Website Background Images: 4 Steps for Doing it Right

Background images for large website hero units are a beautiful design element. They can make any website, homepage or landing page look better. Plus, with free image resources like Unsplash (unsplash.com/) or Pexels (www.pexels.com/) it's never been easier to enrich your site with great imagery, without it costing an arm and a leg. BUT... we see many website builders make mistakes when choosing background images. They can slow down your site, make your text unreadable or be more distracting than anything else.
In this video, discover the simple rules for using background images for maximum effect.

I was literally tearing my hear out when I was doing a project for one of my client, wondering that what was wrong with the background image, it just didn't look right. After watching this video, I realized the people in the background were wearing highly contrasting clothes, black, white, blue, red etc. Now I have chosen a better image with two people wearing black and dark blue shades. Looks a whole lot better. Thanks!

Apple has a pretty easy image reduction tool as well, and you can make these changes in bulk to multiple images

Hanne, can you please tell us how to use a landing page like this while keeping our normal header and footer the same so that it’s consistent across the site? Is there an option to pull this in?
Did you mention, that you can use 3 different version of the image for Desktop, Tablet and Mobile? And which sizes would be optimal for Tablet or Mobile? Thank you!

I don’t know if the photos were free 4 years ago, coz when I try to download from the website it has all the watermark I can’t remove . I have to pay for the image .

Thanks for the great tutorial. One question - could I make a complete 3-5 page website just using Thrive Architect & WP2017 theme or is a Thrive Theme a better option. Are there any disadvantages to just using Architect for building a website?
No problem at all. I only use TA and TT to build all my clients website. :)

Yes you could. If it's only a few pages that's very doable!
I hated when you post a video that is intended to help but then you use a program we have to pay for to do what you are supposed to show us how to do. Do you work for Thrive Architect?
