      Just be careful!
Some of the worst trouble I have in my garden (weeds, pests and diseases) came from plants that appeared to be "great value" at the time!
Now when I think of the time and energy spent trying to cope and deal with the problems the apparent "OKAY" plants brought with them, I know they turned out to be very expensive in the end.

@@OverdevestNurseries These were still good, we had to make room for the Christmas trees. I got a 125.00 weeping cherry tree AND a large three trunk crepe myrtle that was originally 145.00 for 20 bucks! But thanks for the words of caution.

Your description of it as looking like an immaculate show dog is absolutely spot on. It comes up so crispy and clean and remains that way throughout the season, never getting to that daggy or thatchy stage other grasses sometimes do. Top plant. I just split one I had in a pot for several years and put them in the ground. Just love it. I'm in Australia and in a shady spot, it's such a winner for the gardener with patience.

Hi, what’s the latin species name of the All Gold version? I am having hard time finding this in New Zealand under name All Gold. We only have names such as Aureola, Alboaurea etc. thank you.

Thanks for reaching out and thanks also, for watching.
There's only one species (Hakonechloa macra) and the selections you mention (like this one) are all from it.
      Hope this helps.

I am in zone 8B. My first attempt was a fail. I will try again. Tried sun/shade. I assuming the partial sun was too much for it. If I put it in deeper shade do you have any advice that might help?

    • @OverdevestNurseries
      @OverdevestNurseries  Год назад +2

Here in our Mid-Atlantic and Northeastern region, providing the soil conditions are decent, it does perfectly well in normal garden (sunny) conditions.
But with you, it seems partially shaded conditions is going to be best, plus really good soil preparation and planting conditions, and of course regular watering until your plant gets established.
Here's a link to one of our videos that might help you with that: ruclips.net/video/xybT3obydPw/видео.html
In this video, David is planting a golden leaved evergreen, but the principles and main practices are the same.
Of course, making sure you buy the very best, healthiest plants you can find is going to be important too, so visit your local garden centers, scope out the offerings and talk to the experts, and hopefully all of this will help you enjoy much better success.

That's the thing about gardening, no matter where I've lived over the years, there 's always been lots of wonderfully, interesting plants that I wished I could have grown! Too wet, too cold, too windy, not enough sun, drainage not good enough, too hot, too humid etc. etc. factors that make cultivating plants from the four corners of the world, so challenging.... and rewarding (when we manage to succeed)!
All we can do is research and try to replicate (and tweak) the cultural conditions needed...... Thankfully most of the time, we succeed, which enables us to enjoy lots of amazing selections.
But alas, there's always some (like the "forbidden fruit") that we cannot quite reach!
So if it's any consolation, as plant lovers that are challenged by choice things, you are not alone!
