the BIOS and didn't load Windows.
    After doing some research online, we found out that lots of other people had the same problem and there s NO FIX for that. The SSD is NOT replaceable. It's good as garbage now.

    • @StandardNerd
      @StandardNerd 4 года назад +3

      YEP!!! that is my problem, and that is why I am researching "how to fix it". Turns out that Microsoft screwed us all. they take thousands of dollars for a system that lasts 16 months. Greatest waste of cash. We all know that the hard-drive is the first to die, why would they solder it to the board and make it impossible to replace.

    • @user-rk3qh9hw3e
      @user-rk3qh9hw3e 4 года назад +1

      Ha ha ha.... its possible. I dont know how to do it in yur region.... but we can do it...
      I have the same problem. just buy a new SSD bga chip and install it.
      it works.

    Thanks for tearing down the Surface Pro 5! I know it's technically called the "New Surface Pro," but I'm fairly sure most places will stick to calling it the 5, as there is no reason to drop the numbers.
    It's sad to see it's repairability is so low again, but it should be expected by this point I guess

    M$ really went on a war with Apple with this one.

      On war for which one uses more glue

    • @unlokia
      @unlokia 7 лет назад +1

      There's no "war" - people will choose iPad *every time* - the MINOR numbers are the vocal ones who can't wait to shout out how they chose the Surface... but iPad is ubiquitous and well established, iOS a dream, AppleCare absolutely unparalleled... Apple have ZERO "threat" from this schizophrenic compromised junk.

    • @SpeeDim
      @SpeeDim 7 лет назад +13

      unlokia Surface's competitor isn't iPad. It's the MacBook.

    • @lhk7006

      At least Apple didn't glue their displays.

    • @joeblub3126
      @joeblub3126 6 лет назад +6

      +unlokia the applecare argument is a joke, because even a cheap insurance is already better than apple care. My friend got 2 times a new phone with a relative cheap insurance. Apple care is useless in most cases of broken sreens and that is one of the most common cases. So just pay a bit more and you have "apple care plus" for everything.

    thanks for the tear down but ports choice is strange ... espeically with Eve V tablet out in the wild, such surface pro specs n trends are getting obsolete ... atleast one usb-c thunderbolt would have made it a little current gen Satya Nadella

      That was a decision made by Panos not Satya. Panos did say in a verge interview he had played with putting usb c in the device but the market research they did with users told him that the majority of their port needs are still usb a and not usb c

      There is a fan exactly there in the Core i7 model.

    • @audunskilbrei8279
      @audunskilbrei8279 7 лет назад

      The space is used for a fan on the i7 model. And I also think the LTE electronics are stored there on models with LTE. On the fanless models it's just wasted space. Which really irks me tbh. In my mind they could shift things around and increase the battery size or make space for a replaceable drive or something. But of course that would significantly complicate the manufacturing process...

    it's not called the 'Surface Pro 5' by Microsoft and therefore should not be called it here. Also, not covered was the fact that there is also an Intel i5 variety as well as an i7...which incidentally is the only model that has fans--meaning a different tear-down/assembly
